SmartSurf^(ACE)transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy with mitomycin C enhancement after small incision lenticule extraction

Background:To evaluate predictability,stability,efficacy,and safety of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(TPRK)using smart pulse technology(SPT)(SmartSurface procedure)of Schwind Amaris with mitomycin C for correction of post small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)myopic residual refractive ***:This study is a prospective,non-comparative case series conducted at a private eye centre in Ismailia,Egypt,on eyes with post-SMILE myopic residual refractive errors because of undercorrection or suction loss(suction loss occurred after the posterior lenticular cut and the creation of side-cuts;redocking was attempted,and the treatment was completed in the same session with the same parameters)with myopia or myopic *** patients were followed up post-SMILE for six months before the SmartSurface procedure,and then they were followed up for one year after *** were performed using Amaris excimer laser at 500 *** main outcomes included refractive predictability,stability,efficacy,safety and any reported ***:This study included 68 eyes of 40 patients out of 1920 total eyes(3.5%)with post-SMILE technique myopic residual refractive *** average duration between the SMILE surgery and TPRK was 6.7±0.4 months(range 6 to 8 months).The mean refractive spherical equivalent(SE)was within±0.50 D of plano correction in 100%of the eyes at 12 months *** of<0.50 D was achieved in 100%of the *** mean of the residual SE error showed statistically significant improvement from preoperative−1.42±0.52 D to 0.23±0.10 D(P<0.0001).Uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA)(measured by Snellen’s chart and averaged in logMAR units)was improved significantly to 0.1±0.07(P<0.0001).UDVA was 0.2 logMAR or better in 100%of the eyes,0.1 logMAR or better in 91.2%of the eyes,and 0.0 logMAR in 20.6%of the *** distance visual acuity(CDVA)remained unchanged in 79.4%of eyes.14.7%of eyes gained one line of CDVA(Snellen).

FILTERING CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL PERIODIC RODS

Passive periodic structures exhibit unique dynamic characteristics that make the passive periodic structures act as mechanical filters for wave propagation. As a result, wave can propagate along the periodic structures only within specific frequency bands called the pass bands and wave propagation is completely blocked within other frequency bands called the “stop bands”. A theoretical method based on the transfer matrix formulation is developed in order to effectively investigate the influence of periodicity, variable geometry and material properties on the wave propagation characteristics of one-dimensional periodic rod. Several numerical examples are presented in order to illustrate their unique tunable filtering and localization characteristics. The experiments are conducted to verify the numerical predictions and to demonstrate the capability of the wavelet transform as a very powerful tool to uniquely identify and compare the energy distribution both in the time and frequency domain. The flexibility that the spectral width and location of the pass and stop bands can be tuned by introducing intentional variation in geometric and material properties for the individual substructure or cell is identified completely by both numerical predictions and experimental results. The results demonstrate the potential of such one-dimensional periodic structure in controlling the dynamics of wave propagation as a mechanical filter such as engine mount, gearbox support strut and other applications.

The core reactions for fuel cells,rechargeable metal-air batteries,and hydrogen fuel production are the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),oxygen evolution reaction(OER),and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),which are heavily dependent on the efficiency of *** attempts have previously been devoted in non-noble electrocatalysts born out of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)for ORR,OER,and HER applications,due to the following advantageous reasons:(i)The significant porosity eases the electrolyte diffusion;(ii)the supreme catalyst-electrolyte contact area enhances the diffusion efficiency;and(iii)the electronic conductivity can be extensively increased owing to the unique construction block subunits for MOFs-derived ***,the recent progress of MOFs-derived electrocatalysts including synthesis protocols,design engineering,DFT calculations roles,and energy applications is discussed and *** can be concluded that the elevated ORR,OER,and HER performances are attributed to an advantageously well-designed high-porosity structure,significant surface area,and plentiful active ***,the perspectives of MOF-derived electrocatalysts for the ORR,OER,and HER are presented.

The use of point load test for Dubai weak calcareous sandstones

Intact rock is typically described according to its uniaxial compressive strength （UCS）. The UCS is needed in the design of geotechnical engineering problems including stability of rock slopes and design of shallow and deep foundations resting on and/or in rocks. Accordingly, a correct measure-ment/evaluation of the UCS is essential to a safe and economic design. Typically, the UCS is measured using the unconfined compression tests performed on cylindrical intact specimens with a minimum length to width ratio of 2. In several cases, especially for weak and very weak rocks, it is not possible to extract intact specimens with the needed minimum dimensions. Thus, alternative tests （e.g. point load test, Schmidt hammer） are used to measure rock strength. The UCS is computed based on the results of these tests through empirical correlations. The literature includes a plethora of these correlations that vary widely in estimating rock strength. Thus, it is paramount to validate these correlations to check their suitability for estimating rock strength for a specific location and geology. A review of the available correlations used to estimate the UCS from the point load test results is performed and summarized herein. Results of UCS, point load strength index and Young＇s modulus are gathered for calcareous sandstone specimens extracted from the Dubai area. A correlation for estimating the UCS from the point load strength index is proposed. Furthermore, the Young＇s modulus is correlated to the UCS.

There is an increasing interest in developing nanoparticles with diverse biologic *** this end,we prepared 10 to 15 nm silver nanoparticles(AgNP)from native isolates of Trichoderma *** this study,endophytic fungi hosted four medicinal plants in Saint Katherine Protectorate,South Sinai,Egypt have been isolated by surface sterilization technique on four isolation *** species,based on their frequency of occurrence,out of twenty recovered taxa were tested for their capability to synthesize extracellular *** atroviride hosted Chiliadenus montanus was found to be the best candidate for the production of mycogenic AgNPs among all examined *** mycosynthesized AgNPs were compared with chemically synthesized and characterized using Ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)spectroscopy,Raman spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)*** HRTEM result showed the distribution of spherical AgNPs ranging from 10 to 15 *** atroviride isolate was subjected to sequencing for confirmation of phenotypic *** internal transcribed spacer(ITS)1-5.8 s-ITS2 rDNA sequences obtained were compared with those deposited in the GenBank Database and registered with accession number MH283876 in the NCBI ***,anticandidal and antifungal effects of chemically and mycosynthesized AgNPs were examined at various concentrations in vitro against six pathogenic bacteria and 4 pathogenic fungi by agar well diffusion *** antibiotics;Gentamicin,Amoxicillin,Clotrimazole,and Nystatin at 5μg/disk were taken as positive controls,while 5%DMSO was used as the negative *** data revealed that the application of mycogenic AgNPs at a concentration of 100 ppm resulted in maximum inhibition of pathogenic bacteria and *** data suggest that AgNPs from native isolates of Trichoderma atroviride(MH283876)offer a source of rapid synthesis of eco-friendly,e

Epigenetics plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases.1,2,3 Indeed,a large body of evidence implicates abnormal T cell DNA methylation patterns in the pathogenies of lupus,a prototypical autoimmune systemic disease.4,5 Specific DNA methylation marks have been associated with clinical subsets of lupus patients,6,7,8 while others,such as methylation levels in apoptosis genes,might explain differences in disease susceptibility between ethnicities.9 Furthermore,demethylation of the IFI44L gene locus has recently been described as a novel promising highly sensitive and specific diagnostic tool in lupus.

Optimizing a spark-ignition engine fuelled with methane using a two-zone combustion model

Methane which can be produced from biogas has a great potential to be used as an alternative renewable fuel for spark-ignition ***,engines need to be optimized for methane *** aim of this study was to numerically optimize a spark-ignition engine fueled with methane and operated at a constant speed of 1,500 rpm via using a validated two-zone combustion *** model was able to predict engine performance parameters,NO emission,and engine knock at different engine operating conditions including inlet pressure,compression ratio,and excess air *** knock was prevented by increasing the excess air factor up to 1.2 when the engine operated with higher inlet pressure and compression *** was found that a maximum inlet pressure of only 120 kPa could be used with an engine compression ratio of 14 and excess air factor of 1.2 for knock free *** peak engine power was produced when the engine operated with an inlet pressure of 200 kPa and compression ratio of 8 or *** was also found that the optimum operating condition which resulted in high engine power accompanied with low fuel consumption and high efficiency was obtained when the engine operated with an inlet pressure of 180 kPa and a compression ratio of *** condition required the engine to operate with an excess air factor of 1.19 to prevent engine ***,operating the engine at this optimum condition would be accompanied with high NO emission.
