AIM: To evaluate the effect of prophylactic administration of nepafenac in prevention of macular edema occurring in diabetic patients after phacoemulsification and to investigate the correlation between optical coherence tomography(OCT) foveal thickness and multifocal electroretinogram(MF-ERG) ***: The study included two groups. Group 1 included 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 30 females, 20 males, aged 55±7 y) received nepafenac 0.1% eye drop. Group 2 included another 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 22 female, 28 males, aged 53.8±8 y) did not receive nepafenac. All patients were followed up for 3 mo postoperatively. OCT and MF-ERG were done preoperative and at 1 wk, 1, 2 and 3 ***: The mean foveal thickness was statistically significantly lower in Group 1. Five eyes in Group 2 developed clinical cystoid macular oedema(CMO)(10%), and no patients in Group 1 developed central macular thickening more than 50 μm. There were insignificant differences in MF-ERG amplitudes and latencies between the two groups except in the five eyes that developed CMO, there statistically significant reduction of MF-ERG amplitude with increase in foveal thickness. CONCLUSION: Perioperative nepafenac reduces the incidence of CMO following uncomplicated phacoemulsification significantly. Nepafenac has no side effects.

The subsurface fatigue that occurs in the Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) hip joint cup has been identified to be correlated with the contact stress at that cup. This cup stress is known to be affected by the implant design, dimensions and materials. In this study, a 3D finite element modeling has been used to investigate the effects on the cup contact stress when using low stiffness Titanium alloy (Ti) as a femur head. Also, the effects on the cup contact stress due to using different sizes of femur heads, and the presence of metal backing shell with different thicknesses are studied. The finite element results show that the use of low stiffness Ti alloy femur head results in a significant decrease in the cup contact stress compared with Stainless Steel (SS) and Cobalt Chromium (Co Cr Mo) femur heads. The presence of metal backing shell up to 1 mm thickness results in a remarkable decrease in the cup contact stresses especially for small femur heads. Finally, the use of larger femur heads, up to 32 mm diameter, results in significant decrease in the overall predicted hip joint contact. The present results indicate that any changes in design and geometrical parameters of the hip joint have significant consequences in the long term behaviour of the artificial hip joint and should be taken into consideration.

A novel hydrothermal zirconium oxide (ZrO2) ion exchange material was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal technique. The material has been characterized using different tools such as thermal analysis (DTA-TGA), FT-IR and X-ray diffraction studies. The results show that the prepared ZrO2 is pure and with a unique shape and it belongs to the hexagonal system. Chemical resistively of the material for various media such as, water, acids and bases have been assessed. The capacity of ZrO2 ion exchanger for Na+, Cu2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions at natural pH has been determined. The effect of heating treatment for ZrO2 on ion exchange capacity was studied. The sorption/ion exchange behaviour of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions towards ZrO2 in dif-ferent pH media has been investigated. The distribution coefficients and separation factors were determined. Finally, Freundlich isotherms for Cu2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+ ions on hydrothermal ZrO2 ion exchanger were inves-tigated and the Freundlich isotherm constants were conduced.

Predicting Risk Factors of Heart Disease among Jordanian Patients

Aims and Objectives: This study focused on the predictive effects of physical inactivity, body shape, and tobacco use on heart disease patients. Background: Heart disease is a condition that can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices such as physical exercise, proper nutrition, and avoiding tobacco use. Design: The current study used a correlational cross-sectional survey design. Methods: Primary healthcare centers were selected randomly from the all practices in the middle region in Jordan. Patients were included if they had a working diagnosis of heart disease which was documented in their case notes, aged 18 years and older, visited out-patient department within the community hospitals or whom attended primary healthcare centers. Results: Factors associated with heart disease, as identified in the univariate regression analysis, were tobacco use, body shape, and employment status. Furthermore, Odds Ratio for patients with heart disease and tobacco was calculated and found that patients who smoked tobacco are more likely to have heart disease compared to non-smokers. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that the behavioural modification should be given top priority to prevent heart disease form occurring. On the other hand, regular physical activity may be useful to prevent the development of heart disease.

Metabolism such as Cairo evolves rabidly, to transform existing urban spaces. The result of transformation process may lead to the loss of the original space qualities. Opera and Ataba squares are junction space which is one of these urban spaces that meanwhile is suffering from this process. This junction space is between two unique urban structures Fatima Cairo and Down town Cairo. This urban structure needs to be a grand civic expression of the 19th century urban system with the new energies of the functionalist city. This Gordian knot of elevated highways, congested surface roads, extensive automobile parking and sprawling informal markets will be integrated into a new open space system that optimizes the city＇s intensified energies. This paper discusses urban structure transformation of the junction space urban structure timeline. Ending with a proposal finally transforms this space into a sustainable urban development.

Two brecciated shear zones (NNW-SSE) are found crosscutting cataclastic rocks. The cataclastic rocks (3.0 km2) occupy the core of the granitic pluton and enclose a roof pendant of mafic-ultramafic rocks. The NNW-SSE-extending lamprophyre dykes vary in thickness from 0.5 m to 1 m and up to 800 m long, cutting the cataclastic rocks and are composed mainly of plagioclases, amphiboles, relics of pyroxenes and K-feldspar phenocrysts embedded in fine-grained groundmass. They are characterized as being peraluminous, calc-alkaline in composition (chemical trap) and enriched in calcite, sulfide and P2O5. The lamprophyres were affected by hydrothermal alteration (chlorite-carbonate alteration) while the cataclastic rocks were affected by diagenetic alteration (K-feldspar-albite alteration). Uranium mineralization is the product of hydrothermal events and has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), involving primary uranium minerals (U3O8) and secondary uranium minerals (uranophane and beta-uranophane, kasolite, torbernite, autonite and meta-autonite) in addition to U- bearing minerals (astrocyanite, betafite and fergusonite). The presence of different mineral parageneses associated with clay minerals indicates that the lamprophyres were subjected to acidic and alkaline mineralizing solutions. Moreover, the U-Zr/U, U-Ce/U values show negative correlations, confirming U-enrichment in both cataclastic rocks and shear zones while the Th-eU/eTh, Th-Zr/Th and Th-Ce/Th values show negative correlations, indicating that the U-bearing solutions are rich in Th in the cataclastic rocks only.

Using Lean Manufacturing(LM)tools in production processes is crucial for companies’economic,environmental,and social sustainability *** study shows a structural equation model(SEM)that shows the relationship between LM Tools like Kaizen(KAI),Gemba(GEM),Value Stream Mapping(VSM)and Key Performance Indicator(KPI)with Economic Sustainability(ECS).Seven hypotheses were evaluated with data from 179 responses to a questionnaire about the Mexican maquiladora industry,showing that these variables are *** a 95%confidence level,the model was evaluated using the partial least squares *** findings indicate that the relationships between KAI and GEM and KAI and VSM have the strongest relationship,followed by VSM and ECS;however,VSM has the strongest effect on *** on these findings,it is recommended that managers adopt a continuous improvement(KAI)approach based on working directly on the shop floor(GEM and VSM)to support their decisions regarding economic growth(ECS).

Chemically synthesized cero-antimonate and titanium cero-antimonate prepared by sol-gel technique was conducted for the synthesis of a novel ion exchanger. The prepared materials has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, Fourier transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Thermograve-metric analyses. The structures and empirical formula's was identified and found to CeSb4O12?6.19H2O and TiCeSb4O14?12.22H2O, for cero-antiomate and titanium cero-antimonate, respectively. The data obtained from X-ray diffraction was analyzed to define the crystallographic feature of cero-antimonate and titanium cero-antimonate and found both the composites were belong to cubic system with lattice constant 5.15 and 5.149 ?, respectively. The crystallite size and strain of cero-antimonate and titanium cero-antimonate were determined. By using ChemDraw Ultra program the modeling structures of cero-antimonate and titanium cero-antimonate were conducted. Finally, application of the prepared materials for the removal of heavy metals from industrial waste water in terms of capacity measurements was performed.

Effect of Blast Furnace Sludge (BFS) Characteristics on Suitable Recycling Process Determining

The present study aims to give a detailed characterization of blast furnace sludge (BFS) by using different techniques, in order to determine the most effective recycling method to recover valuable metals from this waste. BFS is composed mainly of hematite, as its iron-bearing phase, and carbon, in addition to fractions of silicate and carbonate materials. The studied BFS shows relatively high contents of iron (Fe) (390 ***-1), and carbon (C) (290 ***-1), due to abundance of hematite and coke, while the concentration of zinc (Zn) (2.5 ***-1) is low. The XRD analyses indicated that, hematite is more concentrated in the fine fraction (<20 μm), while the coarser fraction (90 - 250 μm) is dominated by calcite, quartz and X-ray amorphous coke. SEM-EDX analyses confirmed that particles rich in iron and zinc were detected in the fine fraction (<20 μm) of the sludge. Due to high Fe and C content in BFS, it can be utilized as self-reducing material and briquetting represent a potential method for recycling of blast furnace sludge.
