Artificial intelligence(AI)and digital twin models of various systems have long been used in industry to test products quickly and *** of digital twins in clinical medicine caught attention with the development of Archimedes,an AI model of diabetes,in *** recently,AI models have been applied to the fields of cardiology,endocrinology,and undergraduate medical *** use of digital twins and AI thus far has focused mainly on chronic disease management,their application in the field of critical care medicine remains much less *** neurocritical care,current AI technology focuses on interpreting electroencephalography,monitoring intracranial pressure,and prognosticating *** models have been developed to interpret electroencephalograms by helping to annotate the tracings,detecting seizures,and identifying brain activation in unresponsive *** this mini-review we describe the challenges and opportunities in building an actionable AI model pertinent to neurocritical care that can be used to educate the newer generation of clinicians and augment clinical decision making.

Hunger and malnutrition are burdens that are pronounced in developing countries where they manifest themselves in the forms of protein energy malnutrition. malnutrition compromises the child’s immune system leading to direct mortality and increased vulnerability to infectious diseases stunting and poor brain development. this study sought to analyze the food consumption patterns of children 3 - 5 years old attending mateka Primary school, Bungoma County. this study adopted a cross sectional survey. One hundred and twenty five (125) children selected from three ECD classes in the school formed the sample size. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the study area and the children respectively. Structured questionnaires were administered to the caregivers of the children. Information on demographics, socio-economic status, and food consumption patterns were gathered. Food consumption patterns were assessed using a HDDS and a quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Socio-demographic data was analyzed using (SPSS) Version 21 (2007) and dietary data was analyzed using Nutri-Survey for Windows (2007). Results revealed that most of the households were of low socio-economic characteristics. the most consumed foods were cereals, roots and tubers. majority (55.2%) of the children had low dietary diversity, 29.1% had medium dietary diversity and 15.7% had greater dietary diversity. the children were deficient in energy, protein, Vitamin A, Iron and Zinc. It can be concluded that the diets fed to the children are inadequate to meet their nutrient intakes for physiological development and growth. Further research should be done to document the prevalence of micronutrient malnutrition among the children.

Hydatid cyst of the liver (KHF) is a parasitic condition caused by the development of the larval form of the dog tapenia Echinococcus granulosus. In sub-Saharan Africa, few writings are interested in this pathology, which remains common and constitutes a public health problem in highly endemic countries [1] [2]. We report the observation of a 61-year-old hypertensive patient owner of a dog admitted for abdominal pain without abdominal mass. In whom ultrasound and computed tomography have made it possible to make the diagnosis of hydatid cyst of the liver (KHF). the patient underwent surgery. We performed an associated conservative treatment post-operative albendazole. the post-operative follow-up was simple. In our patient the evolution was good after a setback of more than 2 months. through this observation and a review of the literature, we insist on the contribution of imaging in diagnosis and treatment, which is essentially surgical.

this work examines the use of communication channels to sensitize the people about life threatening diseases with special emphasis on Hepatitis. It becomes very topical at this moment because most of the viral infections wreak havoc such as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and more recently, Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) assumed an epidemic proportion because the people were not adequately sensitized with precautionary measures against them. One of such measures is dissemination of useful information on how to avoid or contain such viral infections. It also concerns itself with hepatitis because of its contagious nature and the way it attacks the liver. the study reviews relevant concepts to information dissemination. It discovers that as deadly as the disease is, most people, including some health attendants in hospitals do not understand what it means and how it is contracted. In addition, it was discovered that 60% of the total respondents did not know about hepatitis. 73% of those who claimed they knew about it knew through friends and not through the media. 80% of those who claimed they sought health information from the media did not know about hepatitis. 65% of those who claimed they had high access to radio did not really seek health information from the radio. In the communities in Nigeria, we suggest that there should be increased public awareness about viral diseases, complete immunization against viral hepatitis and better sanitation facilities. Other efforts by the Government should include the provision of safe drinking water;expansion of well-equipped hospitals among other health developmental programmes will go a long way in the reduction of hepatitis in communities, among pregnant women as well as its associated maternal effects in the communities.

It is now generally accepted that the burden of disease due to prostate cancer has tremendously increased globally. Current data indicates that prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men in the United State of America, and the second leading cause of death due to cancer in men. Progression to androgen independence and subsequent therapeutic resistance and death is a common fate of patients with prostate cancer. this review highlights the gene expression profile of androgen independent prostate cancer and the possible mechanisms that results in transformation to such treatment resistant state.

three dimensional printing (3D printing) technology is increasingly used to improve results in many areas of medicine. Physical models produced by this technology allow better appreciation of complex anatomical and pathologic conditions. In cardiovascular medicine and surgery, 3D modeling has been reported to be of help in treatment planning of abdominal aortic aneurysm, especially in cases of complex angulations and branching at the aneurysm neck. Here we report the use of 3D printing in cases of renal aneurysms. Enhanced 3D models of CtA images of renal aneurysms were prepared in house using common and freely available software programs, and an accurate desktop 3D printer. Eight reconstructed models were enlarged by a factor of 2 or more and then differentially painted to delineate normal arteries and aneurysmatic ones. these enhanced 3D solid models allowed visual and tactile inspection for a better appreciation of complex aneurysms. Color enhancement of these models added another dimension of comprehension, even for experienced surgeons and invasive radiologists, and allowed more accurate measurements of branch numbers, distances, and angles in space even with severe tortuosity. Endovascular use of covered stents and embolization techniques could be easily envisioned preoperatively. We conclude that enhanced, enlarged, and colored 3D printed models are a powerful tool for preoperative endovascular treatment planning of complex renal artery aneurysms.

the purpose of our study was to compare interfractional bony setup variations in pelvic anatomy with two immobilization devices, the patient-specific Vac-Lok and the generic Dual Leg Positioner system (both Civco medical Solutions, Kalona, IA), for bilateral proton radiotherapy of the prostate. two groups of 10 patients were studied. Computed tomography (Ct) was performed three times a week, yielding 233 Ct image sets for the vacuum system group and 252 for the other group. the translational shifts of the pelvic bone and prostate and rotation of the upper femurs of the femoral heads with respect to the simulation Ct images were analyzed. Along the anterior-posterior and lateral axes, mean and systematic translational variations of the pelvic bone and prostate, relative to skin fiducials, were significantly lower in the Vac-Lok group (all p 0.01) than in the Dual Leg Positioner group. Abduction of the upper femur, the dominant rotation, had random rotational variations of 1.9° and 2.0° and systematic rotations of 3.1° and 2.9° for the vacuum and generic system groups, respectively. Femoral abduction was highly correlated with anterior prostate displacement for both femurs in both groups (p tion introduced during simulation Ct, particularly with the generic immobilization system. High degrees of femoral rotation may introduce prostate translation and distal misalignment of lateral proton beams with the prostate.

Introduction: the truFUSE lumbar facet fusion system is a unique allograft milled bone dowel used to fuse facet joints. We evaluated subjects undergoing truFUSE fusion for stable grade I spondylolisthesis and stenosis comparing operative time, length of stay, blood loss and outcome to a similar literature-based cohort of patients undergoing pedicle screw fusion (PSF). methods: From 2009 to 2011, 41 subjects (17 m,24 F, aver. age 69.5 yr) underwent truFUSE facet fusion along with transverse process bone fusion and laminectomy. Length of stay, operative time, blood loss and outcomes were compared to eight literature-based cohort that analyzed similar parameters following pedicle screw fusion. Results: the 41 subjects’ mean operative time for laminectomy, transverse process fusion and truFUSE facet fusion was 106 min, with a mean blood loss of145 cm3, and a mean hospital stay of 1.7 days (77% one day). A follow-up at average six months, 33 (80%) subjects reported subjective outcomes of “excellent” or “somewhat improved”, four (10%) “unchanged” and four (10%) “worse”. Flexion and extension radiographs showed 39 of the 41 patients (95%) had spinal stability at an average six months post-op and all (100%) had signs of early fusion. Discussion: truFUSE subjects had significantly (p - 19 days range). mean estimated blood loss (EBL) was significantly lower (p 3 compared to321 cm3 and1082 cm3 range for PSF). Subjective outcome and radiographic stability were comparable between groups. Conclusion: this comparison using the truFUSE lumbar facet fusion system demonstrates improvements in length of stay, surgical blood loss, and operative time in our selected patient population compared to several published lumbar pedicle screw fusion systems outcomes. there may be potential economic benefits as a result of these improvements.
