Crystal structures and constitution of the binary system iridium-boron

The constitution of the binary system Ir-B has been established between 10 and 70 at.% boron for temperatures above 700°C based on differential scanning calorimetry, electron probe microanalysis, and isothermal low temperature annealing experiments(≤1000°C). Four binary phases have been found, namely Ir4B5+x, Ir5B4+x and the high and low temperature modification of Ir4B3-x. X-ray structure analyses were performed on single crystals of Ir4B5+x(x = 0, Ir4B5 type; space group C2/m; a = 1.05200(2), b = 0.289564(6) and c = 0.60958(1) nm, β = 91.156(2)°), Ir5B4+x(x=0, Ir5B4 type; space group I41/a; a = 0.62777(1) and b = 1.02599(2) nm) and on the low temperature modification of Ir4B3-x(x=0, Ir B0.9 type; space group Cmc21; a = 0.27728(1), b = 0.75742(2) and c = 0.73152(2) nm). The high temperature modification of Ir4B3-x(WC type; space group P6-m2; a = 0.28137(5) and c = 0.2828(1) nm) has been confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. By means of the first-principle calculations, in combination with the evolutionary structural search algorithm, the compositions, structures and enthalpies of the Ir-B system have been investigated theoretically. Confirming the experimental observations on Ir4B5, Ir5B4 and Ir4B3, we have investigated several metastable phases at other stoichiometries, such as Ir B, Ir B2 and Ir3B2. We also proposed three thermodynamically and dynamically stable new structures of o F28-Ir4B3, o C8-Ir B and m C10-Ir3B2, which may be synthesized under certain conditions.

Objective: In the context of increasing cases despite vaccination campaigns, a survey was conducted in the Bangui population from January 17 to 26, 2022, to evaluate the strains of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection Coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) circulating in a healthy population. Materials and methods: This study was conducted by taking nasopharyngeal samples from randomly selected volunteers. Antigen detection was performed systematically, and RT-PCR was done on the positive samples. Results and discussion: We collected 2,554 samples. Thirty were found RT-PCR positive (1.2%) and sent for viral genome sequencing. Twenty-eight SARS-Cov-2 strains belonged to the Omicron type, and only 2 to the Delta type. Conclusion: Thus, infections were uncommon in the tested population, but the presence of Omicron and Delta types raises concerns that vaccination may not be effective in fighting the virus, and newly designed vaccines should be implemented to better protect the population at risk of infection and reinfection by these variants.

Ammonia electrooxidation reaction involving multistep electron-proton transfer is a significant reaction for fuel cells,hydrogen production and understanding nitrogen *** has been established as the best electrocatalyst for ammonia oxidation in aqueous alkaline *** this study,Pt/nitrogen-doped graphene(NDG)and Pt/tungsten monocarbide(WC)/NDG are synthesized by a wet chemistry method and their ammonia oxidation activities are compared to commercial Pt/***/NDG exhibits a specific activity of 0.472 mA·cm^(-2),which is 44%higher than commercial Pt/C,thus establishing NDG as a more effective support than carbon ***,it is demonstrated that WC as a support also impacts the activity with further 30%increase in comparison to *** modification with Ir resulted in the best electro-catalytic activity with Pt-IrAVC/NDG having almost thrice the current density of commercial Pt/*** work adds insights regarding the role of NDG and WC as efficient supports along with significant impact of Ir surface modification.

BMI and Risk Factors of Underweight and Obesity in HIV Subjects in Eastern Nigeria

Background and Objectives: Human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV) is a global healthcare problem. Progression of HIV infection is commonly associated with decreasing weight. In the early phases of HIV infection, factors associated with weight changes are not completely known. This study evaluated the body mass index (BMI) and its potential risk factors in drug-naive HIV subjects in Owerri, Eastern Nigeria. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study of HIV subjects. BMI was determined. Relevant investigations were performed. Potential risk factors of BMI were analyzed at different BMI categories. Association of variables with BMI and the strength of variables to predict BMI, underweight and obesity were determined. Results: The mean BMI of the HIV subjects was 26.2 ± 5.4 kg/m2. Underweight was present in 24 (6.1%), overweight in 150 (38.4%) and obesity in 84 (21.5%) of the HIV subjects. High spot urine creatinine (SUCr), high 24-hour urine osmolality (24HUOsm), high serum cholesterol and high hemoglobin predicted BMI in HIV subjects. Low 24HUOsm predicted under weight, whereas low 24-hour urine protein (24 HUP) and high 24HUOsm predicted obesity in HIV subjects. Conclusion: The prevalence of underweight was low (6.1%), overweight high (38.4%) and obesity high (21.5%) in HIV subjects. High SUCr, high 24HUOsm, high serum cholesterol and high hemoglobin were predictors of BMI in HIV subjects. Low 24HUOsm was a predictor of underweight, while low 24HUP and high 24HUOsm were predictors of obesity in HIV subjects. Abnormalities of serum lipids, renal function, and anemia were common in HIV subjects who were underweight and in those obese. Underweight HIV subjects should be evaluated at the early stages for dyslipidemia, renal damage and anemia.
