Synthetic resin, Amberlite XAD-4 was linked covalently with the third generation supramolecule, octa-O-methoxy resorcin [4] arene through -N=N-group to form chelating resin, which has been characterized and effectively used for the separation and preconcentration of metal ions such as Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II). Critical parameters such as pH, flow rate, sorption capacity, breakthrough studies, distribution coefficient, preconcentration factor, concentration of eluting agents responsible for quantitative extraction of metal ions were optimized. The synthesized resin showed good binding affinity towards Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) under selective pH conditions. Good breakthrough capacity and fast exchange kinetics of the resin lead to effective separation of metal ions from their binary and ternary mixture by column method on the basis of pH and eluting agents. The resin could be reused for about 8 -10 cycles. The proposed method having the analytical data with the relative standard deviation (RSD) 2% and with recoveries of analytes higher than 98%, reflects upon the reproducibility and reliability of the method which has been successfully applied in the separation and determination of Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions in synthetic, natural and ground water samples.

当亲水的水溶性基质接触水溶液后,就形成了一层假胶状膜,这层膜控制了片子的溶蚀和药物向周围液体扩散的速率。Willis及其同工作者测定了双氯灭痛静脉给药和口服给药的药物动力学。该药动力学的特性曲线提示,以控制药物吸收来达到延长周期,保证几乎是恒定的血药水平,并具有较小的毒副作用是有可能的。本文拟介绍双氯灭痛控释片的研究。方法为使双氯灭痛从控释片中释放达12h以上,应用Robinson和Eriksen方程,根据所报道的药动学数据计算其修正剂量和维持剂量分别为16.5mg和96.0mg.

Despite the low incidence, squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) remains the most common scrotal malignancy featuring a propensity for recurrence and metastasis. In recent years there has been a significant change in the epidemiology of scrotal SCC. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for resectable disease. Sentinel lymph node dissection similar to algorithm for patients with penile SCC can reduce the morbidity of routine lymph node dissection. Emerging treatments for advanced and metastatic SCC are at the cusp of significantly changing management of this disease. We have performed a comprehensive review of scrotal SCC with a focus on these topics.

GAGAN is an Indian implementation of Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS), developed jointly by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is in final operational phase with all the required ground and space segments ready. With the availability of GAGAN signal-in-space (SIS), the improvement in position solution is investigated using the two collocated dual frequency GPS receivers. One of the receivers was configured as SBAS receiver and the other was kept as GPS stand-alone receiver. It is found that accuracy in position improved significantly in SBAS receiver due to GAGAN correction. The impact of scintillation on GNSS was also investigated in terms of position degradation and loss of lock of the satellite signals. The manyfold effects of scintillation on GPS and SBAS are discussed in detail. The results indicate ~15% reduction in number of measurements due to loss of lock during severe scintillation.

Hematogenous Osteomyelitis by Acinetobacter Baumannii: Case Report and Literature Review

Skeletal infection with Acinetobacter baumanii is a rare condition and found mainly among soldiers injured in war. Multidrug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumanii (A. baumanii) osteomyelitis is difficult to treat and requires long course of intravenous antibiotics. Most of reported cases in the literature are the consequences of direct inoculation of the pathogen. Here in, we report the first case of A. Baumannii osteomyelitis disseminated through hematogenous route and the therapeutic approach for this rare infection. Clinical Presentation: A 46 year old African-American male patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and end- stage renal disease on hemodialysis, who developed persistent MDR A. baumanii bacteremia in the hospital, thought to be secondary to the hemodialysis catheter, necessitating replacement of the catheter. Three months after his discharge to a skilled nursing facility (SNF), he developed left leg swelling without noticeable pain or fever. MRI revealed findings consistent with chronic osteomyelitis of left tibia and intra operative bone culture grew MDR A. baumannii. The patient had good outcome after three surgical debridements and prolonged period (7 Months) of dual antimicrobial therapy. Discussion: While in most documented cases of A. baumannii osteomyelitis, entry appears to require direct inoculation;our case suggests that this pathogen can seed into bone hematogenously in the setting of immunosuppression, persistent bacteremia and possibly in the presence of underlying bone infarcts. Clinicians need to be aware of this rare possible consequence of A. baumannii bacteremia. In conclusion, combination of multiple surgical debridements and dual antimicrobial therapy for a long period may result in a good outcome.

Bioadsorption phenomenon is more or less like a chemical reaction and several parameters are bound to affect the process. The pH, amount of adsorbent and agitation time influence the biosorptive potentiality. Hence, the present study on adsorption of Cr(VI) by activated Vetivera roots and Blue green algae Anabaena supports that it is an effective low cost adsorbent for the removal of Cr(VI) from plating effluent. Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm correlate the equilibrium adsorption data. In batch experiments both Vetiveria and Anabaena species were found to be cost effective biosorbent for the efficient removal of Cr(VI) from the effluent and comparatively Anabaena species was found to adsorb maximum Cr(VI) (88.86%) at a low contact time of 60 min. The data obtained from the experiments and modeling would prove useful in designing and fabricating an efficient treatment plant for Cr(VI) rich effluent.
