Density, viscosity and sound velocity of six binary liquid mixtures of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, hexanol and octanol with 1,4-dioxane have been measured over the entire range of composition at temperature 303.15K. From the experimental densities, viscosities and sound velocity, the excess molar volume (VE), deviation in viscosity (Δη) and deviation in isentropic compressibility (ΔKS) have been calculated. The results have been used to discuss the nature and strength of intermolecular interactions in these mixtures.

Hernia is a common problem of the modern world with its incidence more in developing countries. Inguinal hernia is the most common groin hernia repaired worldwide. With advancement in technology operative techniques of repair have also evolved. A Pub Med and COCHRANE database search was accomplished in this regard to establish the current status of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in view of recent published literature. Published literature support that laparoscopic hernia repair is best suited for recurrent and bilateral inguinal hernia although it may be offered for primary inguinal hernia if expertise is available.

Recently we interpreted five q-series identities of Rogers combinatorially by using partitions with “n +t cop-ies of n” of agarwal and Andrews (J. Combin. Theory Ser.A, 45(1987), No.1, 40-49). In this paper we use lattice paths of agarwal and Bressoud (Pacific J. Math. 136(2) (1989), 209-228) to provide new combinatorial interpretations of the same identities. This results in five new 3-way combinatorial identities.

Recently in [1] Goyal and agarwal interpreted a generalized basic series as a generating function for a colour partition function and a weighted lattice path function. This led to an infinite family of combinatorial identities. Using Frobenius partitions, we in this paper extend the result of [1] and obtain an infinite family of 3-way combinatorial identities. We illustrate by an example that our main result has a potential of yielding Rogers-Ramanujan-MacMahon type identities with convolution property.

Chronic kidney disease(CKD) patients have high cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. The presence of traditional and CKD related risk factors results in exaggerated vascular calcification in these patients. Vascular calcification is associated with reduced large arterial compliance and thus impaired baroreflex sensi-tivity(BRS) resulting in augmented blood pressure(BP) variability and hampered BP regulation. Baroreflex plays a vital role in short term regulation of BP. This review discusses the normal baroreflex physiology, methods to assess baroreflex function, its determinants along with the prognostic significance of assessing BRS in CKD patients, available literature on BRS in CKD patients and the probable patho-physiology of baroreflex dysfunction in CKD.

Objective: To undertake metabolite profiling of various plant parts of Citrullus colocynthis, and assess antioxidant and wound healing activities of fractions for therapeutical applications. Methods: Extracts from leaves, stem, root, fruit pulp and seeds were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography. Variation in antioxidant potential was assayed by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging assay. The extract with highest antioxidant potential was subjected on in-vivo wound healing activity using excision wound model. Results: Metabolite profiling of Citrullus colocynthis identified 70 chemically diverse metabolites from different plant parts by using a combination of GC-MS and HPLC. Concentration of colocynthin, a principal active secondary metabolite, ranged from 3.15 mg/g dry weight to 242.00 mg/g dry weight, the lowest being in leaves and highest in fruit pulp. DPPH radical scavenging activity of free radical(IC50) ranged from 196.44 μg/mL in fruit pulp to 413.33 μg/mL in leaves tissues. Significant wound contraction and increase in hydroxyproline content of granulation tissue were observed with ointment formulated from methanolic extract of fruit pulp. Conclusions: The study indicates that the methanol extract of Citrullus colocynthis fruit pulp when applied topically may promote wound contraction in rat model attributable to the accumulation of colocynthin. The high quantity of colocynthin(242.00 mg/g dry weight) and substantial concentration of 2,4-di-tert butyl phenol(3.2%), squalene(4.2%) and δ-tocopherol(2.5%) make this plant to provide new opportunities for development of medicinal, nutraceutical and dietary supplements with optimized functionality.

In two-stage warehouse location problem, goods are moved from plants to warehouses at stage-1 (which are larger sized warehouses), and from there to warehouses at stage-2 (which are smaller sized warehouses);and finally to the markets. We aim to minimize the sum of location costs of the warehouses at stage-1 and stage-2;plus the total distribution cost of goods to the markets. In this paper two-stage capacitated warehouse location problem (TSCWLP) is vertically decomposed into the smaller problems, which is attained by relaxing the associated flow balance constraints. This leads to three different versions of Capacitated Plant Location Problem (CPLP) referred as RHS_CPLP, MID_CPLP and LHS_CPLP (Verma and Sharma REF _Ref387068711 \r \h [1]). In this paper MID_CPLP is reduced to RHS_CPLP and a single constraint 0-1 Knapsack problem by relaxing a difficult constraint. Interesting results and conjectures are given. Later two more valid constraints are added to MID_CPLP which are relaxed further to get additional results.

Alloys of Se80-xTe20Inx glassy system are obtained by quenching technique and crystallization kinetics has been studied using Differential Scanning Calorimetric [DSC] technique. Well defined endothermic and exothermic peaks are ob- served at glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tc). From DSC scans, Tc is obtained at dif- ferent heating rates (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 K/min). It is observed that Tc increases with increasing heating rate for a particular glassy alloy. Activation energy of crystallization (Ec) has been calculated by different Non-isothermal Iso-conversional methods, i.e., Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose [KAS], Friedman, Flynn-wall-Ozawa [FWO], Friedman-Ozawa [FO] and Sta-rink methods. It is observed that Ec is dependent on extent of crystallization (α). Activation energy is also found to vary with atomic percentage of In in ternary Se80-xTe20Inx glassy system. The compositional dependence of Ec shows a re-versal in the trend at x = 15 in Se80-xTe20Inx, which is explained in terms of mechanically stabilized structure at this composition.
