Effects of bacterial strains on undrained cyclic behavior of bio-cemented sand considering wetting and drying cycles

The microbial-induced calcite precipitation(MICP)technique has been developed as a sustainable methodology for the improvement of the engineering characteristics of sandy ***,the efficiency of MICP-treated sand has not been well established in the literature considering cyclic loading under undrained ***,the efficacy of different bacterial strains in enhancing the cyclic properties of MICP-treated sand has not been sufficiently ***,the effect of wetting-drying(WD)cycles on the cyclic characteristics of MICP-treated sand is not readily available,which may contribute to the limited adoption of MICP treatment in field *** this study,strain-controlled consolidated undrained(CU)cyclic triaxial testing was conducted to evaluate the effects of MICP treatment on standard Ennore sand from India with two bacterial strains:Sporosarcina pasteurii and Bacillus *** treatment durations of 7 d and 14 d were considered,with an interval of 12 h between *** cyclic characteristics,such as the shear modulus and damping ratio,of the MICP-treated sand with the different bacterial strains have been estimated and ***,the effect of WD cycles on the cyclic characteristics of MICP-treated sand has been evaluated considering 5–15 cycles and aging of samples up to three *** findings of this study may be helpful in assessing the cyclic characteristics of MICP-treated sand,considering the influence of different bacterial strains,treatment duration,and WD cycles.

The electromagnetic levitation system(EMLS)serves as the most important part of any magnetic levitation ***,its characteristics are defined by its highly nonlinear dynamics and ***,the uncertainties in the dynamics of an electromagnetic levitation system make the controller design more ***,it is necessary to design a robust control law that will ensure the system’s stability in the presence of these *** this framework,the dynamics of an electromagnetic levitation system are addressed in terms of matched and unmatched *** robust control problem is translated into the optimal control problem,where the uncertainties of the electromagnetic levitation system are directly reflected in the cost *** optimal control method is used to solve the robust control *** solution to the optimal control problem for the electromagnetic levitation system is indeed a solution to the robust control problem of the electromagnetic levitation system under matched and unmatched *** simulation and experimental results demonstrate the performance of the designed control *** performance indices such as integral absolute error(IAE),integral square error(ISE),integral time absolute error(ITAE),and integral time square error(ITSE)are compared for both uncertainties to showcase the robustness of the designed control scheme.

Machine learning(ML)is increasingly applied for medical image processing with appropriate learning *** applications include analyzing images of various organs,such as the brain,lung,eye,etc.,to identify specific flaws/diseases for *** primary concern of ML applications is the precise selection of flexible image features for pattern detection and region *** of the extracted image features are irrelevant and lead to an increase in computation ***,this article uses an analytical learning paradigm to design a Congruent Feature Selection Method to select the most relevant image *** process trains the learning paradigm using similarity and correlation-based features over different textural intensities and pixel *** similarity between the pixels over the various distribution patterns with high indexes is recommended for disease ***,the correlation based on intensity and distribution is analyzed to improve the feature selection ***,the more congruent pixels are sorted in the descending order of the selection,which identifies better regions than the ***,the learning paradigm is trained using intensity and region-based similarity to maximize the chances of ***,the probability of feature selection,regardless of the textures and medical image patterns,is *** process enhances the performance of ML applications for different medical image *** proposed method improves the accuracy,precision,and training rate by 13.19%,10.69%,and 11.06%,respectively,compared to other models for the selected *** mean error and selection time is also reduced by 12.56%and 13.56%,respectively,compared to the same models and dataset.

Assessing compressive strengths of mortar and concrete from digital images by machine learning techniques

Compressive strength is the most important metric of concrete *** nondestructive and semi-destructive tests can be used to evaluate the compressive strength of *** the present study,a new image-based machine learning method is used to predict concrete compressive strength,including evaluation of six different *** include support-vector machine model and various deep convolutional neural network models,namely AlexNet,GoogleNet,VGG19,ResNet,and *** the present investigation,cement mortar samples were prepared using each of the cement:sand ratios of 1:3,1:4,and 1:5,and using the water:cement ratios of 0.35 and *** concrete was prepared using the cement:sand:coarse aggregate ratios of 1:5:10,1:3:6,1:2:4,1:1.5:3 and 1:1:2,using the water:cement ratio of 0.5 for all *** samples were cut,and several images of the cut surfaces were captured at various zoom levels using a digital *** samples were then tested destructively for compressive *** images and corresponding compressive strength were then used to train machine learning models to allow them to predict compressive strength based upon the image *** Inception-ResNet-V2 models exhibited the best predictions of compressive strength among the models ***,the present findings validated the use of machine learning models as an efficient means of estimating cement mortar and concrete compressive strengths based on digital microscopic images,as an alternative nondestructive/semi-destructive test method that could be applied at relatively less expense.

Therapy of Helicobacter pylori(***)requires a combination of antibiotics together with an acid suppressing agent;most treatment regimens include Amoxicillin as one of the antibiotics,which is an important constituent as resistance to it is ***,allergies to the penicillin group of antibiotics are not uncommon,and treating *** infection in such individuals can be challenging due to the restricted choice of *** aim of this review is to summarise the evidence for therapeutic options in patients with *** infection and penicillin allergy.A literature search was conducted in PubMed for English language publications using the key words‘Helicobacter’and‘treatment’or‘therapy‘and‘penicillin’or‘beta-lactam’and‘allergy’or‘anaphylaxis’.Eighteen studies were identified that specifically evaluated *** treatment success in penicillin allergic *** number of subjects in most of them was low and many were retrospective,uncontrolled,single cohort *** most effective option for first-line treatment appears to be Bismuth-based quadruple therapy for 10-14 *** evidence supports second-line treatment with Levoflaxacin-based triple therapy for 10 *** with persistent *** infection after 2 treatment courses should be considered for testing to confirm penicillin *** treatment should be guided by the results of *** culture and sensitivity testing.
