Management of hypersplenism in non-cirrhotic portal hypertension:a surgical series

BACKGROUND:Hypersplenism is commonly seen in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension(NCPH).While a splenectomy alone can effectively relieve the hypersplenism,it does not address the underlying portal *** present study was undertaken to analyze the impact of shunt and non-shunt operations on the resolution of hypersplenism in patients with *** relationship of symptomatic hypersplenism,severe hypersplenism and number of peripheral cell line defects to the severity of portal hypertension and outcome was also ***:A retrospective analysis of NCPH patients with hypersplenism managed surgically between 1999 and 2009 at our center was *** 252 patients with NCPH,64(45 with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction and 19 with non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis) had hypersplenism and constituted the study *** analysis was done using GraphPad *** and continuous variables were compared using the chi-square test,ANOVA,and Student’s t *** MannWhitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare non-parametric ***:The mean age of patients in the study group was 21.81±6.1 *** was symptomatic in 70.3% with an incidence of spontaneous bleeding at 26.5%,recurrent anemia at 34.4%,and recurrent infection at 29.7%.The mean duration of surgery was 4.16±1.9 hours,intraoperative blood loss was 457±126(50-2000) mL,and postoperative hospital stay 5.5±1.9 *** surgery,normalization of hypersplenism occurred in all *** long-term followup,none of the patients developed hepatic encephalopathy and 4 had a variceal re-bleeding(2 after a splenectomy alone,1 each after an esophago-gastric devascularization and proximal splenorenal shunt).Patients with severe hypersplenism and those with defects in all three peripheral blood cell lineages were older,had a longer duration of symptoms,and a higher incidence of variceal bleeding and postoperative *** addition,patients with t

Chemical, mechanical, and thermal expansion properties of a carbon nanotube-reinforced aluminum nanocomposite

In the present study,the chemical and mechanical properties and the thermal expansion of a carbon nanotube（CNT）-based crystalline nano-aluminum（nano Al） composite were *** properties of nanocomposites were tailored by incorporating CNTs into the nano Al matrix using a physical mixing *** elastic moduli and the coefficient of thermal expansion（CTE） of the nanocomposites were also estimated to understand the effects of CNT reinforcement in the Al *** characterization of the nanocomposite reveals that the CNTs are dispersed and embedded in the Al *** experimental results indicate that the incorporation of CNTs into the nano Al matrix results in the increase in hardness and elastic modulus along with a concomitant decrease in the coefficient of thermal expansion The hardness and elastic modulus of the nanocomposite increase by 21%and 20%,respectively,upon CNT *** CTE of CNT/A1 nanocomposite decreases to 70%compared with that of nano Al.

This article presents an in-depth exploration of the acoustofluidic capabilities of guided flexural waves(GFWs)generated by a membrane acoustic waveguide actuator(MAWA).By harnessing the potential of GFWs,cavity-agnostic advanced particle manipulation functions are achieved,unlocking new avenues for microfluidic systems and lab-on-a-chip *** localized acoustofluidic effects of GFWs arising from the evanescent nature of the acoustic fields they induce inside a liquid medium are numerically investigated to highlight their unique and promising *** traditional acoustofluidic technologies,the GFWs propagating on the MAWA’s membrane waveguide allow for cavity-agnostic particle manipulation,irrespective of the resonant properties of the fluidic ***,the acoustofluidic functions enabled by the device depend on the flexural mode populating the active region of the membrane *** demonstrations using two types of particles include in-sessile-droplet particle transport,mixing,and spatial separation based on particle diameter,along with streaming-induced counter-flow virtual channel generation in microfluidic PDMS *** experiments emphasize the versatility and potential applications of the MAWA as a microfluidic platform targeted at lab-on-a-chip development and showcase the MAWA’s compatibility with existing microfluidic systems.

Effect of friction stir processing on corrosion of Al-TiB2 based composite in 3.5 wt.% sodium chloride solution

The microstructure and corrosion behavior of as-cast and friction stir processed in-situ Al-TiB2 based composite in 3.5 wt.% sodium chloride solution were investigated. The microstructure was characterized using X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and electron backscattered diffraction technique while corrosion behavior was evaluated using linear/cyclic potentiodynamic, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and ASTM–G67 tests. The composite contains sub-micron TiB2 particles in an aluminum matrix with both blocky and fine clusters of Al3Ti agglomerated around TiB2 and displays a low uniform corrosion rate. It is also resistant to pitting as substantiated by the absence of a positive loop in cyclic potentiodynamic tests. This is due to the non-conductive nature of TiB2 particles and a controlled amount of blocky Al3Ti phase. However, both friction stir processed and as-cast composites are susceptible to inter-granular corrosion where Al3Ti and TiB2 at grain boundaries provide initiation sites for corrosion. Electrochemical impedance study attributes this to the adverse effect of Al3Ti and TiB2 on the protective oxide surface film, which increases with immersion time.

Recent progress in carbonaceous materials based Z-scheme and Sscheme heterojunctions for photocatalytic clean energy generation

Carbonaceous materials including carbon nanotubes/nanofibers, graphene, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide,graphyne, graphdiyne, carbon quantum dots and fullerenes have gained considerable attention in the recent years for their unique properties such as high conductivity, excellent stability and biocompatibility. The integration of these carbonaceous materials into Zscheme and S-scheme heterojunctions has emerged as a transformative strategy to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency for energy conversion applications. This review delves into the fundamental principles of clean energy generation such as photocatalytic H2generation and CO2reduction, elucidating their respective mechanisms and advantages. Furthermore, various types of carbonaceous materials, their synthesis and construction of Z-scheme and S-scheme heterojunctions are discussed emphasizing their role in promoting charge separation, reducing recombination losses and extending the spectral response range. With the focus on solar fuel production,the recent advancements in carbonaceous based Z-scheme and S-scheme heterojunctions are discussed and summarized for photocatalytic H2generation and CO2reduction. Lastly, the current bottlenecks and challenges in the field of carbonaceous based photocatalysts are discussed with the valuable insights for future development in this particular field.

Theoretical Study of Screening Dependence of Aluminium Doped MgB_2

The screening dependence of superconducting state parameters （λ, μ＊, Tc, α and NoV） of six alloys of aluminium doped MgB2 systems are studied in the BCS-Eliashberg-MeMillan framework by employing five forms of dielectric screening function, viz. random phase approximation （RPA）, Harrison, Geldart and Vosko （GV）, Hubbard and Overhauser in conjunction with Ashcroft＇s potential. It is observed that electron-phonon coupling strength and Coulomb pseudopotential μ＊ are quite sensitive to the form of dielectric screening, whereas transition temperature Tc, isotope effect exponent α and effective interaction strength NoV show weak dependence on the form of dielectric screening function. It is found that the RPA form of dielectric screening function yields the best results for transition temperature Tc for all alloys of the Mg-Al-B system. The results obtained using GV screening are much higher than the experimental results. This shows that all the four dielectric screenings used here almost describe superconductivity in all the alloys of the Mg-Al-B system, but the GV screening is not suitable for such an alloy system.

石墨炔(GDY)是一种新生的二维材料,其在去除水溶液中污染物的研究方面引起了广泛关注。GDY是sp和sp2杂化碳原子的框架,其在二维对称网络中存在苯环和二乙基键,因此具有优异的共轭性、独特的可调谐电子性能、以及优异的化学和热稳定性。GDY的分子中有C≡C键,且具有均匀分布的三角形孔,可提供更多的反应位点和多种反应路径。因而,GDY具有吸附性,其作为吸附剂时在去除污染水中的油、有机污染物、染料和金属方面表现优异。在已发表的文献中,GDY被用作吸附剂的报道十分有限。本文综述了GDY的合成方法、GDY作为吸附剂的应用以及GDY基吸附剂的表征,并展望了GDY在污染物修复中的应用前景。

The oldest Asian record of alpheid shrimps,assigned to genus Alpheus,based on snapping claw fingertips from the Miocene Khari Nadi Formation in the Kutch Basin,western India reported herein,extends the fossil record of the family Alpheidae from Asia by~22 million *** early Miocene(Aquitanian)age is estimated based on the associated assemblage of calcareous nannofossils,Sphenolithus disbelemnos,Cyclicargolithus floridanus,and Reticulofenestra *** co-occurring microbiota includes bony fish otolith remains,identified as“genus Gobiidarum”,isolated teeth of Dasyatis rays,Sphyrna sharks,and teleosts,ctenoid and placoid scales,ostracods,belonging to the genera Paractinocythereis,Alocopocythere,Ruggieria,Aglaiocypris,Bairdoppilata,and echinoid *** together,the microfossil assemblage and data from chemical analyses using Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy,X-Ray Diffraction and Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence of host and associated lithologies suggests prevalence of a shallow(neritic)to coastal marine(intertidal)depositional *** present investigation also provides the oldest fossil evidence on the co-occurrence of Alpheus and gobiids(based on otoliths)that strongly advocates that the mutualistic association between these animal groups had developed by the Aquitanian.
