Recent Advances in Dissecting Stress-Regulatory Crosstalk in Rice

Biotic and abiotic stresses impose a serious limitation on crop productivity worldwide. Prior or simultaneous exposure to one type of stress often affects the plant response to other stresses, indicating extensive overlap and cross-talk between stress-response signaling pathways. Systems biology approaches that integrate large genomic and prot-eomic data sets have facilitated identification of candidate genes that govern this stress-regulatory crosstalk. Recently, we constructed a yeast two-hybrid map around three rice proteins that control the response to biotic and abiotic stresses, namely the immune receptor XA21, which confers resistance to the Gram-negative bacterium, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae; NH1, the rice ortholog of NPR1, a key regulator of systemic acquired resistance; and the ethylene-responsive transcription factor, SUBIA, which confers tolerance to submergence stress. These studies coupled with transcriptional profiling and co-expression analyses identified a suite of proteins that are positioned at the interface of biotic and abiotic stress responses, including mitogen-activated protein kinase 5 （OsMPK5）, wall-associated kinase 25 （WAK25）, sucrose non-fermenting-l-related protein kinase-1 （SnRK1）, SUBIA binding protein 23 （SAB23）, and several WRKY family tran- scription factors. Emerging evidence suggests that these genes orchestrate crosstalk between biotic and abiotic stresses through a variety of mechanisms, including regulation of cellular energy homeostasis and modification of synergistic and/or antagonistic interactions between the stress hormones salicylic acid, ethylene, jasmonic acid, and abscisic acid.

Present investigation focuses on the fractional conversion of low volatile weakly caking coal(LVWC)under the standard set of operating conditions for *** this purpose,samples of LVWC of different ash content have been collected from Kusunda Area of Bharat Coking Coal *** results were validated using Homogenous and Shrinking Core kinetic models and the suitability of selected samples for gasification was assessed by estimating the activation *** values of activation energy for LVWC samples were obtained in the range of 25.17-44.09 kJ/***,empirical models were developed to correlate the response of interest with the input variables(temperature,residence time and CO_(2) flow rate).The significance of these developed empirical models was checked using analysis of variance(ANOVA).

Optimizing sampling frequency of surface and downhole measurements for efficient stick-slip vibration detection

Drilling vibrations significantly impact drilling operations with high costs due to early downhole equipment failure and loss of productive ***-slip vibrations,a severe form of torsional vibrations,is known to be present up to 50%of total drilling time,making it a topic of immense concern and *** ongoing discussion in the industry is regarding the reliability of surface measurements for early detection of severe downhole bit ***,most surface measurements are sampled at lower frequency rates closer to 1 ***,the implementation of advanced data acquisition modules in downhole subs has greatly improved our understanding of drilling vibrations through high resolution data,sampled up to 10 ***,with a wide range of sampling frequency to choose from different available tools,a critical question remains *** is an optimal and adequate sampling frequency for early detection of downhole vibrations using both surface and downhole measurements?The paper addresses the question with a focus on stick-slip vibrations through an experimental *** slip tests are repeated for different sampling frequencies of surface and downhole measurements and the stick slip index for each case is *** stick-slip index varies for different sampling frequency even though the vibration tests remain completely *** was inferred that sampling frequency of measurements greatly impact the detection of downhole *** though stick-slip vibrations are characteristically low frequency vibrations(2Hz),a minimum of 10Hz sampling frequency is recommended for detection of stick-slip ***,all characteristics of stick-slip vibrations including bit sticking,bit RPM peaks and negative bit RPMs are clearly observed at a minimum of 100Hz sampling rate.

Proactive Connection Recovery Strategy with Recovery Time Constraint for Survivable Elastic Optical Networks

Potential of biocontrol agents against Ganoderma lucidum causing basal stem rot in mesquite(Prosopis cineraria)in arid regions of India

This study investigates the potential of native biocontrol agents(BCAs)as controls against Ganoderma lucidum causing root rot mortality in Indian *** disease is prevalent in sandy soils where trees grow under rainfed *** addition,a beetle namely A canthophorus serraticornis damages the roots,resulting in increasing vulnerability of the host thereby allowing easy of the *** dual culture tests,Ganoderma infected cowpea root bit experiment and compatibility with insecticides revealed that the three BCAs(Trichoderma longibrachiatum,***,and Aspergillus nidulans)significantly inhibited *** mycelial *** highest mycelial growth inhibition(47.6%)was recorded after 96 h followed by 39.8%and 29.3%at 72 and 48 h,respectively,by *** free filtrates of ***,***,and *** were superior in inhibiting mycelium growth.A low concentration(3 ml)of *** was more effective in inhibiting mycelium growth compared to other *** P rosopis julifl ora compost and onion residue compost amendments as food substrates favored the growth of these BCAs,which ultimately reduced the viability of Ganoderma-colonized root bits of *** on compatibility between insecticides and BCAs suggests that ***,harzianum and *** can be combined with phorate or chloropyriphos(both organophosphates)at variable concentrations if amended together for partially infected trees,or as a prophylactic measure in healthy *** studies demonstrate that there is considerable opportunity for using native BCAs against *** in managing root rot disease.

Lucrative pectinase production by novel strain Pseudozyma sp. SPJ with statistical optimization techniques using agro-industrial residues

Production of high titers of an alkaline, extracellular and thermo-tolerant pectinase by a newly isolated yeast Pseudozyma sp. SPJ was carried out under solid state fermentation. Citrus peel, the inexpensive agro-industrial residue used as substrate, was experienced to be unsurpassed. Response surface methodology was conducted to optimize the culture conditions for Pseudozyma sp. SPJ for hyper production of pectinase. Plackett Burman design was applied to identify the most effective culture variables. Out of nine variables studied, incubation time, moisture content and ammonium sulfate were detected as most important. A full factorial Central Composite Design was used to optimize the levels of these variables, which resulted in 17-fold increase （71.19 IU/g to 1215.66 IU/g dry substrate） in the enzyme yield. The results of analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis implies that the effect of incubation time （p 〈 0.000） and moisture content （p 〈 0.018） is more than ammonium sulfate. And also the interaction of moisture content with ammonium sulfate （p 〈 0.002） is more significant.

Effect of polymer and fiber additives on pressure drop in a rectangular channel

The influence of minute amounts of additives on pressure drop is an interesting fundamental phenomenon, potentially with important practical applications. Change of the pressure drop in a quasi-two-dimensional channel flow using various additives is experimentally investigated. Tests were conducted for a wide range of concentrations（100 ppm-500 ppm） and Reynolds numbers（16 000-36 000） with two polymers and four rigid fibers used as additive. Maximum drag reduction of 22% was observed for xanthan gum. However, xanthan gum loses its drag-reducing property rapidly. It was also seen that drag reduction percentage of xanthan gum remains almost constant for different Reynolds numbers. Guar flour demonstrated good drag reduction property at high Reynolds numbers. Drag reduction of 17.5% at Re= 33 200 using 300 ppm solution was observed. However, at low Reynolds numbers guar flour will cause an increase in pressure drop. Fiber fillers（aspect ratio=21） have been tested as well. In contrast to polymers, they increased the drag for the range of examined concentrations and Reynolds numbers. Polyacrylonitrile fiber with three different aspect ratios（106, 200, 400） was also used, which showed an increase in pressure drop at low aspect ratios. Polyacrylonitrile fibers of larger lengths（6 mm） demonstrated minor drag-reducing effects（up to 3%）.

Ethanol steam reforming study over ZSM-5 supported cobalt versus nickel catalyst for renewable hydrogen generation

The renewable hydrogen generation through ethanol steam reforming is one of the anticipated areas for sustainable hydrogen generation. To elucidate the role of Ni and Co with ZSM-5 support, catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and ethanol steam reforming(ESR) was performed. The catalysts were characterized by HR-XRD, ATR–FTIR, HR-SEM, TEM with SAED, EDAX, surface area analyzer and TPR. It had shown complete ethanol conversion at 773 K, but the selectivity in hydrogen generation was found higher for 10% Ni/ZSM-5 catalyst as compared to 10% Co/ZSM-5. The 10% Ni/ZSM-5 catalyst has about 72% hydrogen selectivity at temperature 873 K. It indicates that Ni is a more sustainable catalyst as compared to Co with ZSM-5 support for ESR. The C_2H_4 was found major undesirable products up to 823 K temperature. Nevertheless, the 10% Ni/ZSM-5 catalyst had shown its stability for high temperature(873 K) ESR performance.
