Reliability Analysis of HEE Parameters via Progressive Type-II Censoring with Applications

A new extended exponential lifetime model called Harris extended-exponential(HEE)distribution for data modelling with increasing and decreasing hazard rate shapes has been *** the reliability context,researchers prefer to use censoring plans to collect data in order to achieve a compromise between total test time and/or test sample ***,this study considers both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimates of the Harris extended-exponential distribution parameters and some of its reliability indices using a progressive Type-II censoring *** the premise of independent gamma priors,the Bayesian estimation is created using the squared-error and general entropy loss *** to the challenging form of the joint posterior distribution,to evaluate the Bayes estimates,samples from the full conditional distributions are generated using Markov Chain Monte Carlo *** each unknown parameter,the highest posterior density credible intervals and asymptotic confidence intervals are also *** a simulated study,the usefulness of the various suggested strategies is *** optimal progressive censoring plans are also shown,and various optimality criteria are *** actual data sets,taken from engineering and veterinary medicine areas,are analyzed to show how the offered point and interval estimators can be used in practice and to verify that the proposed model furnishes a good fit than other lifetimemodels:alpha power exponential,generalized-exponential,Nadarajah-Haghighi,Weibull,Lomax,gamma and exponential *** evaluations revealed that in the presence of progressively Type-II censored data,the Bayes estimation method against the squared-error(symmetric)loss is advised for getting the point and interval estimates of the HEE distribution.

Axonal degeneration of the ulnar nerve secondary to carpal tunnel syndrome: fact or fiction?

The distribution of sensory symptoms in carpal tunnel syndrome is strongly dependent on the degree of electrophysiological dysfunction of the median nerve. The association between carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve entrapment is still unclear. In this study, we measured ulnar nerve function in 82 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. The patients were divided into group I with minimal carpal tunnel syndrome （n = 35） and group II with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome （n = 47） according to electrophysiological data. Sixty-one age- and sex-matched subjects without carpal tunnel syndrome were used as a control group. There were no significant differences in ulnar sensory nerve peak latencies or conduction velocities from the 4th and 5th fingers between patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and the control group. The ulnar sensory nerve action potential amplitudes from the 4th and 5th fingers were lower in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome than in the control group. The ratios of the ulnar sensory nerve action potential amplitudes from the 4th and 5th fingers were almost the same in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome as in the control group. These findings indicate that in patients with minimal to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome, there is some electrophysiological evidence of traction on the adjacent ulnar nerve fibers. The findings do not indicate axonal degeneration of the ulnar nerve.

Effective properties of a porous inhomogeneously polarized by direction piezoceramic material with full metalized pore boundaries:finite element analysis

This paper concerns the homogenization problems for porous piezocomposites with infinitely thin metalized pore *** determine the effective properties,we used the effective moduli method and the finite element approaches,realized in the ANSYS *** a simple model of the representative volume,we applied a unit cell of porous piezoceramic material in the form of a cube with one spherical *** modeled metallization by introducing an additional layer of material with very large permittivity coefficients along the pore *** we simulated the nonuniform polarization field around the *** taking this effect into account,we previously solved the electrostatic problem for a porous dielectric material with the same geometric *** this problem,we obtained the polarization field in the porous piezomaterial;after that,we modified the material properties of the finite elements from dielectric to piezoelectric with element coordinate systems whose corresponding axes rotated along the polarization *** a result,we obtained the porous unit cell of an inhomogeneously polarized piezoceramic *** the solutions of these homogenization problems,we observed that the examined porous piezoceramics composite with metalized pore boundaries has more extensive effective transverse and shear piezomoduli,and effective dielectric constants compared to the conventional porous *** analysis also showed that the effect of the polarization field inhomogeneity is insignificant on the ordinary porous piezoceramics;however,it is more significant on the porous piezoceramics with metalized pore surfaces.

Anodic voltammetric determination of gemifloxacin using screen-printed carbon electrode

The electrochemical oxidation behavior and voltammetric assay of gemifloxacin were investigated using differential-pulse and cyclic voltammetry on a screen-printed carbon *** effects of pH,scan rates,and concentration of the drug on the anodic peak current were *** of gemifloxacin in Tris-HCl buffer（pH 7.0） exhibited a well-defined single oxidation peak.A differential-pulse voltammetric procedure for the quantitation of gemifloxacin has been developed and suitably validated with respect to linearity,limits of detection and quantification,accuracy,precision,specificity,and *** calibration was linear from 0.5 to 10.0 μM,and the limits of detection and quantification were 0.15 and 5.0 μ*** ranging from 96.26% to 103.64% were *** method was successfully applied to the determination of gemifloxacin in pharmaceutical tablets without any *** present in the tablets did not interfere in the assay.

Review of post-combustion carbon dioxide capture technologies using activated carbon

Carbon dioxide(CO2) is the largest anthropogenic greenhouse gas(GHG) on the planet contributing to the global warming. Currently, there are three capture technologies of trapping CO2 from the flue gas and they are pre-combustion, post-combustion and oxy-fuel combustion. Among these, the post-combustion is widely popular as it can be retrofitted for a short to medium term without encountering any significant technology risks or *** carbon is widely used as a universal separation medium with series of advantages compared to the first generation capture processes based on amine-based scrubbing which are inherently energy intensive. The goal of this review is to elucidate the three CO2 capture technologies with a focus on the use of activated carbon(AC) as an adsorbent for post-combustion anthropogenic CO2 flue gas capture prior to emission to atmosphere. Furthermore, this coherent review summarizes the recent ongoing research on the preparation of activated carbon from various sources to provide a profound understanding on the current progress to highlight the challenges of the CO2 mitigation efforts along with the mathematical modeling of CO2 capture. AC is widely seen as a universal adsorbent due to its unique properties such as high surface area and porous texture. Other applications of AC in the removal of contaminants from flue gas, heavy metal and organic compounds, as a catalyst and catalyst support and in the electronics and electroplating industry are also discussed in this study.

The main objective of this paper is to discuss a general family of distributions generated from the symmetrical arcsine *** considered family includes various asymmetrical and symmetrical probability distributions as special cases.A particular case of a symmetrical probability distribution from this family is the Arcsine–Gaussian *** statistical properties of this distribution including quantile,mean residual life,order statistics and moments are *** Arcsine–Gaussian parameters are estimated using two classical estimation methods called moments and maximum likelihood methods.A simulation study which provides asymptotic distribution of all considered point estimators,90%and 95%asymptotic confidence intervals are performed to examine the estimation efficiency of the considered methods *** simulation results show that both biases and variances of the estimators tend to zero as the sample size increases,i.e.,the estimators are asymptotically ***,when the sample size increases the coverage probabilities of the confidence intervals increase to the nominal levels,while the corresponding length decrease and approach *** real data sets from the medicine filed are used to illustrate the flexibility of the Arcsine–Gaussian distribution as compared with the normal,logistic,and Cauchy *** proposed distribution is very versatile to fit real applications and can be used as a good alternative to the traditional gaussian distribution.

Octreotide ameliorates gastric lesions in chronically mild stressed rats

AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers and possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHODS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable random stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for *** was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 and 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress ***-and microscopical assessments were made,in addition to quantification of plasma corticosterone and gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, and apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) and confirmed ***,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,P<0.001),prostaglandin E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),and caspase-3 activity (2.4±0.14 OD/mg protein,P=0.002).Conversely,CMS mitigated interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%and 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose *** beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%and 9%from CMS,P=0.01)and reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. CONCLUSION:The current investigation provides evidence that exposure to CMS induces gastric ulceration, which was alleviated by administration of octreotide possibly possessing antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-apoptotic actions.

Using the Soft Power 30 Index,this research focusses on assessing the soft power status of the United Arab Emirates(UAE)by exam-ining the elements of its soft power and potential challenges it may face in the *** study conducts in-depth interviews with foreign diplomats and academics based in the UAE and Emirati diplomats and *** data are supplemented with primary and secondary data from governmental and inter-national agencies as well as media *** UAE’s case dem-onstrates that soft power can be consciously developed by any country regardless of its regime type,size,location,and religious or racial background by getting its domestic affairs in order.A country’s domestic success in governance,enterprise,culture,education and digital infrastructure leads to global attraction,which ultimately enhances the image of a country such as the *** eventually creates opportunities for more global partner-ships and engagements in the areas of multilateralism,philan-thropy,peacebuilding,conflict resolution and event ***,these efforts face the following challenges:the threat of widely diffused actions among public and private actors,the financial cost of soft power engagement and projections,the UAE’s lack of a global media platform for shaping global agendas and its increasing use of hard power in response to geopolitical threats which can negatively affect its image.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a very complex disease that causes brain failure,then eventually,dementia *** is a global health problem.99%of clinical trials have failed to limit the progression of this *** risks and barriers to detecting AD are huge as pathological events begin decades before appearing clinical *** for AD are likely to be more helpful if the diagnosis is determined early before the final stage of neurological *** this regard,the need becomes more urgent for biomarker-based detection.A key issue in understanding AD is the need to solve complex and high-dimensional datasets and heterogeneous biomarkers,such as genetics,magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),cerebrospinal fluid(CSF),and cognitive *** an interpretable reasoning system and performing interoperability that achieves in terms of a semantic model is potentially very ***,our aim in this work is to propose an interpretable approach to detect AD based on Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis ontology(ADDO)and the expression of semantic web rule language(SWRL).This work implements an ontology-based application that exploits three different machine learning *** models are random forest(RF),JRip,and J48,which have been used along with the voting *** dataset was used for this *** proposed classifier’s result with the voting ensemble achieves a higher accuracy of 94.1%and precision of 94.3%.Our approach provides effective inference ***,it contributes to a real,accurate,and interpretable classifier model based on various AD biomarkers for inferring whether the subject is a normal cognitive(NC),significant memory concern(SMC),early mild cognitive impairment(EMCI),late mild cognitive impairment(LMCI),or AD.
