Embedding Extraction for Arabic Text Using the AraBERT Model

Nowadays,we can use the multi-task learning approach to train a machine-learning algorithm to learn multiple related tasks instead of training it to solve a single task.In this work,we propose an algorithm for estimating textual similarity scores and then use these scores in multiple tasks such as text ranking,essay grading,and question answering systems.We used several vectorization schemes to represent the Arabic texts in the SemEval2017-task3-subtask-D dataset.The used schemes include lexical-based similarity features,frequency-based features,and pre-trained model-based features.Also,we used contextual-based embedding models such as Arabic Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(AraBERT).We used the AraBERT model in two different variants.First,as a feature extractor in addition to the text vectorization schemes’features.We fed those features to various regression models to make a prediction value that represents the relevancy score between Arabic text units.Second,AraBERT is adopted as a pre-trained model,and its parameters are fine-tuned to estimate the relevancy scores between Arabic textual sentences.To evaluate the research results,we conducted several experiments to compare the use of the AraBERT model in its two variants.In terms of Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE),the results showminor variance between AraBERT v0.2 as a feature extractor(21.7723)and the fine-tuned AraBERT v2(21.8211).On the other hand,AraBERT v0.2-Large as a feature extractor outperforms the finetuned AraBERT v2 model on the used data set in terms of the coefficient of determination(R2)values(0.014050,−0.032861),respectively.

The emergence of the United Arab Emirates as a global soft power: Current strategies and future challenges

Using the Soft Power 30 Index,this research focusses on assessing the soft power status of the United Arab Emirates(UAE)by exam-ining the elements of its soft power and potential challenges it may face in the future.This study conducts in-depth interviews with foreign diplomats and academics based in the UAE and Emirati diplomats and academics.These data are supplemented with primary and secondary data from governmental and inter-national agencies as well as media sources.The UAE’s case dem-onstrates that soft power can be consciously developed by any country regardless of its regime type,size,location,and religious or racial background by getting its domestic affairs in order.A country’s domestic success in governance,enterprise,culture,education and digital infrastructure leads to global attraction,which ultimately enhances the image of a country such as the UAE.It eventually creates opportunities for more global partner-ships and engagements in the areas of multilateralism,philan-thropy,peacebuilding,conflict resolution and event hosting.However,these efforts face the following challenges:the threat of widely diffused actions among public and private actors,the financial cost of soft power engagement and projections,the UAE’s lack of a global media platform for shaping global agendas and its increasing use of hard power in response to geopolitical threats which can negatively affect its image.

The Screening of Diabetes, Obesity and Hypertension Risks Associated with Hepatitis C Within the Egyptian Population in a Community Pharmacy Setting

Background:Diabetes and hypertension have been identified as risk factors for HCV complications in previous studies.This has sparked the interest in the field of prevention by identifying at-risk individuals and increasing investments for screening among pharmacists.The aim of this study was to screen for risk factors,including age,gender,BMI,hypertension,diabetes,and obesity,in Egyptian patients with HCV Methods:A prospective cross-sectional study was carried out from September 2018 to February 2019,with a total of 1,959 medical records collected.By comparing the patients'characteristics,variables related to metabolic risk,and body composition measurements,regression models have been established to determine any confounding factors.Results:The prevalence of HCV antibody was 41.0%in men and 59.0%in women.Among the variables included in the regression analysis,age,BMI,and uncontrolled hypertension were found to have statistically significant associations with diabetes in HCV positive cases(p40 years old with high BMI were found to have significant associations with both,diabetes and hypertension(p40,and DM(p<0.001).Conclusion:HCV infection and metabolic disorders have a closed cycle relationship.Reducing the complications of DM has a promising prospective of limiting the complications of HCV .

Recent advances in thin film composites membranes for brackish groundwater treatment with critical focus on Saskatchewan water sources

Drinking water scarcity is an ever-increasing global concern. This issue appears as a greater threat to the countries with no access to sea water resources or rivers, since their potential water resources are only limited to ground waters only. There are serious concerns with the treatment of ground water resources, including landfill leachates, agricultural contaminations(pesticides,herbicides, and fertilizers), and rural contaminations. Membrane separation has been proved to be the governing technology in water and wastewater treatment plants, as these methods are responsible for more than half of the market share of the world's desalination capacity. This study intends to offer a holistic view of the groundwater contamination with specific focus on Saskatchewan province in Canada, and the recent efforts in the groundwater treatment using thin film composite membrane technology. This study begins with an introduction of the general aspects of ground water and membrane separation, polluting agents, and their sources.It is followed by a discussion of Saskatchewan's groundwater status and various issues.Furthermore, the recent research that became available since 2010 is reviewed in details and the results are summarized with respect to purification efficiency. Different affecting parameters in a groundwater-thin film composite system are synthesized and an in-depth overview is presented.

Vestibular function for children with insulin dependent diabetes using cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials testing

BACKGROUND Healthy vestibular system adjusts balance during static and dynamic conditions.This is important for normal development(standing up and walking).Vestipulopathies(central and peripheral)are common complications of diabetes in adult population.Related studies are scare in children with type 1 diabetes(T1D).AIM To assess saccular function of otolith organ in children with T1D and predictors for its dysfunction.METHODS Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential(cVEMP)was used for objective evaluation.RESULTS The study included 40 patients(boys=15;girls=25).Patients had mean age of 13.63±1.50 years,duration of diabetes of 5.62±2.80 years,frequent attacks of diabetic ketoacidosis(55%)and hypoglycemia(30%),hyperlipidemia(20%),hypertension(12.5%)and peripheral neuropathy(40%).Dizziness was found in 10%.Compared to healthy children(n=25),patients had prolonged cVEMP P1 and N1 latencies and reduced P1-N1 amplitude.Bilateral cVEMP abnormalities were found in 60%(vs 25%for unilateral abnormalities).Higher frequencies and severe vestibulopathies were found with chronic diabetes of>5 years,hemoglobin A1c values>7%,frequent diabetic ketoacidosis and hypoglycemic attacks and presence of dizziness.Regression analyses showed that predictors for prolonged P1 latencies and reduced P1-N1 amplitudes were only chronic diabetes(>5 years){odds ratio(OR)=2.80[95%confidence interval(CI):1.80–5.33],P=0.01;OR=3.42(95%CI:2.82–6.81)}and its severity(hemoglobin A1c>7%)[OR=3.05(95%CI:2.55–6.82),P=0.01;OR=4.20(95%CI:3.55–8.50),P=0.001].CONCLUSION Dysfunction or injury of the saccular macula and its pathways is prevalent in children with T1D.Optimum glycemic control is important to prevent diabetes related vestipulopathies.

Hospital bed capacity across in Tunisia hospital during the first 4 waves of the COVID-19 pandemic:A descriptive analysis

Background:In March 2020,the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic,and Tunisia implemented a containment and targeted screening strategy.The country’s public health policy has since focused on managing hospital beds.Methods:The study analyzed the bed occupancy rates in public hospitals in Tunisia during the pandemic.The evolution of daily cases and nonpharmaceutical interventions(NPI)actions undertaken by the Tunisian Government were also analyzed.The study used 3 indices to assess bed flexibility:Ramp duration until the peak,ramp growth until the peak,and ramp rate until the peak.The study also calculated the time shift at the start and peak of each wave to evaluate the government’s response efficacy.Results:The study found that the evolution of the epidemic in Tunisia had 2 phases.The first phase saw the pandemic being controlled due to strong NPI actions,while the second phase saw a relaxation of measures and an increase in wave intensity.ICU bed availability followed the demand for beds,but ICU bed occupancy remained high,with a maximum of 97%.The government’s response in terms of bed distribution and reallocation was slow.The study found that the most deadly wave by ICU occupied bed was the third wave due to a historical variant,while the fifth wave due to the delta variant was the most deadly in terms of cumulative death.Conclusions:The study concluded that decision-makers could use its findings to assess their response capabilities in the current pandemic and future ones.The study highlighted the importance of flexible and responsive healthcare systems in managing pandemics.

Clinical Stress among Bachelor Nursing Students: A Qualitative Inquiry

Background: Stress has been linked to different life stages. One of those stages is the transition during the college period. Nursing has been identified as one of the challenges that face student, as its deals with human life. In addition, high levels of stress may lead to health problems and academic dissatisfaction. Objective: To explore clinical stressors among nursing students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This study employed a qualitative study design;therefore, the collection of data was employed using semi-structured face-to-face interviews with nursing students. Data were analyzed through the use of content analysis. Results: Analysis of the data identified three categories of students’ stressors during clinical training: the urge to learn, how to learn communication, and the nature of the hospital environment. Conclusion: As this study highlighted the clinical stressors facing nursing students, recommendations for nursing education and clinical environments are mentioned in order to ease the stressors.

In recent times,wireless sensor network(WSN)finds their suitability in several application areas,ranging from military to commercial ones.Since nodes in WSN are placed arbitrarily in the target field,node localization(NL)becomes essential where the positioning of the nodes can be determined by the aid of anchor nodes.The goal of any NL scheme is to improve the localization accuracy and reduce the localization error rate.With this motivation,this study focuses on the design of Intelligent Aquila Optimization Algorithm Based Node Localization Scheme(IAOAB-NLS)for WSN.The presented IAOAB-NLS model makes use of anchor nodes to determine proper positioning of the nodes.In addition,the IAOAB-NLS model is stimulated by the behaviour of Aquila.The IAOAB-NLS model has the ability to accomplish proper coordinate points of the nodes in the network.For guaranteeing the proficient NL process of the IAOAB-NLS model,widespread experimentation takes place to assure the betterment of the IAOAB-NLS model.The resultant values reported the effectual outcome of the IAOAB-NLS model irrespective of changing parameters in the network.

Tailoring nanocomposite membranes of cellulose acetate/silica nanoparticles for desalination

Herein, the fabrication of cellulose acetate (CA) silica-based nanocomposite membranes via the dry-wetphase inversion procedure for water desalination was investigated. The modified and unmodified silicananoparticles (MSNPs and SNPs) were prepared by the sol-gel technique. The effect of the SNPs andMSNPs was investigated on the CA membrane's properties and their performance for water desalination.The CA nanocomposite membranes were characterized to study their structure, hydrophilicity, andmorphology. The fabricated nanocomposite membranes showed hydrophilic surface properties. Theperformance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was measured using a crossflow RO unit at 10 bar(1 bar = 0.1 MPa). The membrane with 10 mg of SNPs enhanced permeate water flux compared to thepristine CA membrane by 1.6 L/(m2·h). The effect of MSNPs on the nanocomposites' performance waslower than their counterpart in the case of adding SNPs. The membrane with 30 mg of MSNPs showedthe highest permeate water flux among other nanocomposite membranes with a value oAQSf 35.7 L/(m2·h)at 24 bar.

Background—Human Gait Recognition(HGR)is an approach based on biometric and is being widely used for surveillance.HGR is adopted by researchers for the past several decades.Several factors are there that affect the system performance such as the walking variation due to clothes,a person carrying some luggage,variations in the view angle.Proposed—In this work,a new method is introduced to overcome different problems of HGR.A hybrid method is proposed or efficient HGR using deep learning and selection of best features.Four major steps are involved in this work-preprocessing of the video frames,manipulation of the pre-trained CNN model VGG-16 for the computation of the features,removing redundant features extracted from the CNN model,and classification.In the reduction of irrelevant features Principal Score and Kurtosis based approach is proposed named PSbK.After that,the features of PSbK are fused in one materix.Finally,this fused vector is fed to the One against All Multi Support Vector Machine(OAMSVM)classifier for the final results.Results—The system is evaluated by utilizing the CASIA B database and six angles 00◦,18◦,36◦,54◦,72◦,and 90◦are used and attained the accuracy of 95.80%,96.0%,95.90%,96.20%,95.60%,and 95.50%,respectively.Conclusion—The comparison with recent methods show the proposed method work better.
