Prevalence of Coinfection Malaria-Covid-19 at the International Hospital Center of Kinshasa during the 3^rd Wave of the Pandemic

Background: Since 2019, Covid-19 pandemic has afflicted the world and countries of Africa. Despite the limited resources, these countries already disturbed by multiple diseases that have not yet been controlled such as malaria, must face this pandemic whose success in the management depends on the early detection of the disease. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of Malaria-Covid-19 coinfection in our environment. Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of patients’ data with Covid-19 infection from May to July 2021 at the International Hospital center of Kinshasa “CHIK”. We collected data and analysis was performed on the sociodemographic parameters, the notion of anticovid-19 vaccination as well as the duration of the symptomatology before the consultation, the clinical manifestations and the laboratory data available while including the data of the thick drop. Results: A total of 84 patients were registered with an average age of 35.23 ± 12.74 years. The male sex was predominant (82.1%). The Indian community was the most affected (44.2%). The average of days elapsed before the consultation of 3.63 days. The anti-Covid-19 vaccination rate was 20.3%. The prevalence of Malaria-Covid-19 coinfection was 29.76%. In coinfected patients, fever and cough were more reported (64%). Regarding biological and inflammatory parameters, 31.8% of coinfected patients had a platelet count less than 150,000 elements/mm3 compared to 11.6% in non-Co-infected (p = 0.046). Conclusion: The Malaria-Covid-19 comorbidity prevalence is high in Malaria endemic country like Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is necessary to make better distinction, to detect early the comorbidity in order to better guide care and not be limited to treating malaria, letting the Covid-19 evolve.

SARS-CoV-2 is an emerging viral pathogen and a major global public health challenge since December of 2019, with limited effective treatments throughout the *** part of the innate immune response to viral infection, type Ⅰ interferons(IFN-Ⅰ) trigger a signaling cascade that culminates in the activation of hundreds of genes, known as interferon stimulated genes(ISGs), that collectively foster an antiviral *** report here the identification of a group of type Ⅰ interferon suppressed genes,including fatty acid synthase(FASN), which are involved in lipid *** of FASN or the addition of its downstream product, palmitate, increased viral infection while knockout or knockdown of FASN reduced *** importantly, pharmacological inhibitors of FASN effectively blocked infections with a broad range of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and its variants of ***, our studies not only suggest that downregulation of metabolic genes may present an antiviral strategy by type Ⅰ interferon, but they also introduce the potential for FASN inhibitors to have a therapeutic application in combating emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

A chemically modified carbon paste electrode (CPE), consisting of 2,2'-[ (1E)- (1,2- phenylenebis (azanylylidene)] bis (methanylylidene)]bis (benzene-1,4-diol) (PBD) and multiwalled carbon nano-tubes (CNTs), was used to study the electrocatalytic oxidation of dopamine using cyclic voltamme-try, chronoamperometry, and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). First, the electrochemical be-havior of the modified electrode was investigated in buffer solution. Then the diffusion coefficient, electrocatalytic rate constant, and electron-transfer coefficient for dopamine oxidation at the sur-face of the PBD-modified CNT paste electrode were determined using electrochemical approaches. It was found that under optimum conditions (pH = 7.0), the oxidation of dopamine at the surface of such an electrode occurred at about 200 mV, lower than that of an unmodified CPE. DPV of dopa-mine at the modified electrode exhibited two linear dynamic ranges, with a detection limit of 1.0 μmol/L. Finally, DPV was used successfully for the simultaneous determination of dopamine, uric acid, and folic acid at the modified electrode, and detection limits of 1.0, 1.2, and 2.7 μmol/L were obtained for dopamine, uric acid, and folic acid, respectively. This method was also used for the determination of dopamine in a pharmaceutical preparation using the standard addition method.

Nature of Black Holes and Space-Time around Them

Based on the Mach’s principle, black holes warp the space time in a way that geodesic for every object which is moving toward black hole starts to bend and object starts to rotate around the black hole. Even light cannot be able to escape from the strong gravitational field of black hole and all the light like paths will warp so as to fall farther to the hole. Before arriving to the Schwarzschild’s Sphere, object faces with length extension because of the difference between amount of tidal forces on the nearest and furthest points of object that take the object apart and after passing the Schwarzschild’s sphere, based on the Special relativity of Einstein, the parts of object face with length contraction. In comparison between strange stars and black holes we conclude that core of strange stars has a temperature and pressure not sufficient for up and down quarks and they turn into strange ones. However, in core of black holes, because of massive stars and hot gases falling into it, they are always in a high temperature and pressure. So they can be made up of up and down quarks. At the Ergo sphere Region of black hole, a particle that gets into it will divide into 2 pieces, one of them falls into the black hole and another gets out of the Schwarzschild sphere very fast and it’s called the black hole radiation. According to the Diagram drawn by R. Rafini and J. Weeler, an object gets out of white hole in past space-time, it can be able to send signals to us and we can receive it but black hole which is located in future space-time, after object enters to the Schwarzschild’s Sphere, the signals it sends won’t be received. In order to reach the third space-time which is like a mirror to our universe, our speed needs to exceed the speed of light to pass the Einstein-Rosen Bridge. As a conclusion, structure of black holes can be made up of up and down quarks and everything falls into the black hole, collapses and turns into a bunch of quarks. Space-time around black holes

Radiological Evaluation of Spinal Instrumentation as Treatment for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, a Single Saudi Center 5-Year Experience

Aim of the Study: The aim of this work is to radiologically evaluate the postoperative outcomes of spinal instrumentation performed as a treatment for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) on 5-year follow up basis, and to correlate with different clinical scenarios. Materials and Methods: One hundred (100) AIS consecutive patients treated with spinal instrumentation were included in this study. The study period was from 2012 to 2017. All patients had radiological evaluations including total spine x-rays, low dose CT scan using Orthopedic Metal Artifact Reduction (OMAR) software and MRI, after obtaining the informed consents and approval of the institution ethical board. Radiological evaluation included Cobb angle measurement assessed pre, postoperatively and at regular intervals within the 5-year period. Results: Of the 100 patients included, 24 were females and 76 were males. The average age at operation was 16.5 years. Sixty seven (67%) patients showed good correction and maintenance of the spinal curves where the mean Cobb angle was 68°?preoperatively and 21°postoperatively, representing a correction rate of 74%. Thirty three (33%) patients showed complications including postoperative infection (13), surgical revision (4), pseudarthrosis (3), neurological deficits (5), screw loosening (7) and complete hardware failure (1);in whom the preoperative mean Cobb angle was 56°compared to the patients with no complications (p = 0.288). In males, there were postoperative complications in 27 out of 76 and in females 5 out of 24, (p = 0.027). The average duration of follow-up was 3.7 years for all cases. Conclusion: Five-year follow up of patients with AIS treated with spinal instrumentation demonstrates good improvement and maintenance of the corrected spinal curves in two thirds of patients, one third showed variable minor and major complications. Low dose CT scan with OMAR provided an effective modality for evaluation.

With every passing day,the demand for data traffic is increasing,and this urges the research community not only to look for an alternating spectrum for communication but also urges radio frequency planners to use the existing spectrum *** sizes are shrinking with every upcoming communication generation,which makes base station placement planning even more complex and *** order to make the next-generation cost-effective,it is important to design a network in such a way that it utilizes the minimum number of base stations while ensuring seamless coverage and quality of *** paper aims at the development of a new simulation-based optimization approach using a hybrid metaheuristic and metamodel applied in a novel mathematical formulation of the multi-transmitter placement planning(MTPP)*** first develop a new mathematical programming model for MTPP that is flexible to design the locations for any number of *** solve this constrained optimization problem,we propose a hybrid approach using the radial basis function(RBF)metamodel to assist the particle swarm optimizer(PSO)by mitigating the associated computational burden of the optimization *** evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed algorithm by simulating the MTPP model with two,three,four and five transmitters and estimating the Pareto front for optimal locations of *** quantitative results show that almost maximum signal coverage can be obtained with four transmitters;thus,it is not a wise idea to use higher number of transmitters in the ***,the limitations and future works are discussed.

BACKGROUND： 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine （MDMA, also known as ＂ecstasy＂） has been shown to exhibit neurotoxic effects on the hippocampus. However, exposure to sub-lethal insults of MDMA has been reported to result in neuroprotection. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effects of MDMA on hippocampal neuronal viability, caspase-3 activity, and mRNA expression of the N-methyI-D-aspartate （NMDA） receptor 2B （NR2B） subunit. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A cytological, in vitro experiment was performed at the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, and Department of Toxicology-Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2008. MATERIALS： MDMA was extracted from ecstasy tablets, which were kindly supplied by the Pharmacology-Toxicology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. METHODS： Hippocampal neurons were isolated from Wistar rats at gestational day 18. Following primary culture, hippocampal neuronal viability was detected by MTT assay. Varying concentrations of MDMA （100-5 000 μmol/L） were used to determine lethal concentration 50 （LC50）, which was around 1 500 μmol/L. Five concentrations of MDMA below 1 500 μmol/L （100, 200, 400, 800, and 1 050 μmol/L） were used for the remaining experiments. After 24 hours of MDMA treatment, NR2B mRNA expression was detected by RT-PCR, and caspase-3 relative activity was determined by colorimetric assay. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Hippocampal neuronal viability, caspase-3 activity, and NR2B mRNA expression. RESULTS： MDMA-induced neurotoxicity in hippocampal neuronal cultures was dose-dependent. In high concentrations （1 000-5 000μmol/L） of MDMA, neuronal viability was decreased. However, with a 500 μmol/L dose of MDMA, neuronal viability was significantly increased （P 〈 0.01）. Low concentrations of MDMA （200 and 400μmol/L） significantly decreased caspase-3 activity （P 〈 0.01）, whereas high concentrations of MDMA significantly increased caspase-3 activity （P 〈 0.01）. NR2B

In vitro scolicidal effect of Satureja khuzistanica(Jamzad)essential oil

Objective:To investigate the scolicidal effect of the Satureja khuzistanica(***) essential oil from aerial parts of this herbal ***:The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation *** chromatography(GC) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS) were employed to determine the chemical composition of the essential *** were collected aseptically from sheep livers containing hydatid *** were exposed to various concentrations of the oil(3,5 and 10 mg/mL) for 10,20,30,and 60 *** of protoscolices was confirmed by 0.1%eosin ***:A total of 19 compounds representing 97.6%of the total oil,were ***(94.9%) was found to be the major essential oil *** activity of *** essential oil at concentration of 3 mg/mL was 28.58,32.71,37.20 and 42.02%,*** essential oil at concentration of 5 mg/ mL killed 51.33,66.68,81.12,and 100%.of protoscolices after 10,20,30 and 60 min,respectively. One hundred scolicidal effect was observed with *** essenlial oil at the concentration of 10 mg/mL after 10 min(comparing with 7.19%for control group).Conclusions:The essenlial oil of *** is rich in carvacrol and may be used as a natural scolicidal agent.

Tamper Detection and Localization for Quranic Text Watermarking Scheme Based on Hybrid Technique

The text of the Quran is principally dependent on the Arabic ***,improving the security and reliability of the Quran’s text when it is exchanged via internet networks has become one of the most difcult challenges that researchers face ***,the diacritical marks in the Holy Quran which represent Arabic vowels(i,j.s)known as the kashida(or“extended letters”)must be protected from *** cover text of the Quran and its watermarked text are different due to the low values of the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR),and Normalized Cross-Correlation(NCC);thus,the location for tamper detection accuracy is *** gap addressed in this paper to improve the security of Arabic text in the Holy Quran by using vowels with *** enhance the watermarking scheme of the text of the Quran based on hybrid techniques(XOR and queuing techniques)of the purposed *** methodology propose scheme consists of four phases:The rst phase is *** is followed by the second phase where an embedding process takes place to hide the data after the vowel letters wherein if the secret bit is“1”,it inserts the kashida but does not insert the kashida if the bit is“0”.The third phase is an extraction process and the last phase is to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme by using PSNR(for the imperceptibility),and NCC(for the security of the watermarking).Experiments were performed on three datasets of varying lengths under multiple random locations of insertion,reorder and deletion *** experimental results were revealed the improvement of the NCC by 1.76%,PSNR by 9.6%compared to available current schemes.

Interleukin-12 as a Genetic Adjuvant Enhances Hepatitis C Virus NS3 DNA Vaccine Immunogenicity

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection is a worldwide health problem, and numerous efforts have been invested to develop novel vaccines. An efficient vaccine requires broad immune response induction against viral proteins. To achieve this goal, we constructed a DNA vaccine expressing nonstructural 3 (NS3) gene (pcDNA3.1-HCV-NS3) and assessed the immune response in C57BL/6 mice. In this study, the NS3 gene was amplified with a nested-reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method using sera of HCV-infected patients with genotype 1a. The resulting NS3 gene was subcloned into a pcDNA3.1 eukaryotic expression vector, and gene expression was detected by western blot. The resultant DNA vaccine was co-administered with interleukin-12 (IL-12) as an adjuvant to female C57BL/6 mice. After the final immunizations, lymphocyte proliferation, cytotoxicity, and cytokine levels were assessed to measure immune responses. Our data suggest that co-administration of HCV NS3 DNA vaccine with IL-12 induces production of significant levels of both IL-4 and interferon (IFN)-γ (p<0.05). Cytotoxicity and lymphocyte proliferation responses of vaccinated mice were significantly increased compared to control (p<0.05). Collectively, our results demonstrated that co-administration of HCV NS3 and IL-12 displayed strong immunogenicity in a murine model.
