Nanocomposite Electrospun Scaffold Based on Polyurethane/Polycaprolactone Incorporating Gold Nanoparticles and Soybean Oil for Tissue Engineering Applications

Electrospun nanofibers combined with a wide range of functional additives can be used for a various tissue engineering applications due to their desired biomimetic and physicochemical ***,the present study was conducted to obtain a highly efficient nanocomposite electrospun scaffold with appropriate physicochemical performance and biological properties based on Polycaprolactone/Polyurethane(PCL/PU)mixed with gold nanoparticles(GNPs)and soybean oil(SO).In the present study,the desired nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning PCL/PU mixed solution with GNPs and *** nanocomposite electrospun PU/PCL/SO/GNP nanofibers were characterized in terms of chemical composition by attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR),morphological structure by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),and mechanical and biological *** surface topography and wettability were determined by atomic force microscopy(AFM)and water contact angle measurements,*** was found that the presence of GNPs along with SO in the structure of PCL/PU nanofiber created a smoother surface in terms of surface roughness and also a more homogeneous fibrous *** addition,it was observed that both SO and GNPs caused an increase in the electrical conductivity of the fibrous *** the biocompatibility evaluations by measuring cell viability and cell adherence to the scaffold's surfaces,it was found that adding of SO and GNPs supports *** together,the fabricated nanocomposite fibrous scaffolds can be a potential candidate for various tissue engineering purposes.

Rectal administration of d-alpha tocopherol for active ulcerative colitis:A preliminary report

AIM: To investigate the anti-oxidant and anti-neutrophil recruitment effects of rectal d-alpha (d-α) tocopherol administration on mild and moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS: Fifteen patients with mild and moderately active ulcerative colitis were enrolled in an open-label study of d-α tocopherol enema (8000 U/d) for 12 wk. All patients were receiving concomitant therapy with 5-aminosalicylic acid derivatives (5-ASA) and/or immunomodulator medications. Endoscopic evaluation was performed at baseline and after 4th and 12th weeks. Disease activity was measured with the Mayo disease activity index (DAI) and remission was defined as DAI of ≤ 2 with no blood in stool. Clinical response was defined as a DAI reduction of ≥ 2. RESULTS: At the end of 12th week,the average DAI score significantly decreased compared to the beginning of the study (2.3 ± 0.37 vs 8 ± 0.48,P < 0.0001). One patient was withdrawn after 3 wk for being unavailable to follow-up. On the 4th week of therapy,12 patients showed clinical response,3 of whom (21.4%) achieving remission. After 12 wk,all 14 patients responded clinically to the therapy and remission was induced in 9 of them (64%). No patient reported adverse events or was hospitalized due to worsened disease activity. CONCLUSION: This preliminary report suggests that rectal d-α tocopherol may represent a novel therapy for mild and moderately active UC. The observed results might be due to the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties of vitamin E.

A new method for estimating the longevity and degradation of hotovoltaic systems considering weather states

The power output of solar photovoltaic （PV） systems is affected by solar radiation and ambient temperature. The commonly used evaluation techniques usually overlook the four weather states which are clear, cloudy, foggy, and rainy. In this paper, an ovel analytical model of the four weather conditions based on the Markov chain is proposed. The Markov method is well suited to estimate the reliability and availability of systems based on a continuous stochastic process. The proposed method is generic enough to be applied to reliability evaluation of PV systems and even other applications. Further aspects investigated include the new degradation model for reliability predication of PV modules. The results indicate that the PV module degradation over years, failures, and solar radiation must be considered in choosing an efficient PV system with an optimal design to achieve the maximum benefit of the PV system. For each aspect, a method is proposed, and the complete focusing methodology is expounded and validated using simulated point targets. The results also demonstrate the feasibility and applic- ability of the proposed method for effective modeling of the chronological aspects and stochastic characteristics of solar cells as well as the optimal configuration and sizing of large PV plants in terms of cost and reliability.

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)refers to a group of disorders characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal(GI)*** elevated levels of nitric oxide(NO)in serum and affected tissues;mainly synthesized by the inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)enzyme;can exacerbate GI inflammation and is one of the major biomarkers of GI *** natural and synthetic agents are able to ameliorate GI inflammation and decrease iNOS expression to the extent comparable with some IBD ***,the purpose of this study was to gather a list of natural or synthetic mediators capable of modulating IBD through the NO *** databases including Google Scholar and PubMed were searched from 1980 to May *** found that polyphenols and particularly flavonoids are able to markedly attenuate NO production and iNOS expression through the nuclear factorκB(NF-κB)and JAK/STAT signaling *** and probiotics can also alter the GI microbiota and reduce NO expression in IBD models through a broad array of mechanisms.A number of synthetic molecules have been found to suppress NO expression either dependent on the NF-κB signaling pathway(i.e.,dexamethasone,pioglitazone,tropisetron)or independent from this pathway(i.e.,nicotine,prednisolone,celecoxib,β-adrenoceptor antagonists).Co-administration of natural and synthetic agents can affect the tissue level of NO and may improve IBD symptoms mainly by modulating the Toll like receptor-4 and NF-κB signaling pathways.

目的:探讨大荨麻提取物对高胆固醇血症大鼠血脂的影响。方法:雄性大鼠口服高胆固醇饮食(10mL/kg)4周,制备高胆固醇血症大鼠模型。造模同时灌服100、300mg/kg大荨麻提取物或10mg/kg洛伐他汀。观察大荨麻提取物对大鼠血脂、肝功能和肝脏病理的影响。结果:100、300mg/kg大荨麻提取物可以明显减少高胆固醇血症大鼠血总胆固醇和低密度脂蛋白胆固醇含量,并可以降低丙氨酸氨基转移酶(alanine aminotransferase,ALT)和天冬氨酸氨基转移酶(aspartate aminotransferase,AST)活性。苏木精和伊红染色显示,100mg/kg大荨麻提取物组肝脏组织未见明显脂肪变性,细胞形态与对照组相似;300mg/kg大荨麻提取物组肝脏组织可见到中等程度的脂肪变性。结论:大荨麻提取物可能通过降低血浆胆固醇含量和血浆ALT、AST活性治疗大鼠高胆固醇血症。

Modeling forest fires in Mazandaran Province, Iran

We used a spafio-temporal shot-noise Cox process to study the distribution of forest fires reported between 2006 and 2010 in the Mazandaran Province＇s forests. The fitted model shows that daily temperature, altitude, and slope-exposure impacted fire occurrence. Forest fire occurred in the region had an aggregated behavior, which increased in radius below 1-km away from fired areas; a periodic pattern of fire occurrence in the region was verified. The risk of forest fire is significantly higher for areas with southern exposure and slope between 30° and 50°, northern exposure and slope between 0° and 50°, and eastern exposure and slope between 0° and 30°. The risk of fire was also significantly higher at altitudes between 1350 and 3000 m asl. Human causes were the main ignition source for forest fires in the region. The fire occurrence rate stayed above average during the drought period from September 2008 to September 2009. Our findings could lead to the development of fire-response and fire-suppression strategies appropriate to specific regions.
