Clinical profile of brucellosis from a tertiary care center in southern India

Objective:To highlight the spectrum of clinical manifestations,labs,complications,treatment and outcome of ***:Retrospective study was conducted in Kasturba Medical College,Manipal University,Karnataka,India which included 68 confirmed cases of brucellosis from January 2006- April *** of brucellosis was made by culturing the sera/body fluids by standard BACTEC method(or) by testing the sera for Brucella agglutinins using the standard agglutination test(SAT).A titer of 1:320 or more was considered as *** 16 was used for statistical analysis and Microsoft Excel for graphical ***:Of the 68 patients,46(68%) were male and 22(32%) were female patients with age distribution of 9-75 *** four(64.7%) had history of contact with unpasteurized dairy products or infected *** included fever(68,100%),myalgia(21,31%),musculoskeletal symptoms (23,34%),headache(16,24%),gastrointestinal symptoms(19,28%) and altered sensorium(3, 4%).Co-morbidities and associations included HIV positivity(2,3%),type 2 diabetes mellitus (13,19%),steroid therapy(3,4%) and HBsAg positivity(8,12%).Ten(15%) patients had cervical lymphadenopathy,4(6%) had splenic enlargement,6(7%) had hepatomegaly,19(28%) had hepatosplenomegaly and 2(3%) got meningeal *** was observed in 39(57.3%) cases,high erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR) was present in 55(80.8%) cases,leucocytosis in 10(14.7%),leucopenia in 10(14.7%),thrombocytopenia in 23(33.82%) and thrombocytosis in 2(2.94%) ***:In countries like India,where brucellosis and tuberculosis are endemic;rapid,sensitive and highly specific diagnostic methods are required to make early diagnosis and prevent resistance as there is an overlap in therapy.

Integration for coexistence？ Implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana from the perspective of service users and providers

OBJECTIVE： In spite of the World Health Organization＇s recommendations over the past decades, Ghana features pluralistic rather than truly integrated medical system. Policies about the integration of complementary medicine into the national health care delivery system need to account for individuallevel involvement and cultural acceptability of care rendered by health care providers. Studies in Ghana, however, have glossed over the standpoint of the persons of the illness episode about the intercultural health care policy framework. This paper explores the health care users, and providers＇ experiences and attitudes towards the implementation of intercultural health care policy in Ghana. METHODS： In-depth interviews, augmented with informal conversations, were conducted with 16 health service users, 7 traditional healers and 6 health professionals in the Sekyere South District and Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Data were thematically analysed and presented based on the a posteriori inductive reduction approach. RESULTS： Findings reveal a widespread positive attitude to, and support for integrative medical care in Ghana. However, inter-provider communication in a form of cross-referrals and collaborative mechanisms between healers and health professionals seldom occurs and remains unofficially sanctioned. Traditional healers and health care professionals are skeptical about intercultural health care policy mainly due to inadequate political commitment for provider education. The medical practitioners have limited opportunity to undergo training for integrative medical practice. We also find a serious mistrust between the practitioners due to the ＂diversity of healing approaches and techniques.＂ Weak institutional support, lack of training to meet standards of practice, poor registration and regulatory measures as well as negative perception of the integrative medical policy inhibit its implementation in Ghana. Lithium polymer batteries(LPBs) rely on a high ion transport to gain improved cell *** and porous gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs) have attracted much attention due to their excellent properties in electrolyte wettability and ionic *** this work,iron-nickel-cobalt trimetal Prussian blue analogue(PBA) nanocubes are filled into the electro spun polyacrylonitrile(PAN)-based membranes to generate GPE composites with morphological superiority consisting of fine fibers and interconnected *** thus obtained PBA@PAN fibrous membrane showcases good thermal stability,high porosity and electrolyte uptake,as well as a peak io nic conductivity of 2.7 mS/cm with the addition of 10% PBA,Consequently,the assembled lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO_(4)) battery using PBA@PAN-10 as the GPE delivers a high capacity of 152.2 mAh/g at 0.2 C and an ultralow capacity decay of0.09% per cycle in a long-te rm cycle life of 350 cycles at 1 C,endorsing its promising applications in LPBs.

Melioidosis is an unusual tropical infectious disease caused by the gram-negative bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei,which was formerly known as Pseudomonas pseudomallei. Melioidosis is characterized by abscess formation and it may manifest in any part of the human body,however,musculoskeletal melioidosis is uncommon and chest wall melioidosis is very rare. To determine the exact organism based solely on clinical presentation poses a great challenge to the ***,delay administration of antibiotic may be *** describe a diabetic patient who had anterior chest wall melioidosis that mimics Staphylococcus aureus infection.A description of his presentation and management,along with a review of literature is presented.

Nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide（NrGO）sheets decorated with Co（OH）;nanoflakes were prepared by a single-step hydrothermal *** morphological and structural characterizations of as synthesized Nr GO@Co（OH）;nanoflakes were performed by field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）,EDX-mapping and X-ray diffraction（XRD）.Nr GO@Co（OH）;nanoflakes modified glassy carbon electrode（GCE）was used for electrochemical sensing of dopamine in neutral *** nanocomposite modified electrode showed enhanced electrochemical sensing ability for the detection of dopamine and the limit of detection（Lo D）was found to be 0.201μM with a sensitivity value of 0.0286±0.002 m A m M;.Interference studies revealed that Nr GO@Co（OH）;─GCE endow excellent selectivity for DA detection even in the presence of higher concentration of common co-existing physiological interfering ***,proposed sensor demonstrated excellent performance in urine samples with promising reproducibility and stability.

Recently,the isomerization of light naphtha has been increasingly significant in assisting refiners in meeting sternness specifications for *** process provides refiners with the advantage of reducing sulfur,olefin,and benzene in the gasoline basin without significantly victimizing the *** mathematical modeling of a chemical reaction is a critical tool due to it can used to optimize the experimental data to estimate the optimum operating conditions for industrial *** paper describes light naphtha isomerization reactions over a Pt/Al_(2)O_(3)-Cl catalyst at the Al-Dura Oil Refinery(Baghdad,Iraq)using a newly developed universal mathematical *** proposed kinetic model involves 117 isomerization reactions and 90 cracking reactions to describe 52 real components graded from methane to n-octane.A Genetic Algorithm stochastic optimization technique applied in MATLAB R2020a software was employed to estimate the optimal set of kinetic *** calculated activation energies for hydrocracking reactions was found to be higher than the other reactions because of hydrocracking reactions occur at higher range of *** benchmarking between the experimental and theoretical results for all 117 data sets,the mean absolute error was obtained to be 0.00360 for all 52 ***,a positive effect of increasing reaction temperatures was recognized on enhancing the research octane number(RON).
