Nursing Practice in Recovery Room: A Case of Kibuye Hope Hospital and Mutoyi Hospital

Background: Nursing care in the recovery room is oriented to take into account the patient’s condition after surgery intervention with its main purpose of providing direct and continuous patient observation in emergence from general or regional anesthesia. In the absence of professional assistance, patients can develop complications that can lead them into shock or death. This study aims to understand the place of nurses in guiding nursing care in recovery room in two hospitals of Gitega Province by assessing the nurse’s knowledge and attitudes for the promotion of quality nursing care for post-operative patients. Methods: A cross sectional study design was used to assess the practice of nurses in managing nursing care in the recovery room in these two hospitals. A purposive sampling method was used to select the 82 nurses working in the recovery room for these two hospitals and Alain Bouchard’s formula was used to calculate the sample size. Data were collected using a self-report method involving questionnaire completion with five components addressing participants identifications, factors related to the work organization, factors related to the work environment, factors related to healthcare system, and nursing interventions in recovery room. Results: Findings revealed a significant lack of knowledge among the participants and their attitudes were slightly poor as for most of the variables of factors related to healthcare system as their score was less than 50% and their knowledge for nursing interventions was also poor as most of variable scores were less than 25%. Conclusions: The study findings were slightly poor as their scores were less than 50% in most of the variables;therefore, it was recommended that in-service training and workshops should be organized by these healthcare facilities for the purpose of empowering the nurse’s knowledge and practice. Partial epilepsies, originating in a specific brain region, affect about 60% of adults with epilepsy. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most prevalent subtype within this category, often necessitating surgical intervention due to its refractoriness to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Hippocampal sclerosis, a common underlying pathology, often exacerbates the severity by introducing cognitive and emotional challenges. This review delves deeper into the cognitive profile of TLE, along with the risk factors for cognitive disorders, depression, and anxiety in this population.

Optimization and Validation of a Simple Spectrophotometric Based DPPH Method for Analysis of Antioxidant Activity in Aerated, Semi-Aerated and Non-Aerated Tea Products

In this study, the simple DPPH UV-spectrophotometric analytical procedures were optimized and validated for the estimation of antioxidant properties in aerated, semi-aerated and non-aerated tea products as per the AOAC guidelines. The method was found to be simple, rapid, accurate and economical in estimating antioxidant properties in the different tea products. A (0.0100 ± 0.0001) g well ground tea sample was extracted directly in 80% v/v methanol in distilled water. The precision of the method had an RSD% of 1.695 with a linear relation equation of Y = 200.7X + 5.25 (r2 = 0.997). The method proved to be a reliable and effective tool in analysis of anti-oxidant properties in varied tea cultivars and their processed products.

An Investigation of Lighting Levels and Sleep Quality

Sleep quality in young adults is compromised. Instead of the recommended 7 hours, young adults’ schedule interruptions disturb sleep to a typical six and a half hours, with common disturbances in falling asleep and staying asleep. Recent literature has identified an association between academic performance, negative mood state and low activity level in young adults with sleep disturbances. Young adulthood is a time for the installation of sleep health. Both individual and schedule impositions to the young adults’ sleep schedule are to be modified to obtain Sleep Health. Recent research has identified daytime light effects on sleep such as blue light from electronics as alerting and low level light for relaxation. The aim of this study was to identify sleep quality effects with varying light exposures. It was hypothesized that bright (>450 lux) light conditions would be considered focusing and low light (<220 lux) would be considered calming. We hypothesized that sleep quality would improve by 5% with the introduction of a calm light condition. Undergraduates from a small midwestern university were invited to participate in the study in exchange for a gift card. Six participants completed the study, two males, four females all between 21 - 24 years old. Both hypotheses were supported by qualitative analysis.

Barley chitinase genes expression revamp resistance against whitefly (Bemisia Tabaci) in transgenic cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Background Chitinase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes chitin,a major component of the exoskeleton of insects,including plant pests like *** present study aimed to investigate the expression of chemically synthesized barley ch1 and chi2 genes in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum)through Agrobacterium-mediated ***-five putative transgenic cotton plants were obtained,out of which fifteen plants successfully survived and were shifted to the *** gene-specific primers,amplification of 447 bp and 401 bp fragments confirmed the presence of the ch1 and chi2 genes in five transgenic cotton plants of the T0 *** five plants were further evalu-ated for their mRNA expression *** T0 transgenic cotton plants with the highest mRNA expression level and better yield performance in field,were selected to raise their subsequent *** The T1 cotton plants showed the highest mRNA expression levels of 3.5-fold in P10(2)for the ch1 gene and 3.7-fold in P2(1)for the chi2 *** in situ hybridization(FISH)confirmed a single copy number of ch1 and chi2(hemizygous)on chromosome ***,the efficacy of transgenes on whitefly was evaluated through an insect bioassay,where after 96 h of infestation,mortality rates of whitefly were calculated to be 78%–80%in transgenic cotton *** number of eggs on transgenic cotton plants were calculated to be 0.1%–0.12 per plant compared with the non-transgenic plants where egg number was calculated to be 0.90–1.00 per *** Based on these findings,it can be concluded that the chemically synthesized barley chitinase genes(ch1 and chi2)have the potential to be effective against insects with chitin exoskeletons,including *** transgenic cotton plants expressing these genes showed increased resistance to whiteflies,resulting in reduced egg numbers and higher mortality rates.
