Diabetes mellitus(DM)could negatively affect patients’health via inducing a lot of serious functional hazards in many tissues’cells at molecular ***,many scientists had proposed stem cell therapy being an appropriate alternative treatment protocol for numerous health threatening issues including ***,the current study was designed to investigate the antioxidant potentiality of two MSCs types in alleviating tissues’oxidative stress dramatic elevation resulting as a consequence of Type 1 DM *** our 4 weeks study,animals were divided into four groups:control group,STZ-diabetic group(D),D+AD-MSCs group and D+BM-MSCs *** reported that diabetic rats treated with either AD-MSCs or BM-MSCs exhibited a marvelous body tissues(Pancreas,Liver and Kidney)enhancing capabilities in attenuating the oxidative stress status;as evidenced by XO,ROS,and MDA levels down-regulation;with a general concomitant elevation in the antioxidants’content;evidenced by many enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants up-regulation;relative to the diabetic untreated ***,comparing both treatments with each other and to control group,most of the measured parameters were reverted back to near normal levels after AD-MSCs injection;which clearly point out their stunning health benefits and superiority as anti-diabetic agent in overcoming different tissues’complications;owing to their marked cytoprotective and regenerative potentialities.

The activity concentration of natural radioactivity for soil samples collected from western and mid Libyan regions were measured using HPGe detector. The average activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K for ten regions was found to be 51.86 ± 7.14, 75.56 ± 10.95 and 128.98 ± 6.88 Bq/kg respectively. The results obtained for the corresponding nuclides 226Ra and 232Th are above the worldwide average values (35 and 30 Bq/kg) while 40K was smaller than worldwide average (400 Bq/kg). The average outdoor absorbed dose and the annual effective dose rates due to 226Ra, 232Th and 40K were observed to be 21.51 ± 2.93 nGy/h and 0.297 ±.03 mSv/y respectively, which are lower than world average values (60 nGy/h and 0.8 mSv/y). The radium equivalent activity and external hazard indices were found less than the world wide average values.

A Retrospective Study of Ovarian Sex Cord Stromal Tumors at the Egyptian National Cancer Institute

Background: Ovarian sex cord-stromal tumors are an uncommon heterogeneous group of tumors with different biological behaviors and clinico-patho- logic aspects. Aim of the Work: This study will review the clinico-pathologic aspects of sex-cord stromal ovarian tumors at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo University, Egypt, as well as their management and follow-up regarding disease free survival and overall survival. Patients and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the National Cancer Institute Cairo University, Egypt on female patients with ovarian sex cord stromal tumors in the period from January 2008 to December 2012 with a follow-up period of 24 to 84 months. The age of the patients, different clinical presentations, radiological findings, associated uterine bleeding (need for endometrial biopsy), pre-operative CA125 levels, surgical management done, different histopathological types, different biological behaviors, presence of ascites (and its correlation with the histopathology), Adjuvant chemotherapy (according to biological behavior and pathological type), and follow-up of non-benign cases for up to 84 months will all be documented and studied. Results: The mean age at presentation was 47.34;abdominal pain and mass were the commonest presentations 54.5% and 53.2% respectively;the main radiologic findings were a pelvic mass +/- ascites which had no correlation to the pathological type (p = 0.075). Endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma were associated with 22% and 2.5% of cases respectively. Stages I and II represented 95% of patients with non-benign tumors (48 patients). Panhysterectomy +/- infracolic omentectomy or fertility sparing surgery were done in 70.1% and 29.9% of patients respectively. AGCTs were the commonest pathological type (49.4%). The nitriding behavior of cold rolled Fe93Ni4Ti3 specimens was compared with that of hot rolled specimens of the same materials. Radio frequency (rf) nitriding was performed for 10 minutes in a 10-2 mbar nitrogen atmosphere. The continuous plasma power was varied from 300-550 W in steps 50 W or less. Results of optical microscopy (OM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and microhardness measurements (Hv) are presented and discussed with regard to the influence of kind rolling on the nitriding behavior, particularly nitride formation and nitride layer growth on mechanical properties. The results show a remarkable increase of nitrogen diffusivity and microhardness of cold rolled nitride samples. These best results may be attributed to enhancement of the defect and/or a compressive stress.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic disorder that is chronic in nature and difficult to treat. RA presents in many variants. Here we present an interesting case only seldom described before. Our patient presented to emergency room with acute shortness of breath and was seen to have acute pulmonary edema. Patient later had urgent echocardiography which revealed severe mitral regurgitation from ruptured anterior leaflet. Patient was taken for heart valve replacement and was found to have RA nodule on ruptured leaflet. There are cases involving aortic valve but to our knowledge there are no reports of RA nodule on mitral leaflet.

Background: The formation of kidney stones is considered a complicated process. Consequently, there are many questions about the link between kidney stones formation and level of salivary uric acid and calculus formation on the teeth surfaces. Objectives: To evaluate the correlation between the level of salivary uric acid and kidney stones formation and their influence on dental calculus and periodontal status among Saudi patients aged 25 - 70 years. Materials and Methods: 120 Saudi male patients were examined (60 of Kidney stones patients and 60 patients of non-kidney stones patients) for clinical evaluation of plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), calculus index of oral hygiene (CI) and clinical attachment loss (CAL). Moreover, lab assessment of uric acid level in the collected salivary samples was done. The findings were analyzed using of ANOVA test and Tukey’s test. Results: There were statistically significant differences in clinical parameters among kidney stones patients and non-kidney stones patients (p Conclusion: At the end of this study, we concluded that there was a relationship between dental calculus formation, kidney stones formation, and an increase in the level of salivary uric acid.

Totally Endoscopic (Thoracoscopic and Laparoscopic) Radical Esophagectomy with Gastric Tube Reconstruction through a Small Neck Incision: An Early Experience with Thirty Egyptian Patients

Background: Minimally invasive esophagectomy nowadays is replacing the classic open technique. Additional studies are needed to confirm its safety and efficacy. Methods: thirty patients with esophageal carcinoma were enrolled in this study. Patients were evaluated preoperatively and they underwent thoracoscopic and laparoscopic procedures for assessment of resectability. Resectablepatients underwent radical esophagectomy with gastric tube reconstruction through a four-cm neck incision. Results: 17 patients were operable and 13 patients were inoperable. The mean operative time for the whole procedure was 5.97 ± 1.66 hours. The mean blood loss was 250 ± 138.07 cc. The mean overall hospital stay was 17.47 ± 5.49 daysdays. Common postoperative complications included pneumonia (13.3%) pleural effusion (6.7%), cervical anastomotic leakage (10%), and wound infection (13.3%). One patient died in the early postoperative period. Conclusions: we conclude that totallyendoscopic (thoracoscopic and laparoscopic) esophagectomy is feasible and relatively safe technique. Beside its efficacy as an assessment tool, total esophagectomy and lymphadenectomy could be performed in the same time.

Study Objectives: Stroke is a major neurological disease significantly threatening the human health and life with a high morbidity, disability, and mortality. Post-stroke depression (PSD) is one of the common complications of stroke. PSD has been a major factor hindering the recovery of neurological functions and daily activities in stroke patients and is closely related to the social avoidance and increased mortality of stroke patients. Although antidepressant drug treatment has improved during the last decades, symptoms in about 20% of the patients are not in remission two years after initiation of pharmacological intervention. Nowadays, non-invasive brain stimulation;techniques;transcranial direct current stimulation (tCDS) has gained an important interest in the treatment of many neuropsychiatric disorders which might be of some help in treatment of PSD. The goal of the current study is to evaluate the beneficial short term role of tDCS on post-stroke depression. Study Design: This was a randomized double blind placebo-controlled clinical trial included forty hemiparetic patients with post-stroke depression from outpatient clinic of Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University, in the period between June 2018 to June 2019. All patients diagnosed as having a PSD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Depression was evaluated by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) pre and post treatment and quality of life was evaluated by the Stroke Specific Quality Of Life scale (SS-QOL). Patients were assigned randomly into two groups: the study group A and the control group B. Both groups received antidepressant medication in addition to physical therapy program. Group A received tCDS for 30 minutes, three times per week for one month, while the group B received sham transcranial direct current stimulation. Properties of Titanium Oxynitride Prepared by RF Plasma

Titanium oxynitrides combine the properties of metallic oxides and nitrides. In this presentation, titanium was oxynitrided using inductively coupled RF plasma in a gas mixture containing 80% N2 and 20% O2. The effect of plasma-processing power from 350 up to 550 W on microstructure, mechanical, tribological, wettability and electrochemical properties of the oxynitrided titanium was examined using different characterizations and testing techniques. The results demonstrated the formation of TiO, TiO2 rutile phase, TiNxOy and Ti2N as a result of plasma oxynitriding. The micro-hardness of the oxynitrided layers increases up to 766 HV0.1 as the plasma-processing power increases up to 550 W. The wear and corrosion resistance are improved for oxynitrided titanium in comparison with untreated samples. Moreover, the friction coefficient decreases from nearly 0.75 for the pure titanium to nearly 0.3 for oxynitrided titanium. The obtained data show an increase of surface energy and wettability of titanium oxynitride as the plasma power increases. The formation of hard oxide and oxynitride phases and the transformation of TiO2 from anatase to rutile structure at relatively high temperature are the main reasons for the good physical and electrochemical properties of titanium oxynitride.
