Circulating microRNA 9-3p and serum endocan as potential biomarkers for hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND The high mortality rate of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in Egypt is due mainly to the increasing prevalence of hepatitis C virus infection(HCV)and late diagnosis of the ***(miRNA),which regulate tumor proliferation and metastasis in HCC,may serve as a useful diagnostic approach for the early detection of HCC,thus decreasing its ***,endocan is a protein with angiogenic and inflammatory properties that are associated with tumor progression and poor *** To analyze the levels of miRNA 9-3p and endocan in HCV-infected HCC patients and correlate them with clinicopathological *** We compared levels of endocan and circulating miRNA 9-3p from 35 HCVrelated HCC patients to 33 patients with HCV-induced chronic liver disease and 32 age and gender matched healthy controls recruited from inpatient and outpatient clinics of the National Liver Institute,Menoufia University,Egypt in the period from January to March 2021 in a case-control *** samples from all groups were analyzed for *** was measured by enzymelinked immunosorbent assays,and the expression levels of circulating miRNA 9-3p were measured by real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase *** The levels of circulating miRNA 9-3p were significantly lower in the HCC group compared to the chronic liver disease(P<0.001)and control(P<0.001)groups,while levels in the chronic liver disease were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.001).The levels of serum endocan were significantly higher in the HCC group compared to the chronic liver disease(P<0.001)and control(P<0.001)*** miRNA 9-3p and endocan performed better thanα-fetoprotein in discriminating HCC patients from cirrhosis and healthy *** levels of miRNA 9-3p were significantly inversely correlated to vascular invasion(P=0.002),stage of advancement of Barcelona Clinical Liver Cancer(P<0.001)and the metastatic site(P<0.001)of the HCC ***

Influence of bioactive sulphated polysaccharide-protein complexes on hepatocarcinogenesis, angiogenesis and immunomodulatory activities

Diagnostic value of dobutamine stress Doppler tissue imaging in diabetic patients with suspected coronary artery disease

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is often silent in diabetic patients, and it is typically in ad-vanced stages of development by the time it manifests. Various forms of stress testing have been investigated to detect obstructive CAD in diabetes mellitus. Ob-jectives: To assess the diagnostic value of dobutamine stress pulsed-wave Doppler tissue imaging (DTI) compared with standard wall motion analysis in de-tection of myocardial ischemia in diabetic patients with suspected CAD. Methods: The study comprised 46 diabetic patients with suspected CAD underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) with DTI within 4 weeks before coronary angiography(CA). Dobutamine infusion started at 5 μ/kg/min and in-creased up to 40 μ/kg/min with additional atropine during submaximal heart rate responses. In addition to wall-motion score index (WMSI) analysis, pulsed- wave DTI examination of basal and mid segments of posteroseptal, lateral, anterior, inferior and antero- septal walls was performed. Myocardial velocities were measured at rest in the apical 4, 3 and 2-cham- ber views. The measurements were repeated at low dose (10 - 15 μ/kg/min) and at peak stress (40 μ/kg/min). DTI measurements included peak systolic velocity (S), peak early diastolic velocity (E) and peak late diastolic velocity (A) and the results were com-pared to WMSI analysis. Patients were classified into two groups according to CA results;group (I) di-abetics with positive CA (n = 27) and group (II) di-abetics with negative CA (n = 19). Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in duration of diabetes, global WMSI at rest or the ? changes (stress-rest/rest) of WMSI (P > 0.05). Global S and global E were significantly lower in group I compared to group II at peak stress (11.3 ± 3.7 cm/sec vs. 14.5 ± 2.2 cm/sec, p < 0.01) and (11.3 ± 1.6 cm/sec vs. 13.1 ± 2.1 cm/sec, p < 0.01) respectively. Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging of the Benign Hepatic Focal Lesions

Purpose: To determine the role of diffusion weighted MR imaging and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in benign hepatic focal lesions. Method and Materials: This study included 47 patients (29 M, 18 F with mean age of 43 years) with benign hepatic focal lesions. They were cyst (n = 8), hemangioma (n = 23), abscess (n = 5), adenoma (n = 5), focal nodular hyperplasia (n = 4) and nodular regenerative hyperplasia (n = 2). They underwent routine MR imaging and diffusion MR weighted imaging using 1.5 tesla MR unit (Symphony-Siemens). Diffusion MR imaging was done using spin echo type of single shot echo planar imaging (EPI) with b value of 0, 500 & 1000 sec/mm2. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map was reconstructed and ADC value was measured. The mean ADC values correlated with histo-pathological results as well as follow-up imaging results. Results: Adequate ADC maps were obtained in 47 patients. The mean ADC values were 3.4 ± 0.12 × 10-3 mm2/sec in cystic lesion, 2.23 ± 0.08 × 10-3 mm2/sec in hemangioma, 1.94 ± 0.05 × 10-3 mm2/sec in abscess, 1.72 ± 0.07 × 10-3 in focal nodular hyperplasia, 1.65 ± 0.06 × 10-3 mm2/sec in adenoma, 1.62 ± 0.07 × 10-3 mm2/sec in nodular regenerative hyperplasia. The mean ADC values were significantly different within benign hepatic focal lesions (P < 0.001). The differences between the mean ADC values of FNH, adenoma and NRH were not statistically significant (P < 0.23). Conclusion: Diffusion weighted MR imaging is a new imaging modality for diagnosis and characterization of different benign hepatic focal lesions, particularly in patient with renal dysfunction.
