UGT1A1*28 Polymorphism in Advanced Colorectal Cancer: The Story Is Not Yet Ended

Background: UGT1A1*28 polymorphism is associated with neutropenia and diarrhea in previous reports, while this study tried to investigate correlation with other toxicities like vomiting. Patients and Methods: This is a prospective case control study including all eligible cases of advanced colorectal cancer. The genotypes of UGT1A1*28 was assessed in the peripheral blood and/or in tissues by PCR. Patients were divided into two groups, Group 1: patients with no mutation, Group 2: patients with homo or hetero mutation. All patients received standard IFL regimen. Primary objectives were: 1) comparison between the 2 groups as regard vomiting, 2) assessment of the incidence of UGT1A1*28 polymorphism. Secondary objectives were: comparison between the 2 groups as regard: neutropenia, diarrhea, treatment delay, progressive diseases (PD), progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: 46 cases of advanced colorectal cancer present to National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, aged between 19 and 71 years with a median age of 45 years were included and followed up during the period from September 2010 to January 2013 with a median follow-up of 9 months. UGT1A1*28 polymorphism was present in 20 patients (43%), of whom 15% are homozygous. Grade (II-IV) vomiting was found in 8.3% of Group 1 versus 52.5% of Group 2 (P = 0.01). Grade (II-IV) neutropenia was found in 20.8% of Group 1 versus 64.7% of Group 2 (P = 0.03). Grade (II-IV) diarrhea was found in 37.5% of patients of Group 1 and 27.5% of patients with Group 2. (P = 0.75). Treatment delay occurred in 29.16% of Group 1 versus 72.4% of Group 2 (P = 0.02). 25% of Group 1 showed PD versus 25% of Group 2 (P = 0.8). 1-year PFS was 19% in Group 1 versus 23% in Group 2 (P = 0.8) while there was a trend towards better OS in Group 1 (47% versus 35%) (P = 0.07). Conclusions: UGT1A1*28 polymorphism is present frequently (43%) in a Caucasian population and is associated with more vomiting, neutropenia and treatment

The combined effects of farm yard manure and boron application on growth,and oil quality of Canola grown under newly reclaimed soils

Two field experiments were conducted during the main seasons of 2021/2022 at the Research and Production Station of National Research Centre in Egypt to investigate the effects of farmyard manure(FYM)and boron on Canola growth,yield,oil yield,and *** results unequivocally demonstrated that the combined application of FYM at a rate of 14.4 ton ha^(-1)with a foliar spray of boron at 100 ppm positively influenced plant characteristics,leading to enhanced growth rates and higher yields compared to the control ***,this integrated approach significantly improved nutrient content by enhancing levels of oil content,carbohydrates,proteins,phenolics,flavonoids,and total soluble *** findings provide compelling evidence that utilizing farm manure along with boron can effectively enhance Canola properties in newly reclaimed soils while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Bayesian belief-based model for reliability improvement of the digital reactor protection system

The digital reactor protection system(RPS)is one of the most important digital instrumentation and control(I&C)systems utilized in nuclear power plants(NPPs).It ensures a safe reactor trip when the safety-related parameters violate the operational limits and conditions of the *** high reliability and availability of digital RPS is essential to maintaining a high degree of reactor safety and cost *** main objective of this study is to develop a general methodology for improving the reliability of the RPS in NPP,based on a Bayesian Belief Network(BBN)*** structure of BBN models is based on the incorporation of failure probability and downtime of the RPS I&C *** architectures with dual-state nodes for the I&C components were developed for reliability-sensitive analysis and availability optimization of the RPS and to demonstrate the effect of I&C components on the failure of the entire system.A reliability framework clarified as a reliability block diagram transformed into a BBN representation was constructed for each architecture to identify which one will fit the required *** results showed that the highest availability obtained using the proposed method was *** are 120 experiments using two common component importance measures that are applied to define the impact of I&C modules,which revealed that some modules are more risky than others and have a larger effect on the failure of the digital RPS.

Inhibitory effects of methanolic Olea europaea and acetonic Acacia laeta on growth of Babesia and Theileria

Objective:To evaluate the antipiroplasmic activities of methanolic extract of Olea europaea(MOE)and acetonic extract of Acacia laeta(AAL)against Babesia and Theileria parasites in vitro and evaluate the chemotherapeutic effects of these extracts against Babesia(B.)microti in ***:Fluorescence assay using SYBR Green 1 nucleic acid stain was used to detect inhibitory effects of the two extracts as well as the combination effects of the two extracts with diminazene aceturate and atovaquone on four Babesia species and Theileria equi in vitro while for in vivo experiments,8-weekold female BALB/c mice were injected intraperitoneally with 1× 107 ***-iRBCs and treated orally at a dose of 150 mg/kg of both ***:The half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)values of AAL against ***,***,***,***,and Theileria equi were lower than those of MOE *** assay on Madin-Darby bovine kidney,mouse embryonic fibroblast(NIH/3T3),and human foreskin fibroblast cell lines showed that MOE and AAL affected only the viability of Madin-Darby bovine kidney cell line with half maximal effective concentrations(EC50)of(794.7±41.9)and(873.9±17.5)μg/mL,*** oral treatments of MOE and AAL at 150 mg/kg inhibited the growth of *** in mice by 80.4% and 64.4%,*** MOE and diminazene aceturate combination showed a higher chemotherapeutic effect than that of ***:MOE and AAL have the potential to be an alternative remedy for treating ***,the combination therapy of MOE + DA was more potent against *** infection in mice than their monotherapies.

Fault Diagnosis in Distribution Networks with Distributed Generation

The penetration of distributed generation (DG) in distribution power system would affect the traditional fault current level and characteristics. Consequently, the traditional protection arrangements developed in distribution utilities are difficult in coordination. Also, the reclosing scheme would be affected. With the rapid developments in distribution system automation and communication technology, the protection coordination and reclosing scheme based on information exchange for distribution power system can be realized flexibly. This paper proposes a multi-agent based scheme for fault diagnosis in power distribution networks with distributed generators. The relay agents are located such that the distribution network is divided into several sections. The relay agents measure the bus currents at which they are located such that it can detect and classify the fault, and determine the fault location. The proposed technique uses the entropy of wavelet coefficients of the measured bus currents. The performance of the proposed protection scheme is tested through simulation of two systems. The first system is a benchmark medium voltage (MV) distribution system and the second system is practical 66 kV system of the city of Alexandria.

Physical Properties of Nano-Composite Silica-Phosphate Thin Film Prepared by Sol Gel Technique

A series of silica-phosphate nano-composites prepared as a host thin films Physical Properties of Nano-Composite Silica-Phosphate Thin Film Prepared by Sol Gel Technique and doped with different concentrations of Er3+ ions have been synthesized using tetraesoxysilane TEOS, triethylphosphate TEP and erbium nitrate as precursor sources of silica, phosphorus and erbium oxides. The structural properties of pure silica-phosphate thin films and doped with different concentrations of Er3+ ions were studied, using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The morphology of silica-phosphate was characterized by Scanning electron microscope (SEM).
