Pacing profiles and tactical behaviors of elite runners

The pacing behaviors used by elite athletes differ among individual sports,necessitating the study of sport-specific pacing ***,pacing behaviors adopted by elite runners differ depending on race ***“all-out”strategy,characterized by initial rapid acceleration and reduction in speed in the later stages,is observed during 100 m and 200 m events;400 m runners also display positive pacing patterns,which is characterized by a reduction in speed throughout the ***,800 m runners typically adopt a positive pacing strategy during paced“meet”***,during championship races,depending on the tactical approaches used by dominant athletes,pacing can be either positive or negative(characterized by an increase in speed throughout).A U-shaped pacing strategy(characterized by a faster start and end than during the middle part of the race)is evident during world record performances at meet races in 1500 m,5000 m,and 10,000 m *** a parabolic J-shaped pacing profile(in which the start is faster than the middle part of the race but is slower than the endspurt)can be observed during championship 1500 m races,a negative pacing strategy with microvariations of pace is adopted by 5000 m and 10,000 m runners in championship *** cross country and marathon championship races are characterized by a positive pacing strategy;whereas a U-shaped pacing strategy,which is the result of a fast endspurt,is adopted by 3000 m steeplechasers and half *** contrast,recent world record marathon performances have been characterized by even pacing,which emphasizes the differences between championship and meet races at distances longer than 800 *** reviewed suggest further recommendations for *** the whole race,800 m runners should avoid running wide on the *** turn,during major championship events,1500 m,5000 m,and 10,000 m runners should try to run close to the inside of the track as much as possible during t

Leaching kinetics in cyanide media of Ag contained in the industrial mining-metallurgical wastes in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico

The leaching kinetics in cyanide media of the silver contained in the Dos Carlos waste tailings at the City of Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo State, Mexico were carried out. The used material contained the following chemical composition: 56 10-6of Ag, 0.6 10 6of Au and 70.43%(by weight) of SiO2; 7.032%(by weight) of Al2O3; 2.69%(by weight) of Fe; 0.46%(by weight) of Mn; 3.98%(by weight) of K2O; 3.34%(by weight) of CaO; 2.50%(by weight) of Na2O; 0.04%(by weight) of Zn; 0.026%(by weight) of Pb. The mineralogical phases present were the following: Silica, albite, argentite, berlinite, orthoclase, potassium jarosite, and natrojarosite. In the leaching kinetics in cyanide media, and under the studied conditions,the effect of the CN concentration on the reaction rate has no effect on the whole process of alkaline cyanidation, of which the reaction order is n 0. Temperature has an effect on the cyanidation rate of the reaction, with an activation energy of 47.9 KJ/mol. At the same time, when the particle size decreases there is an increase in the reaction rate, which is inversely proportional to the particle diameter; when increasing the NaOH concentration there is an increase in the reaction rate Kexp, with a reaction order(n) of 0.215 under the studied ranges.

Hydrological Processes in a Small Research Watershed under Forest Coverage in the Coast of Chiapas, Mexico

In the hydrological watershed, some natural processes take place in which the interaction of water, soil, climate and vegetation favors the capture of water. The present study aimed to evaluate preliminary information regarding the hydrological response and the water balance in a small research watershed with tropical forest cover (15°01'44''N and 92°13'55''W, 471 m, 2.3 has). Events of precipitation, direct runoff, infiltration rate and baseflow were performed. The amount, duration and intensity of rainfall events were recorded with the use of a pluviograph. Surface runoff was quantified with an established gauging station, an H-type gauging device and a horizontal mechanical gauging limnograph. Runoff base flow was measured at the gauging station using the volume-time method. Infiltration was measured using a triple ring infiltrometer, taking two measurements in the upper part and two in the lower part of the microbasin. Evapotranspiration was measured with the amount of rainfall entering and runoff leaving the watershed. In the study period, annual rainfall of 4417.6 mm distributed over 181 events were recorded;about 70% of the storms showed lower intensities at 20 mm·h-1. The total runoff was 345.8 mm caused by half of the rainfall events, which represents 7.8% of the total rain;77% of runoff events showed lower sheets of 5 mm and an average specific rate of 20.7 L·s-1·ha-1 with a maximum of 113.6 L·s-1·ha-1. Three runoff events were greater than 20.1 mm and caused the 22.5% of the total runoff depth in the study period showing the equilibrium conditions in the hydrological response of the forest. Water outputs like baseflow was 669.5 mm. In this way, 90% of the rainfall is infiltrated every year in the micro-watershed, which shows the importance of the plant cover in the hydrological regulation and the groundwater recharge.

One Decade of Development and Evolution of MicroRNA Target Prediction Algorithms

Nearly two decades have passed since the publication of the first study reporting the discovery of microRNAs （miRNAs）. The key role of miRNAs in post-transcriptional gene regulation led to the performance of an increasing number of studies focusing on origins, mech- anisms of action and functionality of miRNAs. In order to associate each miRNA to a specific functionality it is essential to unveil the rules that govern miRNA action. Despite the fact that there has been significant improvement exposing structural characteristics of the miRNA-mRNA interaction, the entire physical mechanism is not yet fully understood. In this respect, the development of computa- tional algorithms for miRNA target prediction becomes increasingly important. This manuscript summarizes the research done on miRNA target prediction. It describes the experimental data currently available and used in the field and presents three lines of compu tational approaches for target prediction. Finally, the authors put forward a number of considerations regarding current challenges and future directions.

Genetic diversity and relatedness inferred from microsatellite loci as a tool for broodstock management of fine flounder Paralichthys adspersus

Paralichthys adspersus is a native species from the Pacific coast of South America that is of great economic importance for Peruvian *** though establishing sustainable farming depends on avoiding irreversible damage to the population gene pool due to processes such as inbreeding,studies focusing on genetically characterizing farmed stocks are yet to be *** using ten microsatellite loci on captive and wild individuals of ***,we successfully characterized the only commercial broodstock of this species in Peru by means of determining the genetic diversity and inferring *** most microsatellite loci showed deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium,the genetic diversity levels in the commercial broodstock were considered healthy compared to those obtained for a wild population,with an average number of alleles of 17.40,an effective number of alleles of 9.14,and an observed and expected heterozygosity of 0.49 and *** significant differences between the broodstock and the wild population in terms of genetic diversity were *** fixation index and analysis of molecular variance also indicated a low rate of differentiation between both *** relatedness estimation,the analysis based on five method-of-moment estimators and a maximum-likelihood estimator showed the category“unrelated”as being the most probable relationship among the individuals within the commercial *** findings reveal the conservation of genetic diversity in this population and outline potential breeding strategies that hatchery managers could use to minimize the loss of genetic diversity and long-term *** could help establish proper genetic management in captive populations of *** and should apply to other captive stocks where pedigree information is lacking.

Whole lesion histogram analysis of apparent diffusion coefficient predicts therapy response in locally advanced rectal cancer

BACKGROUND Whole-tumor apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)histogram analysis is relevant to predicting the neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy(nCRT)response in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC).AIM To evaluate the performance of ADC histogram-derived parameters for predicting the outcomes of patients with *** This is a single-center,retrospective study,which included 48 patients with *** patients underwent a pre-treatment magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)scan for primary tumor staging and a second restaging MRI for response *** sample was distributed as follows:18 responder patients(R)and 30 non-responders(non-R).Eight parameters derived from the whole-lesion histogram analysis(ADCmean,skewness,kurtosis,and ADC10^(th),25^(th),50^(th),75^(th),90^(th) percentiles),as well as the ADCmean from the hot spot region of interest(ROI),were calculated for each patient before and after *** all data were compared between R and non-R using the Mann-Whitney U *** measures of diagnostic accuracy were applied:the receiver operating characteristic curve and the diagnostic odds ratio(DOR).We also reported intra-and interobserver variability by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC).RESULTS Post-nCRT kurtosis,as well as post-nCRT skewness,were significantly lower in R than in non-R(both P<0.001,respectively).We also found that,after treatment,R had a larger loss of both kurtosis and skewness than non-R(Δ%kurtosis and Δ skewness,P<0.001).Other parameters that demonstrated changes between groups were post-nCRT ADC10^(th),Δ%ADC10^(th),Δ%ADCmean,and ROIΔ%***,the best diagnostic performance was achieved byΔ%kurtosis at a threshold of 11.85%(Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve[AUC]=0.991,DOR=376),followed by post-nCRT kurtosis=0.78×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.985,DOR=375.3),Δskewness=0.16(AUC=0.885,DOR=192.2)and post-nCRT skewness=1.59×10^(-3)mm^(2)/s(AUC=0.815,DOR=168.6).Finally,intraclass corr

Analysis and parameter extraction of memristive structures based on Strukov's non-linear model

Diverse models have been proposed for explaining the electrical performance of memristive devices. In principle, the behavior of internal variables associated to each one could be extracted from experimental results. In a former work, thermally grown TiOmemristive structures were built and characterized to obtain the constitutive relationship(magnetic flux versus charge). The aim of this work is to continue that analysis by determining the microscopic parameters within the frame of a simple model. We use the already obtained memristance dependence of time and the basic expressions from the non-linear model proposed by Strukov et al. to compute the state-variable,the mobility of the doping species, the speed of the boundary between the doped and the undoped regions, the voltages and the electric fields on the distinct regions. The power dissipation and its time evolution are also presented. Moreover, a quite different window function from those formerly proposed, which was estimated from experimental data, is also determined. This information provides a straightforward picture of the ionic transport during one cycle of a square voltage waveform within the framework of this simple model. Finally, a quality factor is proposed as the key parameter for actual memristors viewed under the same model.

Extreme Hyperferritinemia in a Filipino Male Patient with Adult Onset Still’s Disease: A Case Report

Background: Elevated serum ferritin is more commonly due to reactive causes such as infection, hepatic disorders, rheumatologic conditions, and malignancy than true iron overload. Extreme hyperferritinemia (>10,000 ng/mL), on the other hand, should prompt consideration of rare conditions such as adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) or hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. This paper aims to present the case of the highest reported extreme hyperferritinemia (actual level 256,000 ng/mL) in a patient eventually diagnosed with adult onset Still’s Disease (AOSD). Case Presentation: A 55-year-old male, Filipino, was admitted due to acute onset fever and shortness of breath. He was initially assessed to have community-acquired pneumonia and a suspect for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), hence inflammatory markers were requested. Ferritin was notably elevated at 44,255 ng/mL. He eventually tested negative for COVID-19 RT-PCR. He was investigated for other causes of markedly elevated ferritin levels. His complete blood count (CBC) only showed leukocytosis with no peripheral blasts, iron level and liver function tests were normal, HIV immunoassay was negative, ANA was 1:80 speckled with normal complement level, rheumatoid factor negative, and positron emission tomography (PET) scan revealed presence of lymphadenopathies and did not show solid tumors. He was treated for urinary tract infection and pneumonia but still had intermittent fever and increasing ferritin trend, with the highest documented level at 256,000 ng/mL. Fulfilling the Yamaguchi criteria, he was managed as a case of severe AOSD and received tocilizumab. He had lysis of fever and decreasing trend of ferritin levels thereafter, with ferritin level of 34,184 ng/mL three weeks after tocilizumab infusion. He was discharged and improved with prednisone and methotrexate as home medications. Conclusion: To our knowledge, the highest level of extreme hyperferritinemia recorded in literature as of 2016 is 143,931 ng/mL,
