Acute-on-chronic liver failure(AcLF)is a syndrome that occurs in patients with chronic liver disease and is characterized by acute decompensation,organ failure and high short-term *** due to the lack of universal diagnostic criteria,the actual AcLF prevalence remains unclear;nevertheless,it is expected to be a highly prevalent condition *** transplantation is an effective protective measure for selected AcLF *** liver transplantation,diagnosing and treating precipitant events and providing supportive treatment for organ failures are currently the cornerstone of AcLF *** new clinical specific therapies have been researched,more studies are necessary to assess safety and ***,future AcLF management strategies must consider measures to improve access to liver transplantation because the time window for this life-saving therapy is frequently ***,an urgent and global discussion about allocation and prioritization for transplantation in critically ill AcLF patients is needed because there is evidence suggesting that the current model may not portray their waitlist *** addition,while donor organ quality is meant to be a prognostic factor in the AcLF setting,recent evidence suggests that machine perfusion of the liver may be a safe tool to improve the donor organ pool and expedite liver transplantation in this scenario.

Gasification is a thermo-chemical reaction which converts biomass into fuel gases in a *** efficiency of conversion depends on the effective working of the *** first step in the conversion process is the selection of a suitable feedstock capable of generating more gaseous *** paper analyses the performance of different biomasses during gasification through energy and exergy analysis.A quasi-equilibrium model is developed to simulate and compare the feasibility of different biomass materials as gasifier ***-metric studies are conducted to analyze the effect of temperature,steam to biomass ratio and equivalence ratio on energy and exergy *** the biomasses considered,sawdust has the highest energy and exergy efficiencies and lowest *** a gasification temperature of 1000 K,the steam to biomass ratio of unity and the equivalence ratio of 0.25,the energy efficiency,exergy efficiency and irreversibility of sawdust are 35.62%,36.98%and 10.62 MJ/kg,*** is also inferred that the biomass with lower ash content and higher carbon content contributes to maximum energy and exergy efficiencies.

Effect of piperine on the epididymis of adult male rats

Aim： To study the effect of piperine on the epididymal antioxidant system of adult male rats. Methods： Adult male rats were orally administered piperine at doses of 1 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight each day for 30 consecutive days. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment, the rats were weighed and killed with ether and the epididymis was dissected from the bodies. sperm collected from the cauda region of the epididymis was used for the assessment of its count, motility and viability. caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis were separated and homogenized separately to obtain 10 % homogenates. The supernatants were used for the assays of sialic acid, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide generation. Results： Body weight of the piperine-treated rats remained unchanged. The weights of the caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis significantly decreased at dose of 100 mg/kg. Epididymal sperm count and motility decreased at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, and sperm viability decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg. sialic acid levels in the epididymis decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg while significant decrease in the cauda region alone was observed at 10 mg/kg. A significant decline in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, along with an increase in hydrogen peroxide generation and lipid peroxidation were observed at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. conclusion： piperine caused a decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and sialic acid levels in the epididymis and thereby increased reactive oxygen species levels that could damage the epididymal environment and sperm function.

In this paper, we examine the best time to sell a stock at a price being as close as possible to its highest price over a finite time horizon [0, T], where the stock price is modelled by a geometric Brownian motion and the ＇closeness＇ is measured by the relative error of the stock price to its highest price over [0, T]. More precisely, we want to optimize the expression：V^＊=sup 0≤τ≤T E[Vτ/MT],where （Vt）t≥0 is a geometric Drownian motion with constant drift α and constant volatility σ 〉 0, Mt = max Vs 0≤a〈t is the running maximum of the stock price, and the supremum is taken over all possible stopping times 0 ≤ τ≤T adapted to the natural filtration （Ft）t≥0 of the stock price. The above problem has been considered by shiryacv, Xu and Zhou （2008） and Du Toit and peskir （2009）. In this paper we provide an independent proof that when α=1/ 2 σ^2 , a selling strategy is optimal if and only if it sells the stock either at the terminal time T or at the 1 2 moment when the stock price hits its maximum price so far. Besides, when α 〉1/2σ^2 , selling the stock at the terminal time T is the unique optimal selling strategy. Our approach to the problem is purely probabilistic and has been inspired by relating the notion of dominant stopping pr of a stopping time τ to the optimal stopping strategy arisen in the classical ＂secretary problem＂.

The electroosmotic flow of a micropolar fluid in a microchannel bounded by two parallel porous plates undergoing periodic vibration is studied. The equations for conservation of linear and angular momentums and Gauss＇s law of charge distribution are solved within the framework of the Debye-Hückel approximation. The fluid velocity and microrotation are assumed to depend linearly on the Reynolds number. The study shows that the amplitude of microrotation is highly sensitive to the changes in the magnitude of the suction velocity and the width of the microchannel. An increase in the micropolar parameter gives rise to a decrease in the amplitude of microrotation. Numerical estimates reveal that the microrotation of the suspended microelements in blood also plays an important role in controlling the electro-osmotically actuated flow dynamics in microbio-fluidic devices.

Aim: Epididymal proteins are known to play an important role in the maturation of spermatozoa, we ought to deter-mine if there are regional differences in androgen-dependent epididymal proteins. Methods: A group of adult rats wascastrated and epididymides were removed three days following castration. The epididymides were dissected into caput,corpus and cauda segments, homogenized, and proteins were fractionated by anion exchange HpLc. proteins in select-ed fractions were resolved by sDs-pAGE and visualized by silver staining. Results: It was observed that the levels ofmultiple proteins drastically reduced in the various regions of epididymis of the orchiectomized rats. conclusion: Theepididymal proteins appear to be useful markers to study androgenic action in the epididymis.
