Cognitive screening for adult psychiatric outpatients: Comparison of the Cognivue® to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment

In this editorial we comment on the article by Cahn-Hidalgo D published in a recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry 2020;10(1);*** focus on the importance of utilizing psychometrically valid cognitive screening tools when assessing for cognitive decline in older adults in a psychiatric outpatient *** compared the use of Cognivue®to use of the montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA)as a cognitive screening tool.A total of 58 patients aged 55 and over participated in this comparison *** completed cognitive screening on Cognivue®,a new food and Drug Administration-cleared computer screening device,and the *** results of patient performance using these two instruments were ***(28%)patients screened negative for cognitive impairment on both ***-two(72%)patients screened positive on one or both of the *** was 43%agreement between Cognivue®and the MoCA in identifying patients with cognitive impairment,and individual subtests were weakly *** MoCA was determined to be the preferred instrument due to its high sensitivity and specificity(100%and 87%,respectively)when screening for cognitive *** propose that the use of Cognivue®cognitive screening tool be closely reviewed until more research proves that the test meets the standards for reliability and *** is important for clinicians to remember that screeners should not be used to diagnosis patients with neurocognitive disorders;instead,they should be used to determine whether further evaluation is ***,misdiagnosing of neurocognitive disorders can pose unnecessary psychological and emotional harm to patients and their families and also lead to incorrect treatment and undue healthcare costs.

for quenching of age hardenable aluminium alloys today predominantly aqueous quenching media are used, which can lead due to the Leidenfrost phenomenon to a non-uniform cooling of the parts and thus to thermal stresses. Particularly at thin-walled or complex shaped parts local plastic deformations can occur by the uneven thermal stresses. In relation to the conventional quenching procedures in aqueous media, gas quenching exhibits a number of technological, ecological and economical advantages. In comparison to liquid quenching media, gas does not change its phase during quenching. Moreover, the cleaning problem of the parts can be avoided. The quenching intensity can be adjusted by the variable parameters gas pressure and gas speed as well as the kind of gas and thus can be adapted to the requirements of the alloy. By the higher uniformity and the better reproducibility, gas quenching offers a high potential to reduce distortion. The goal of these investigations is to clarify, if the cooling rate during gas quenching is sufficient to obtain the specific required strength after age hardening of the alloy Al-7Si-0.3Mg. for this purpose different tests in high-pressure gas quenching facilities, gas nozzle fields and water quenching baths were performed.

Distributional Considerations for Transboundary Risk Governance of Environmental Threats

Most policy analyses of both short-term and long-term disasters focus on aggregate impacts of their costs and the benefits of policy remedies. Distributional considerations relating to the costs of these disasters and the benefits of their risk management, however, are very important in many cases. This article examines two broad categories of cases in terms of distributional considerations. The first category is where transboundary considerations strongly affect risk governance, as in the case of climate change. The second relates to ordinary, short-term disasters, which include fewer, but still important, transboundary issues. Climate change policy requires information regarding the distribution of impacts and policy responses across countries because it is a global *** disasters involve transboundary considerations much less frequently, so the attention typically shifts to the distribution of benefits and costs within a jurisdiction. In both cases distributional information is needed to evaluate the equity of policies and to provide information for public participation in the policy process. This article offers modeling and policy approaches to address these issues.

Backscattered electron BSE-CL images,U-Th abundance,and U-Pb ages were obtained for zircons from the Nkogho granitic basement rocks cropping out in the Mamfe Basin(SW Cameroon).These data are used to characterize and classify each zircon,elucidate their geochemical *** were also used to formulate a model of their host composition to ascertain the source,and document any preserved postemplacement *** zircons mainly form long to short prisms that are pyramidal to dipyramidal in *** typically exhibit complex oscillatory growth zoning,as well as exhibit sector *** features are mainly compatible with igneous zircons,although a few examples have metamorphic *** U(30 ppm–6380 ppm),Th(4 ppm–1280 ppm),and Pb(12 ppm–648 ppm)contents show core to rim variations with most values fall within the range of crustal granitic *** Th/U ratios(0.08–1.23),with core to rim differences mainly encompass values typical of magmatic zircons with a few values characterizing metamorphic zircons that grew in equilibrium with an anatectic *** U-Pb ages(108.4±1.7 to 988.4±19.0 Ma)with some core and rim age differences date Early Neoproterozoic,Cryogenian–Ediacarian,Early Cambrian–Ordovician,Devonian–Carboniferous,and Aptian–Albian *** arc-like Nkogho I-type granitoid crystallized from granitic magma during Cryogenian to Ediacarian times and was later affected by post-Ediacarian Cambrian to Albian magmatic ***–Albian ages probably reflect opening of the Mamfe Basin.

Improved tabledng behavior of paracetamol in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone additive: Effect of mixing conditions

Monoclinic paracetamol (PA) is notorious as a poorly compactible model drug. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) is a polymer that can act as an effective binder to improve the mechanical properties of PA. It is surprising however that the role of mixing conditions on the physicochemical and mechanical properties of PA-PVP mixtures has not been reported previously. The results of this work showed that PA-PVP mixtures containing 5%(w/w) PVP prepared using high energy mixing conditions had considerably smaller particle size distributions and higher cohesivities than mixtures prepared using low energy mixing conditions. Solid-state analysis did not detect any change in the monoclinic crystalline form of PA after mixing with PVP. The following rank order of tabletability for PA-PVP mixtures was obtained according to the mixing condition: low shear-medium shearf hydrogen bonding was detected in the mixtures prepared via high energy mixing conditions than in those prepared using low energy mixing conditions. Mixing is therefore a critical process that needs to be optimized during the preparation of in teractive mixtures for tableting.

Size specific boldness associated with differences in resource requirements and habitat use: a cross-sectional study in hermit crabs

Animal personality is often studied within compressed periods of observation that represent narrow windows in comparison to animal *** much is known about the relations between repeatable personality traits and cross-situational behavioral plasticity,less is known about how such traits might differ across age classes or life history *** conducted a cross-sectional study of startle response duration in 3 size classes of Pagurus bernhardus,the common European hermit *** defined size classes using transitions in the preferred species of gastropod shells that accompany growth,and this change in preference is in turn associated with a transition from intertidal to subtidal *** with small-and medium-sized intertidal individuals the larger subtidal hermit crabs behaved cautiously by showing startle responses of greater duration following *** responses were also repeatable within all 3 size classes,confirming the presence of animal personality in intertidal hermit crabs and demonstrating that this pattern is retained within the largest size classes,which have undergone the transition from intertidal to subtidal ***,there was a trend for the pattern of repeatable startle response durations to increase with size class,with the highest value for repeatability and the greatest range of startle response durations being present within the large subtidal *** greater range of startle responses indicates that the longer startle response durations in some larger individuals are more likely due to developmental changes with age and habitat use than reflecting selection against the boldest individuals during earlier stages of life.

A Reduced-form Rapid Economic Consequence Estimating Model:Application to Property Damage from U.S. Earthquakes

Modeling the economic consequences of disasters has reached a high level of maturity and accuracy in recent years. Methods for providing reasonably accurate rapid estimates of economic losses, however, are still limited. This article presents the case for “reduced-form” models for rapid economic consequence estimation for disasters, and specifies and statistically estimates a regression equation for property damage from significant U.S. earthquakes. Explanatory variables are of two categories:(1) hazard-related variables pertaining to earthquake characteristics;and(2) exposure-related variables pertaining to socioeconomic conditions. Comparisons to other available earthquake damage estimates indicate that our Reduced-form Model yields reasonably good results, including several statistically significant variables that are consistent with a priori hypotheses. The article concludes with a discussion of how the research can be enhanced through the collection of data on additional variables, and of the potential for the extension of the reduced-form modeling approach to other hazard types.

Developing a platform to evaluate and assess the security of wearable devices

Operating in a body area network around a smartphone user, wearables serve a variety of commercial, medical and personal uses. Depending on a certain smartphone application, a wearable can capture sensitive data about the user and provide critical, possibly life-or-death, functionality. When using wearables, security problems might occur on hardware/software of wearables, connected phone apps or web services devices, or Bluetooth channels used for communication. This paper develops an open source platform called SecuWear for identifying vulnerabilities in these areas and facilitating wearable security research to mitigate them. SecuWear supports the creation, evaluation, and analysis of security vulnerability tests on actual hardwares. Extending earlier results, this paper includes an empirical evaluation that demonstrates proof of concept attacks on commercial wearable devices and shows how SecuWear captures the information necessary for identifying such attacks. Also included is a process for releasing attack and mitigation information to the security community.
