Phytoplankton Productivity and Hydrology in an Impacted Estuarine Complex in Northeastern Brazil

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the productive capacity of the phytoplankton community and other environmental variables in the estuarine area of Suape;while considering the constant morphological, sedimentological and hydrological changes, the site has been facing due to the implementation and expansion of an industrial and port complex. The study comprised 6 campaigns: 3 in the dry season and 3 in the rainy season. Water samples were collected from the surface layer of the internal and external portions of the estuarine bay during low spring tides. The salinity ranged from 32.20 to 37.10, the water temperature ranged from 26.60°C to 29.40°C, and the oxygen saturation rate ranged from 58.5% to 114.5%. There was significant seasonal variation. The nitrite concentration was higher during the rainy season, whereas the ammonia concentration was higher during the dry season;the higher ammonia concentration helped increase chlorophyll-a levels and rates of primary productivity, which ranged from 0.02 - 2.45 mg·m−3 and from 0.34 to 4.32 mg·C·m−3·h−1, respectively. Chlorophyll-a a-containing biomass, and this reflected the low nutrient content in the water and indicated that the area was free from eutrophication processes. The decrease of rainfall during the sampling months and the anthropogenic changes in the environment led to reduced continental contributions, increased marine interference, nutrient dilution and loss of phytoplankton production capacity in Suape Bay, which severely damaged other trophic links in the ecosystem.

In this contribution,we reply to comments made by Tkach et *** our publication *** 2023;9:*** main interest of our work is to synthesize a lead-free material,SrTi_(2)O_(5)(STO),and then utilize it in the formation of composites and finally design the piezoelectric nanogenerator(PENG)for self-powered sensor *** authors have observed the presence of piezoelectric voltage and current output from the *** authors humbly indicate that the PENG devices were poled using a DC poling setup as conditions mentioned in *** 2023;9:609(Panda et al.,2023)[1].The doping of STO into the PDMS increased from 2% to 20%(in mass).In this process,the piezoelectric output of the PENG device was observed to be highest for 15%(in mass)STO-PDMS ***,we agree with the comment raised by Tkach et al.,and further we have addressed the issues in a step-by-step response as follows.

Moral Falsity in the Eyes of the Superhuman： The Cases of Socrates and Mozi1

Both Socrates and Mozi are said in Plato＇s dialogues and in the Mozi respectively to have claimed that they are living a sort of life following superhuman ＂intention＂： Socrates according to the Delphic oracle, and Mozi the intention of heaven. Some modern philosophers show discomfort with their ＂superstitious＂ attitudes, taking the claims literally as a kind of groundless devotion, while others conjecture ＂sensible＂ purposes to understand the mystic elements as providing moral lessons. This paper, by responding to these modern revisions of their doctrines, aims at highlighting the necessity of their （re-）introductions of superhuman perspectives to their inquiries. Through examining the similarities in Plato＇s and Mohists＇ demonstrations, the suggestion made will be that despite countless incommensurable features, heaven＇s intention for Mohists offers a fundamental philosophical basis which enables them to develop arguments by means of sharp dichotomies, what is right or wrong, in the same way that Socrates in the Apology and in the Hippias Minor does for the development of Plato＇s constructive endeavour beyond his Socratic a/euporetic legacy. Not only are their practices dependent on the presupposition of the existence of a perspective beyond humans, but also the reality of that perspective is established though their own investigative practices.

Simplification of vacuole structure during plant cell death triggered by culture filtrates of Erwinia carotovora

Vacuoles are suggested to play crucial roles in plant defense-related cell death. During programmed cell death, previous live cell imaging studies have observed vacuoles to become simpler in structure and have implicated this simplification as a prelude to the vacuole＇s rupture and consequent lysis of the plasma membrane. Here, we examined dynamics of the vacuole in cell cycle-synchronized tobacco BY-2 （Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Bright Yellow 2） cells during ceil death induced by application of culture filtrates of Erwinia carotovora. The filtrate induced death in about 90% of the cells by 24 h. Prior to cell death, vacuole shape simplified and endoplasmic actin filaments disassembled; however, the vacuoles did not rupture until after plasma membrane integrity was lost. Instead of facilitating rupture, the simplification of vacuole structure might play a role in the retrieval of membrane components needed for defense-related cell death.

Cost of treating chronic hepatitis B:Comparison of current treatment guidelines

AIM:To compare program costs of chronic hepatitis B(CHB) screening and treatment using Australian and other published CHB treatment ***:Economic modeling demonstrated that in Australia a strategy of hepatocellular cancer(HCC) prevention in patients with CHB is more cost-effective than current standard care,or HCC *** upon this model,we developed the B positive program to optimize CHB management of Australians born in countries of high CHB *** estimated CHB program costs using the B positive program algorithm and compared them to estimated costs of using the CHB treatment guidelines published by the AsianPacific,American and European Associations for the Study of Liver Disease(APASL,AASLD,EASL) and those suggested by an independent United States hepatology *** used a Markov model that factored in the costs of CHB screening and treatment,individualized by viral load and alanine aminotransferase levels,and calculated the relative costs of program *** were discounted by 5% and calculated in Australian dollars(AUD).RESULTS:Using the B positive algorithm,total program costs amount to 13 979 224 AUD,or 9634 AUD per *** least costly strategy is based upon using the AASLD guidelines,which would cost 34% less than our B positive *** the EASL and the United States Expert Group guidelines would increase program costs by 46%.The largest expenditure relates to the cost of drug treatment(66.9% of total program costs).The contribution of CHB surveillance(20.2%) and HCC screening and surveillance(6.6%) is small-and together they represent only approximately a quarter of the total program ***:The significant cost variations in CHB screening and treatment using different guidelines are relevant for clinicians and policy makers involved in designing population-based disease control programs.

Desired Lifestyle of Older Adults with Dementia Living at Home from Their Perspective and That of Their Families with Support from Care Providers

Objective: This study aimed to determine the lifestyle of older adults with dementia living at home, how their families perceive them, and how care providers support their desired lifestyle. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 pairs of older adults with dementia, their families, and care providers followed by a qualitative descriptive study. Results: Older adults with dementia described their lifestyle as follows: “I continue to take pride in the way I have lived so far,” “I want to do what I can now even if I cannot do it well,” “I live peacefully with my family,” “I go out and interact with people,” and “I live this time today with care.” Families regarded the lifestyle of older adults with dementia as a desire “to continue living at home peacefully,” “to live on their own,” and that they “probably do not want anything.” Care providers’ support was based on “respect (for an older adult with dementia) as a person,” “drawing out and making use of what they can do with their current abilities through providing care,” “supporting families and confirming their sense of satisfaction with life,” and “predicting the future course and supporting decision-making.” Conclusions: To support the lifestyle of older adults with dementia, it is important to ensure that they continue to have dignity and are comfortable living with their families and in their communities without intimidation.

Comparative study: Vonoprazan and proton pump inhibitors in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

AIMTo compare the effectiveness and safety of vonoprazan-based therapy with proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-based therapies to treat Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).METHODSWe retrospectively analysed data from first-line (vonoprazan or PPI with 200 mg clarithromycin and 750 mg amoxicillin twice daily for 7 d) (n = 1353) and second-line (vonoprazan or PPI with 250 mg metronidazole and 750 mg amoxicillin twice daily for 7 d) (n = 261) eradication treatments for H. pylori -positive patients with associated gastrointestinal diseases from April 2014 to December 2015 at Hattori Clinic, Japan. The primary endpoint was the eradication rate, which was assessed with a full analysis set. The secondary endpoints were adverse events and related *** the first-line treatments, the eradication rates for vonoprazan, esomeprazol, rabeprazole, and lansoprazole were 87.9% (95%CI: 84.9%-90.5%), 71.6% (95%CI: 67.5%-75.5%), 62.9% (95%CI: 52.0%-72.9%), and 57.3% (95%CI: 50.4%-64.1%), respectively. The vonoprazan eradication rate was significantly higher than that of the PPIs (P < 0.01). Interestingly, smoking did not affect the H. pylori eradication rate in the vonoprazan group (P = 0.34), whereas it decreased the rates in the PPI groups (P = 0.013). The incidence of adverse events in the vonoprazan group was not different from the PPI group (P = 0.054), although the vonoprazan group exhibited a wider range of adverse events. Vonoprazan-based triple therapy was highly effective as a second-line treatment, with an eradication rate similar to that of PPI-based *** might be superior to PPIs in first-line H. pylori therapy, particularly for smokers. However, caution is required due to possible adverse events.

A New ＂Community＂ Organization Approach for Elderly Persons with Multiple Mental Disorders

This article presents a case study for the ＂community＂ approach to social work. It is the case of an elderly client whose social adaptation level had multiple problems associated with weakened networks at a higher rate area of seniors in Japan. Specifically, the ＂community＂ approach adopted here was the Refined Short-term Reconstructing Meaningful Life-worlds （RSRM）, which defines ＂community＂ as a circular system of speech acts and meaning construction. This social constructionist approach is shown to improve the client＇s adaptation level in the ＂community＂ where a differentiation force is activated using circular questions. This force allows the client to make beneficial life-worlds. The RSRM also has a concrete intervention procedure. First, the client, who was in her eighties with depression, delusional disorder, slight dementia, and urination neurosis, was encouraged to tell her problematic story. To differentiate speech acts in her ＂community＂, circular questions, positive reframing and solution-focused skills were used. Then she was encouraged to practice her newly acquired speech acts in her ＂community＂. She regained the ability to communicate with other persons with confidence, and she could extend the ＂community＂ networks to practice her newly acquired communication skills. Through her practices in her extended ＂community＂, her multivariate problems were resolved.
