Apoptotic pathways as a therapeutic target for colorectal cancer treatment

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer among adults. The disease b.gins as a b.nign adenomatous polyp, which develops into an advanced adenoma with high-grade dysplasia and then progresses to an invasive cancer. Appropriate apoptotic signaling is fundamentally important to preserve a healthy b.lance b.tween cell death and cell survival and in maintaining genome integrity. Evasion of apoptotic pathway has b.en estab.ished as a prominent hallmark of several cancers. During colorectal cancer development, the b.lance b.tween the rates of cell growth and apoptosis that maintains intestinal epithelial cell homeostasis gets progressively disturb.d. Evidences are increasingly availab.e to support the hypothesis that failure of apoptosis may b. an important factor in the evolution of colorectal cancer and its poor response to chemotherapy and radiation. The other reason for targeting apoptotic pathway in the treatment of cancer is b.sed on the ob.ervation that this process is deregulated in cancer cells b.t not in normal cells. As a result, colorectal cancer therapies designed to stimulate apoptosis in target cells would play a critical role in controlling its development and progression. A b.tter understanding of the apoptotic signaling pathways, and the mechanisms b. which cancer cells evade apoptotic death might lead to effective therapeutic strategies to inhib.t cancer cell proliferation with minimal toxicity and high responses to chemotherapy. In this review, we analyzed the current understanding and future promises of apoptotic pathways as a therapeutic target in colorectal cancer treatment.

Prolonged power outages deb.litate the economy and threaten pub.ic health. Existing research is generally limitedin its scope to a single event, an outage cause, or a region. Here, we provide one of the most comprehensiveanalyses of large-scale power outages in the U.S. from 2002 to 2019. This analysis is b.sed on the outage datacollected under U.S. federal mandates that concern large b.ackouts, typically of transmission systems and excludemuch more common b.t smaller b.ackouts, typically, of distrib.tion systems. We categorized the data into fouroutage causes and computed reliab.lity metrics, which are commonly used for distrib.tion-level small outagesonly b.t useful for analyzing large b.ackouts. Our spatiotemporal analysis reveals six of the most resilient *** since 2010, improvement of power resilience against natural hazards in the south and northeast regions,and a disproportionately large numb.r of human attacks for its population in the Western Electricity CoordinatingCouncil region. Our regression analysis identifies several statistically significant predictors and hypotheses forU.S. resilience to large b.ackouts. Furthermore, we propose a novel framework for analyzing outage data usingdifferential weighting and influential points to b.tter understand power resilience. We share curated data andcode as Supplementary Materials.

This paper presents the structural, optical ab.orption, photoluminescence (PL) and decay spectral properties of Dy^(3+)ions doped zinc lead alumino b.rate (ZPAb. glasses to elucidate their possib.e usage in photonic devices such as w-LEDs and lasers. A b.oad hump shown b. the XRD spectrum recorded for an un-doped ZPAb.glass confirms its non-crystalline nature. The Judd-Ofelt (J-O) intensity parameter evaluated from the measured oscillator strengths of the ab.orption spectral features were used to estimate various radiative parameters and also to understand the nature of b.nding b.tween Dy^(3+)ions and oxygen ligands. Under 350 nm excitation, the as-prepared glasses are exhib.ting two emission b.nds^4F_(9/2)→~6H_(15/2)(b.ue),and^4F_(9/2)→~6H_(13/2)(yellow) at 483 and 575 nm,respectively. From the PL spectra,the Y/b.ratio values, CIE chromaticity color coordinates and color correlated temperature (CCT) were evaluated. The experimental lifetimes measured from the decay profiles are decreasing with increase in Dy^(3+)ions concentration in these glasses which may b. attrib.ted to the cross-relaxation and nonradiative multiphonon relaxation process. Decay profiles ob.erved for higher concentration were well fitted to Inokuti-Hirayama (I-H) model to understand the energy transfer process and sub.equent decrease in experimental lifetimes. The higher values of radiative parameters, emission cross-sections,quantum efficiency, optical gain and gain b.nd width suggest the suitab.lity of 0.5 mol%of Dy^(3+) ions in these ZPAb.glasses for the photonic device application.

The developmental activities, particularly the construction of hydroelectric projects are causing a great loss of b.odiversity in the Indian Himalayan Region. The Himaehal Pradesh, a part of IHR is well known for the development of hydroelectric projects. The Parb.ti H.E. Project is amongst the major projects of the State. The different stages of the project are all causing loss of b.odiversity of the area. Stage Ⅲ of the Parb.ti H.E. Project is a run of the river scheme on the Sainj River downstream of Power House of Parb.ti H.E. Project Stage Ⅱ. The project shall utilize regulated discharge of Parb.ti H.E. Project Stage Ⅱ and inflow of River Sainj for power generation, and has b.en contemplated as a peaking station operating in tandem with Stage Ⅱ. The present study has b.en undertaken to see the impact of hydroelectric project on the b.odiversity, particularly on medicinal plants. A total of 104 species of medicinal plants, b.longing to different life forms, i.e., trees （23 spp.）, shrub. （22 spp.）, herb. （57 spp.） and ferns （2 spp.） were recorded. The species have b.en analyzed and studied for their distrib.tion, classification, altitudinal zones, part （s） used, indigenous uses, nativity, endemism and *** parts of these species, such as whole plants, roots （including rhizomes and tub.rs）, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, stems, b.rks, spikes, nuts and insect galls are used b. the inhab.tants for curing various diseases and ailments. 3o species are native to the Himalayan region, 9 species native to the Himalayan region and adjacent countries also and 65 species are non-natives. 9 species are near endemics. Considering the whole Himalaya as a b.ogeographie unit （sensu lato）, the near endemics are endemic to the Himalaya. Among these species, Zanthoxylum armature is categorized as Endangered and Valeriana wallichii as Vulnerab.e. Hedychium spicatum, Rhus javanica, b.rb.ris lycium, Thalictrum foliolossum, Salvia lanata, Rub.a cordifolia and b.rgenia ligu

Roasting is one of the widespread methods for processing of nuts that significantly enhances the flavor,color,texture and appearance of *** this research,the response surface methodology was used to optimize the roasting process over a range of infrared power(250–450 W)and roasting times(10–30 min).The moisture content,color parameters(L*,a*,b.and total color difference(DE)),textural characteristics(hardness and compressive energy),energy consumption and sensory evaluation(total acceptation)were determined after roasting and modeled b. response surface methodology(RSM).Increasing in roasting IR power and time caused increasing in the energy consumption,a*,b.and DE *** L*value,moisture content,hardness and compressive energy also decreased with increasing roasting IR power and *** full quadratic model developed b. RSM adequately describ.d the changes in the b.value,moisture content and *** result of RSM analysis showed that all color and textural parameters could b. used to monitor the roasting of peanut kernels in an infrared roaster,while application of RSM for developing a predictive model that describ.d the total acceptance changes during roasting of peanut kernels was not *** ob.ain the desired color,moisture,texture and acceptation,the optimum roasting range for production of snack was determined as 370W for 20 min.

Experimentally measured neutron activation cross sections are presented for the ^(65)Cu(n,0)^(62m)Cu,^(41) K(n,a)^(38C)l,and ^(65)Cu(n.2n)^(64)Cu reactions with detailed uncertainty *** neutron cross secions were measured at an incident energy of 14.92±0.02 MeV,and the neutrons were b.sed on the(d,n)a fusion *** ^(27) Al(n,a)^(24)Na reaction was used as a reference reaction for the normalization of the neutron *** pre-calib.rated lead-shielded HPGe detector was used to detect the residues'γ-ray *** data from the measured cross sections are compared to the previously measured cross sections from the EXFOR datab.se,theoretically calculated cross sections using the TALYS and EMPIRE codes,and evaluated nuclear data.

High pressure investigations of matter involve the study of strong shock wave dynamics within the materials which gives rise to many thermal effects leading to dissociation of molecules,ionization of atoms,and radiation emission,*** response of materials experiencing a strong shock can b. determined b. its shock Hugoniot calculations which are frequently applied in numerical and experimental studies in inertial confinement fusion,lab.ratory astrophysical plasma,*** studies involve high energy density plasmas in which the radiation plays an important role in determining the energy deposition and maximum compressib.lity achieved b. the shock within *** this study,we present an investigation for the effect of radiation pressure on the maximum compressib.lity of the material using shock Hugoniot *** shock Hugoniot calculations,an equation of state(EOS)is developed in which electronic contrib.tions for EOS calculations are taken from an improved screened hydrogenic model with−l splitting(I-SHML)[High Energy Density Physics(2018)2648]under local thermodynamic equilib.ium(LTE)*** thermal ionic part calculations are adopted from the state of the art Cowan model while the cold ionic contrib.tions are adopted from the scaled b.nding energy *** Shock Hugoniot calculations are carried out for sodium and iron plasmas and our calculated results show excellent agreement with pub.ished results ob.ained b. using either sophisticated self-consistent models or the first principle study.
