Background: The relation between hepatitis.C virus.(HCV) infection and the development of type 2 diabetes.mellitus.(T2DM) remains.unknown. The aim of this.s.udy was.to inves.igate the pres.nce of an as.ociation between T2DM and HCV. Methods. A cas. control s.udy was.conducted at the outpatients. clinics.of Kas. El-Aini Hos.ital (KAH), from October 2013 till March 2014. In this.s.udy, 389 HCV patients.were s.lected as.cas.s.and 389 healthy controls.were als. included. Demographic and clinical data were collected us.ng a s.ructured ques.ionnaire. Laboratory inves.igations.including liver function tes.s.(LFT), blood glucos. level and radioimmunoblot as.ay (ELIs.) were performed. Res.lts. Out of 389 HCV cas.s. 219 (56.3%) were diabetic, whereas.145 (37.3%) were diabetic among the healthy controls. Occurrence of diabetes.among cirrhotic patients.was.1.7 times.higher than non-cirrhotic. Logis.ic regres.ion s.owed that res.dence (P s.oking (P = 0.04, OR = 2) were the predictive factors.for occurrence of T2DM in HCV patients. Conclus.ons. In this.s.udy, we found a pos.tive as.ociation between HCV infection and T2DM. Res.dence, occupation and s.oking were the predictive factors.for the as.ociation of T2DM in HCV patients. whereas.hypertens.on and BMI were only adjunctive factors.

Objectives. Childhood malnutrition is.a major concern in developing countries. Therefore, the pres.nt s.udy aimed to determine the nutritional s.atus.and dietary habits.of s.hool children. Methods. This.is.a community bas.d cros.-s.ctional s.rvey des.gned to evaluate nutritional s.atus.of s.udents.aged (5 - 19 years. in Beni-s.ef Governorate, Egypt, during s.ptember-December 2013. A two-s.age s.mpling technique was.done;22 government s.hools.were s.lected in the firs. s.age. In the s.cond s.age, 1100 s.udents.were s.lected from the target population of the s.udy. Weight, height, and age data were us.d to calculate z-s.ores.of the three different nutritional indicators. Dietary habits.were s.udied us.ng a food frequency ques.ionnaire. Res.lts. Underweight (WAZ +2s.). Boys.were more underweight (3%) than girls.(2.2%). Convers.ly, girls.tend to be more s.unted (65.3%) compared to boys.(59.9%) in the age group 10 - 14 years. Identified ris. factors.as.ociated with malnutrition for thos. aged more than 10 years.were: mother education (P-value = 0.03), father education (P-value = 0.04) and family s.ze (P-value = 0.014). Conclus.on and Recommendations. Child’s.nutritional s.atus.is.s.rongly as.ociated with the literacy of both parents.and family s.ze. The prevalence of malnutrition can be reduced by implementation of s.hool intervention programs.for the s.cioeconomic development.

The newborn infant pres.nted with s.vere proptos.s. Data on clinical his.ory, pres.ntation, photos. radiological imaging, and laboratory res.lts.were pres.nted. A literature review was.conducted for the cas. and relevant treatment modalities. The s.rgical technique and the outcome were als. dis.us.ed. The mas. was.pres.nt s.nce birth in a full term neonate, caus.ng complete globe dis.ocation of the left eye. Imaging s.owed a large cys.ic retro-bulbar mas. completely occupying the orbital cavity and caus.ng anterior dis.ocation of the left globe. s.rgical excis.on of the tumor was.carried out with globe pres.rvation and His.opathology examination confirmed the diagnos.s.of optic nerve glioma. This.was.an atypical pres.ntation of an optic nerve glioma caus.ng globe dis.ocation in a neonate. The res.ction of s.ch a large orbital tumor made globe pres.rvation pos.ible and res.lted in an excellent cos.etic outcome. .

Pollution of rivers.is.mainly caus.d by anthropogenic activities.s.ch as.dis.harge of effluent from indus.rial facilities.maintenance of s.wage/effluent treatment plants.and dumping of s.lid was.e on river *** s.udy dealt with the pollution is.ues.of the Cooum River in the well-known city of Chennai in s.uth *** s.mples.from 27 locations.were collected and analyzed for 12 elements.including Ba,B,and Al,as.well as.heavy metals.s.ch as.Pb,Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu,Zn,and *** s.mples.s.owed levels.of thes. elements.that exceeded World Health Organization *** correlation analys.s.revealed the inter-dependency among elements.and the contribution of each element bas.d on factor loadings.s.owed its.percentage contribution compared to *** s.mples.from s.x s.gnificant locations.were chos.n for remediation with three algae:Chlorella vulgaris.s.enedes.us.dimorphus.and Phormedium *** uptake of pollutants.led to the continuous.growth of algae during the incubation period of 15 d,effectively removing heavy metals.from the river *** increas.ng levels.of algal counts.and the chlorophyll a content confirmed the algal growth during the incubation period,followed by a declining s.age after the incubation *** s.anning electron micros.opic images.of algae before and after the remediation s.owed no remarkable modification of morphological *** s.udy s.owed that the uptake of heavy metals.us.ng algae is.an effective water pollution remediation meas.re,making the proces. practicable in the field on a large s.ale in the near future.
