Experimentation of a Forced Convection Solar Dryer for Drying Sweet Potatoes at the Higher Institute of Technology of Mamou-Guinea

This study was carried out at the Mamou Higher Institute of Technology during the period from March 10 to April 15, 2022, with the aim of designing and testing a solar dryer with forced convection by drying potatoes. The dryer was designed using local materials. Its main geometric parameters are: 1) height of the drying chamber (90 cm), 2) length of the drying chamber (50 cm), 3) width of the drying chamber (43 cm), 4) surface of the racks (0.1806 m2), 5) surface of the heat accumulator (0.2537 m2). The experiment focused on the vacuum test of the dryer for two days and that of the drying of the sweet potato for three days from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The average vacuum test temperature values of the three environments are respectively accumulator (43°C), dryer chamber (41°C) and ambient environment (34°C). Four kilograms (4 kg) of boiled sweet potato were dried. The average temperatures in the accumulator and in the drying chamber during the three days of drying are respectively 33°C and 39°C. The final mass of the dried product is 1.2 kg, with a quantity of water extracted of 2 liters or 63% of the initial mass of the product. The average drying rate is 0.074 kg/h. The drying kinetics showed a decreasing rate in the absence of the heating period and the constant rate period.

Introduction: Goitre is an increase in the volume of the thyroid gland. Goiters may be congenital or acquired, diffuse or nodular, functional or non-functional, benign or malignant. Purpose: The objectives of this work were to study and determine the frequency of benign goitre in the general surgery department of CHU Gabriel Touré, and to study epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects. Patients and Method: This was a retrospective and prospective study conducted in the general surgery department of CHU Gabriel Touré, from January 1999 to December 2019. Included in the study were all patients with benign goiter confirmed in histology, hospitalized and treated in the service. Patients with thyroid malignant tumours, strumite, thyroid tract cyst, cervical abscess and neck trauma were not retained. Socio-demographic, clinical, para-clinical, therapeutic and post-operative aspects were the study parameters. Word processing and tables were done with Microsoft Word and Excel 2016 software. Data analysis was performed with Epi info7 software, the statistical test used was the Khi2 test and a value of P 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The large structure parameter of a sublevel caving method was used in Beiminghe iron mine. The ores were generally lower than the medium hardness and easy to be driUed and blasted. However, the questions of boulder yield, ＂pushing-wall＂ accident rate, and brow damage rate were not effectively controlled in practical blasting. The model test of a similar material shows that the charge concentration of bottom blastholes in the sector is too high; the pushing wall is the fundamental reason for the poor blasting effect. One of the main methods to adjust the explosive distribution is to increase the length of charged blastholes. Therefore, the field tests with respect to increasing the length of uncharged blastholes were made in 12# stope of-95 subsection and 6# stope of Beiminghe iron mine. This paper took the test result of 12# stope as an example to analyze the impact of charge structure on blasting effect and design an appropriate blasting parameter that is to similar to No. 12 stope.

This paper deals with the evaluation of the Coefficient of Performance (COP) of solar adsorption refrigeration. In the literature, simulation models to predict the thermal behaviour and the coefficient of performance of these systems are uncommon. This is why we suggest a model to simulate the operation of the machine in a typical hot and dry climate of the city of Ouagadougou. The objective is to provide a model for calculating the COP from the measurement of the ambient temperature and the irradiation of a given site. Starting from mathematical modelling, a resolution and simulation were made with COMSOL software based on the Dubinin-Astakhov adsorption model, the heat transfer balance equations, and the Linear Driving Force (LDF) model to describe the thermal behaviour of the system. A one-week measurement sequence on the adsorption solar refrigerator at the Albert Schweitzer Ecological Centre (CEAS) validated the numerical results. The measurement shows that for the days with high sunshine, the temperature of the reaction medium reaches 110°C, and the pressure reaches 500 mbar. This leads to a production of cold that allows it to reach the temperature of -5°C at the evaporator. Under these conditions, the COP is worth 14%. These results are obtained both by numerical simulation using the COMSOL 5.1 software and after a measurement session on the solar refrigerator available to the CEAS. We obtained an experimental and theoretical coefficient of performance varying between 9% and 14% with a difference of between 0% and 3%. We conclude that our model is suitable to estimate the COP of any device based on its thermal properties, the ambient temperature and the irradiation of a given site.

Stomach Cancer in the General Surgery Departement at the Teaching Hospital Gabriel Toure

Introduction: Stomach cancer is a malignant tumor developed at the expense of the gastric wall. Gastric cancer is a common cancer occupying the 5th rank of cancers in the world, or 5.7% of all cancers. Purpose: To study epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic aspects of stomach cancer. Methodology: This was a retrospective and prospective study, which was carried out in the General Surgery Department at the teaching hospital Gabriel Touré between January 1, 1999, and December 31, 2020, and all cases of stomach cancer were confirmed by histological examination. Result: We recorded 857 cases of stomach cancer or 40.1% of digestive cancers. The sex ratio was 1.6. The average age was 55 years ± 13 years. The main clinical signs were epigastralgia (98.6%), vomiting (93.34%), weight loss (96.03%), and anorexia (46.1%). It was adenocarcinoma (97.55%), and antropyloric location (78.64%). Patients were Stage IV (72.817%) cases. Among the 857 patients, 722 were operated on, accounting for 84.25% of the cases. Surgery was palliative in 60.66% and curative in 25.62%. Gastrectomy of 4/5 plus D2 type curage was the most performed in curative surgery. The median overall postoperative survival was 5 months. Conclusion: Stomach cancer is the most common digestive cancer in our department, the diagnosis is most often late, so palliative surgery occupies an important place.

In this work, the effects of boundaries conditions and truncation errors in the distribution of minority carriers in the semiconductor are studied. It is a one-dimensional digital study of a polycrystalline silicon solar cell under polychromatic illumination in a dynamic state. Starting from the Boltzmann equation of semiconductors, the author establishes the general equation of particle transport. Assumptions made on the latter allow it to give the equation of distribution of minority carriers in a general way in its case to be studied. This dimensioned distribution equation reveals the parameters of influences on the distribution of carriers. It obtains a partial derivative equation for the carrier distribution function. The boundary conditions are then discretized to order one and then to order two. By considering boundary conditions and the nature of the carriers, the author numerically resolves the discretized general equation by assessing the influence of the nature of the boundary conditions and truncation errors and the influence of the discretization step on the density of the charge carriers by setting certain parameters and varying others. The work ends with a conclusion and logical follow-up to this work.

Today, renewable energy projects connected to the interconnected network, with powers of the order of tens of megawatts, are more and more numerous in sub-Saharan Africa. And financing these investments requires a reliable amortization schedule. In the context of photovoltaic systems connected to the interconnected electricity grid, the quintessence of damping is the amount of energy injected into the grid. Thus it is fundamental to know the parameters of this network and their variation. This paper presents an evaluation of the impact of power grid disturbances on the performance of a solar PV plant under real conditions. The CICAD photovoltaic solar plant, connected to the Senelec distribution network, with an installed capacity of 2 MWp is the study setting. An energy audit of the plant is carried out. Then the percentage of each loss is determined: voltage drops, module degradation, inverter efficiency. The duration of each disconnection is measured and recorded daily. The corresponding quantity of lost energy is thus calculated from meteorological data (irradiation, temperature, wind speed, illumination) recorded by the measurement unit in one-minute steps. The observation period is three months. The total duration of disconnections related to the instability of the electrical network during the study period is 46.7 hours. The amount of energy lost is estimated at 22.6 MWh. This represents 2.4% of the actual calculated production.

The parietal component of pain occupies an important place in the management of postoperative analgesia. Parietal infiltration is a technique that fits into a concept of multimodal analgesia using several analgesic products simultaneously. This simple and reliable technique makes it possible to reduce the use of opioids and therefore their adverse effects;without increasing the risk of infection. It reduces the length of hospitalization.

Epidemiology and Clinical Profile of Behcet’s Disease in a Sub-Saharan Country: About Five Observations

Behçet’s disease (BD) is a multi-systemic vasculitis characterized by a triad made up of oral aphthosis, genital aphthosis and uveitis which may or may not be associated with visceral involvement. Other times described in the ancient silk road, BD is increasingly found in countries south of the Sahara with the mixing of populations. Our objective was to describe the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of BD in an African country. Methodology: This was a five-year retrospective study in the internal medicine department of Donka National Hospital. We used international criteria finding BD. Urinary dipstick was use for finding kidney disease. Result: During the period, five cases of Behçet’s disease were collected. The average age was 35 years old. The male sex was more represented with 3 out of 5 cases. The most common clinical manifestation was oral aphthosis in all patients (100%), followed by genital aphthosis in 4 cases (80%). The other clinical manifestations observed were uveitis in 3 cases (60%), joint manifestations such as arthralgia in 3 cases (60%) and neurological manifestations such as chronic headache in one case (20%). HLA-B51 was found in two cases. The pattergic test done in two patients came back positive (100%). The patients received colchicine and oral corticosteroid therapy. Two patients were lost to sight. We deplored a death probably in a neuro-Behçet table before the rebellious headaches. Conclusion: Behçet’s disease is a multi-systemic vasculitis that must be evoked and managed quickly in a tropical environment, especially since the prognosis, vital and functional prognosis can be engaged.
