Objective: To evaluate the acaricidal activity of the essential oil obtained from.roots of Derris floribunda(D. floribunda)(m.q.) Benth, and its m.in constituent nerolidol against the m.xican m.te Tetranychus m.xicanus(T. m.xicanus)(m. Gregor).m.thods: The essential oil from.the roots of D. floribunda collected in the Am.zon region(Brazil) was obtained by hydrodistillation. Its chem.cal com.osition was determ.ned by GC–m. analysis. The acaricidal activities of this essential oil and nerolidol,were evaluated by recording the num.er of dead fem.les(m.rtality) and eggs(fertility).Results: The essential oil showed sesquiterpenes as m.jor volatile com.onents. Nerolidol, the m.in com.onent, represented 68.5% of the total com.osition of the essential oil. D. floribunda essential oil and nerolidol showed acaricidal activity, with LC_(50) of9.61 m./m.L air and 9.2 m./m.L air, respectively, over a 72 h period. In addition, both the essential oil and nerolidol significantly reduced the fecundity of T. ***: Due to the econom.c im.ortance of T. m.xicanus and the lack of new pesticides, our data are very prom.sing in the search for efficient and safer acaricidal products. Furtherm.re, this is the first report about the chem.cal com.osition and bioactivity of the essential oil of the Am.zon plant species D. floribunda.

Osm.poration is a novel encapsulation approach for bioactive com.ounds based on the osm.resistance m.chanism. of m.crobial *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first study investigating the production of fisetin-enriched yoghurt using Lactobacillus acidophilus-based bio-capsules via osm.poration as the starter *** showed that the m.lk acidification with fisetin-loaded *** progressed at a slower pace due to com.lex m.chanism. induced by osm.po-ration and internalized *** ferm.ntation using fisetin bio-capsules reached a m.xim.m.acidification rate of 0.18 pH units/h after 23 h and pH 4.6 was achieved after 32 ***,the antioxidant activity of yoghurts produced with fisetin bio-capsules did not change during cold storage,while the antioxidant activity of yoghurt produced with non-encapsulated fisetin was reduced by 2.5-fold after 28 ***,this study shows that fisetin osm.poration using *** is a versatile encapsulation bioprocess that enables the delivery of preserved phytoactives into ferm.nted foods like *** strategy has the potential to be extended to other applications in the dairy industry using lactic acid bacteria as both the encapsulation m.trix and ferm.ntation agent.

In this report,we present a system.tic study on the preparation of Co:ZnO ceram.cs via a standard solid-state route from.different Co precursors(Co_(3)O_(4),CoO,and m.tallic Co)and atm.spheres(O_(2)and Ar).Particular em.hasis is given to defect chem.stry engineering and the sintering growth ***-principles calculations based on density functional theory are em.loyed to determ.ne the form.tion en-ergy of the m.in point defects in ZnO and Co:ZnO *** on the theoretical results,a set of chem.cal reactions is *** m.crostructural characterization is also perform.d to determ.ne the degree of Co incorporation into the ZnO *** sam.les prepared in Ar atm.sphere and m.tal-lic Co present the highest Co solubility lim.t(lower apparent Co incorporation activation energy)due to the incongruent ZnO *** of the param.ters of the sintering growth kinetics reveals that Co_(3)O_(4)is the best sintering additive to achieve larger grain sizes,and possible higher densi-ties,in both sintering atm.spheres,while m.tallic Co is the best to achieve the sm.llest grain size with higher Co concentration and hom.geneous spatial distribution for a subsequent reduction of *** results show that the sintering in O_(2)effectively prom.tes zinc vacancies in the ZnO structure,while the sintering in Ar prom.tes zinc interstitial *** findings contribute to understanding the preparation of Co-doped ZnO ceram.cs and the sintering growth kinetics,which m.y im.rove the state of the art in processing the m.terial at both bulk and nanom.tric scales.

Background The Cerrado is the m.st biodiverse savanna and m.intains other *** of its significance,this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado’s clim.tic,environm.ntal,and socioeconom.c aspects using rem.te sensing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal com.onents analysis—PCA).Following the m.asures of sam.le adequacy(m.A)and Kaiser–m.yer–Olkin(Km.)tests,seventeen variables were *** The m.A revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76),and nine variables were selected:elevation,evapotranspiration,active fires,Hum.n Developm.nt Index(HDI),land use and land cover(LULC;shrubland and cropland/rainfed),rainfall(spring and autum.),and *** correlation m.trix indicated a positive(negative)association between HDI and autum. rainfall(HDI and active fires)with a value of 0.77(-0.55).The PCA results determ.ned which three principal com.onents(PC)were adequate for extracting spatial patterns,accounting for 68.02%of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%,16.89%,and 12.5%.Due to econom.c developm.nt and agribusiness,Cerrado’s northern(central,western,and southern)areas had negative(positive)score HDI values,as shown in ***(rainfall—spring and fall)and environm.ntal(cropland/rainfed and shrubland)aspects dom.nated the PC2,with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Am.zon and Cerrado biom.s caused by rainfall *** the other hand,environm.ntal aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation)influenced the PC3;areas with high altitudes(>500 m.received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC,leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

Aim.To report the 1st year experience of the skin bank opened at the Evangelical University Hospital of Curitiba(HUEC),Brazil in June ***:A retrospective statistical and epidem.ological study was conducted from.data obtained from.the activities of the HUEC skin bank from.June 2013 to August ***:The HUEC skin bank harvested tissue from.45 cadaveric donors(46.6%fem.le and 53.3%m.le),with an average age of *** white skin-colored donors represented 91%of *** causes of death were of neurological origin(55.6%).Eighty-one batches were *** bank processed 31,314.63 cm.(2)of skin for transplantation(41 batches),and 38 batches were *** distributed allografts totaled 28,940.82 cm.(2),with tissue from.a single donor benefitting up to 5 patients.A total of 52 transplant procedures were perform.d(66.6%of recipients were m.le and 33.3%fem.le),burn victim. represented 83.3%of the ***:The HUEC skin bank provides skin prim.rily for victim. with severe third-degree burns,m.stly m.n,and who are treated and transplanted in the HUEC as a result of high *** successful outcom.s highlight the potential use for other clinical indications.
