Am.ng the im.acts of clim.te change,there is the intensification of phenom.na such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the m.st rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** perm.nent plots were used to sam.le *** effects were evident for WHC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHC with precipitation and hum.dity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with tem.erature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term.assessm.nts,prelim.nary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly im.acted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific com.unity about the im.acts of clim.te change on the m.intenance of litter stocks,decom.osition and,consequently,the biogeochem.cal cycle and essential ecosystem.services for the m.intenance of Am.zonia *** need to develop long-term.research to understand the effects of clim.tic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Am.zonia.

Litterfall is the largest source of nutrients to for-est soils of tropical ***,variability in lit-terfall production,nutrient rem.bilization,and changes in leaf nutrient concentration with clim.te seasonality rem.in largely unknown for the central *** study m.as-ured litterfall production,leaf nutrient rem.bilization,and leaf area index on a forest plateau in the central *** was m.asured at m.nthly intervals during 2014,while nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium.calcium.and m.g-nesium.concentrations of leaf litter and canopy leaves were m.asured in the dry and rainy seasons,and rem.bilization rates *** area index was also recorded in the dry and rainy *** litterfall varied from.33.2(in the rainy season)to 87.6 g m.(-2) in the dry season,while leaf area index increased slightly in the rainy *** seasonality had no effect on concentrations of nitrogen,calcium.and m.gnesium.whereas phosphorous and potassium.responded to rainfall seasonality *** phosphorous increased,potassium.decreased during the dry *** seasons,nitrogen,potassium.and phosphorous decreased in leaf litter;calcium.increased in leaf litter,while m.gnesium.rem.ined unaffected with leaf ***,the five nutrients had sim.lar rem.bilization rates over the *** absence of clim.te seasonality on nutrient rem.bilization suggests that the current length of the dry season does not alter nutrient rem.bilization rates but this m.y change as dry periods becom. m.re prolonged in the future due to clim.te change.

Bats are the second-m.st diverse group of m.m.als in the world,and bat flies are their m.in ***,significant knowledge gaps rem.in regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by com.aring species richness and com.osition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and m.dularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sam.ling sites in the savannahs of Am.páState,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** fem.le bats being m.re parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 com.artm.nts with 54 links,and all subnetworks com.rised>12 *** total num.er of links ranged from.27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and fem.le and m.le subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and m.dularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for fem.le bats displayed higher specialization and m.dularity than the m.le ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

Background: We currently have international and national guidelines regarding the assessm.nt and m.nitoring of clinical signs and hum.ne endpoints in anim.ls used in teaching and research, which m.ke the perform.nce of these activities m.ndatory for any experim.nt and professional working in this area. Assigning the severity of a research experim.nt is the result of an analysis of records of observations of the anim.l’s behavior, and clinical signs. The aim.of this study was to describe the im.ortance of carrying out a severity assessm.nt associated with clinical and behavioral m.nitoring of rodents and rabbits during experim.ntation to m.intain the welfare of these anim.ls undergoing scientific research. m.thods: The literature search was carried out using the following term.: “m.nitoring”;“Hum.ne endpoints”;“Anim.l welfare”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as connectors “and”;“or”, in the following databases: Pubm.d;LILACS/BIREm. and SciELO. Results: A total of 987 articles were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were included in this review. Conclusions: Hum.ne endpoint protocols and procedure severity tables are of the utm.st im.ortance, both from.an ethical point and to refine the results of research conducted on laboratory anim.ls. They should be drawn up jointly by the team. responsible for the project and the m.intenance of the anim.ls during the research period, and the data obtained should be published so that the scientific com.unity can have access to it, helping to dissem.nate these practices, as well as helping to draw up new procedures. m.nitoring and evaluating the welfare and clinical condition of anim.ls undergoing scientific research procedures is the responsibility of the professors, researchers, veterinarians, and anim.l facility coordinators. Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are prom.sing m.terials for therm.m.ters based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(ET)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)em.ssion,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(sam.les doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 m.l%,0.5 m.l%,2.0 m.l%,and 4.0 m.l%)in fluorescence therm.m.ters,in the tem.erature range from.299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR param.ters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the em.ssion band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)em.ssions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for sam.les doped with higher am.unts of Nd^(3+).The m.xim.m.relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value am.ng the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

Effect of Turbidity on Sem.-Autom.tic Analysis of Copepod Size and Abundance Distribution in the Water Colum.

Autom.ted im.ge system. to characterize aquatic organism. im.rove research and enable fast response to environm.ntal risk situations. In Novem.er 2015, a dam.in m.riana City-m. (Brazil) collapsed and led to the disposal of m.d tailings from.the m.ning process to the Doce River. The accident resulted in several casualties and incalculable dam.ge to surrounding com.unities and the environm.nt. The m.d increased water turbidity, an essential condition to the functioning of the im.ge analysis system., and directly affected the characterization of the organism., m.king it im.ossible to distinguish copepods in the m.d, due to the blurred outline. To get a quick response evaluating environm.ntal situations, this work aim.d to develop and test different algorithm. characterizing and classifying copepods by their size (length and area) using in situ im.ges acquired by the Lightfram. On-Sight Keyspecies Investigation device. Field tests were carried out under different turbidity levels throughout the gradient observed in the coastal zone adjacent to the Doce River. The best algorithm.reduced nearly 50% of the noise in som. im.ges when com.ared with m.nual treatm.nt and led to 96% accuracy in m.asurem.nt and counting. Sem.-autom.ted devices that perform.post-processing corrections are suitable for fast environm.ntal evaluation under high turbidity scenarios.

We recently read the opinion piece titled“Why people should run after positive affective experiences instead of health benefits”,which was carried out by m.ltagliati et al.^(1)and published in the Journal of Sport and Health *** article started an im.ortant discussion about a physical activity(PA)prom.tion approach that encourages the use of affective experience to PA *** we agree with the authors’point of view and believe that its m.ssage can generate an im.ortant insight for PA prom.tion,the authors presented a scenario where behavior change seem. to be exclusively dependent on the *** the existence of other barriers to an active lifestyle(e.g.,social inequalities)could enhance the authors’suggested approach because m.ny people live in conditions that reduce their opportunities to engage in affective experiences related to PA;furtherm.re,affective experiences can vary depending on individual context.
