Auxo: an architecture-centric framework supporting the online tuning of software adaptivity

Adaptivity is the capacity of software to adjust itself to changes in its environment. A common approach to achieving adaptivity is to introduce dedicated code during software development stage. However,since those code fragments are designed a priori, self-adaptive software cannot handle situations adequately when the contextual changes go beyond those that are originally anticipated. In this case, the original builtin adaptivity should be tuned. For example, new code should be added to provide the capacity to sense the unexpected environment or to replace outdated adaptation decision logic. the technical challenges in this process, especially that of tuning software adaptivity at runtime, cannot be understated. In this paper,we propose an architecture-centric application framework for self-adaptive software named Auxo. similar to existing work, our framework supports the development and running of self-adaptive software. Furthermore,our framework supports the tuning of software adaptivity without requiring the running self-adaptive software to be terminated. In short, the architecture style that we are introducing can encapsulate not only general functional logic but also the concerns in the self-adaptation loop(such as sensing, decision, and execution)as architecture elements. As a result, a third party, potentially the operator or an augmented software entity equipped with explicit domain knowledge, is able to dynamically and flexibly adjust the self-adaptation concerns through modifying the runtime software architecture. to truly exercise, validate, and evaluate our approach,we describe a self-adaptive application that was deployed on the framework, and conducted several experiments involving self-adaptation and the online tuning of software adaptivity.

tropomyosin receptor kinase B(trkB)signaling plays a pivotal role in dendritic growth and dendritic spine formation to promote learning and *** activity-dependent release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor at synapses binds to pre-or postsynaptic trkB resulting in the strengthening of synapses,reflected by long-term ***,the association of postsynaptic density protein-95 with trkB enhances phospholipase Cγ-Ca^(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseⅡand phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-mechanistic target of rapamycin signaling required for long-term *** this review,we discuss trkB-postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling as a promising strategy to magnify brain-derived neurotrophic factor signaling towards the development of novel therapeutics for specific neurological disorders.A reduction of trkB signaling has been observed in neurodegenerative disorders,such as Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease,and enhancement of postsynaptic density protein-95 association with trkB signaling could mitigate the observed deficiency of neuronal connectivity in schizophrenia and *** with brain-derived neurotrophic factor is problematic,due to poor pharmacokinetics,low brain penetration,and side effects resulting from activation of the p75 neurotrophin receptor or the truncated trkB.t1 *** trkB agonists and antibodies that activate trkB are being intensively investigated,they cannot distinguish the multiple human trkB splicing isoforms or cell type-specific *** trkB–postsynaptic density protein-95 coupling provides an alternative approach to specifically boost trkB signaling at localized synaptic sites versus global stimulation that risks many adverse side effects.

An anisotropic propagation technique for synthesizing hyperbranched polyvillic gold nanoparticles

Of late, many synthesis processes have been studied to develop irregular nano-rnorphologies of gold nanostructures for biomedical applications in order to increase the efficacy of nanoparticle theranostics, tune the plasmonic absorbance spectra, and increase the sensitivity of biomolecule detection through surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Here we report, a novel, non-seed mediated versatile single pot synthesis method capable of producing hyperbranched gold ＂nano-polyvilli＂ with more than 50-90 branching nanowires propagating from a single origin within each structure. the technique was capable of achieving precise tuning of the branch propagation where the branching could be controlled by varying the duration of incubation, temperature, and hydrogen ion concentration.

Bevacizumab for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in Chinese patients in a clinical setting

AIM：to determine the outcome of non-investigational treatment with intravitreal bevacizumab（IVB） in neovascular age-related macular degeneration（AMD）patients.· MEtHODs：Retrospective chart review of 81 eyes with neovascular AMD followed-up for at least 12 mo and received 3-monthly loading IVB ***-treat was based upon the individual clinician＇s *** visual acuity（BCVA） and optical coherence tomography measurements of central foveal thickness outcomes were evaluated at 12,24 mo.· REsULts：Eighty-one eyes（of 75 patients） completed12 mo of follow-up and 44 eyes（of 41 patients） completed24 mo of *** mean baseline logMAR BCVA significantly improved from 0.94±0.69 to 0.85±0.68 at12mo（P〈0.001） and from 0.91±0.65 to 0.85±0.60（P=0.004）at 24 *** proportion of eyes that lost 〈15 logMAR letters at 12 mo was 90.1%and at 24 mo was 81.8%.IVB was effective in improving visual acuity in both treatment naive and previous photodynamic therapy（PDt）-treated *** naive patients required significantly fewer injections than patients with prior *** regression analysis identified that poorer baseline visual acuity was associated with greater improvement in visual acuity（P=0.015）.· CONCLUsION：Fewer injections in clinical practice may result in suboptimal visual outcomes compared with clinical trials of IVB in neovascular AMD *** baseline visual acuity and prior PDt treatment may also improve vision after *** safety and durability of effect was maintained at 24 mo.

Inundative field releases and evaluation of three predators for Bemisia tabaci （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） management in three vegetable crops

the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci （Gennadius）（Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae）, is a global pest on numerous crops, including vegetables. Weekly inundative releases of a coccinellid predator （Coccinella undecimpunctata L. [Coleoptera： Coccinellidae]）, a common green lacewing predator （Chrysoperla carnea stephen [Neuroptera： Chrysopidae]）, and a mirid predator （Macrolophus caliginosus [Wagner] [Hemiptera： Miridae]） were independently made in three vegetable crops （cabbage [Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.], cucumber [Cucumis sativus L.], and squash [Cucurbita pepo L.]） for the management of the sweetpotato whitefly. Approximately 1 million to 2.5 million larvae or nymphs of each predator were released in the vegetable crops during 20 weeks. Whitefly populations were reduced by ≈ 25%-45% during most of the season in each crop where each predator was released. the effect of each predator was similar on whitefly population reduction. Late in the season （October） when whitefly populations were low, generally no benefit was obtained from releasing the predators. Numbers of predators recovered during sampling in all crops were greatest for C. carnea, but this corresponded with the fact that more individuals of this predator were released than any other predator in the experiment. these results help define the utility of these natural enemies for managing B. tabaci in vegetable crops.

Reinforcement learning models for scheduling in wireless networks

the dynamicity of available resources and net- work conditions, such as channel capacity and traffic charac- teristics, have posed major challenges to scheduling in wire- less networks. Reinforcement learning （RL） enables wire- less nodes to observe their respective operating environment, learn, and make optimal or near-optimal scheduling deci- sions. Learning, which is the main intrinsic characteristic of RL, enables wireless nodes to adapt to most forms of dynamicity in the operating environment as time goes by. this paper presents an extensive review on the application of the traditional and enhanced RL approaches to various types of scheduling schemes, namely packet, sleep-wake and task schedulers, in wireless networks, as well as the advantages and performance enhancements brought about by RL. Addi- tionally, it presents how various challenges associated with scheduling schemes have been approached using RL. Finally, we discuss various open issues related to RL-based schedul- ing schemes in wireless networks in order to explore new re- search directions in this area. Discussions in this paper are presented in a tutorial manner in order to establish a founda- tion for further research in this field.

Objectives:sex education toward adolescent remains the most controversial subject due to the various thoughts and ideas of different values present in *** educators as parents must exemplify sex education to their *** aim of this present study was to explore parents’experience,with nurse educators background to be exact,on how they convey sex education to their ***:this study is a descriptive qualitative study,and the sample is recruited by using the purposive sampling *** qualified participants filled in the informed consent,provided demographic data,and were *** data were obtained at the 6th interview in this *** interview is transcribed to find themes and subthemes using conventional content ***:We derived 3 main themes:parents’approach,sex education topic,and children’s ***’approach contained 4 subthemes,namely,gender match,parent-child closeness,media,and *** education topic included 5 subthemes of bodily autonomy,health and safety,reproductive anatomy,puberty-related changes,and how to maintain ***’s reaction experiences also included 4 subthemes of uncomfortable,questioning,acknowledging,and ***:As a matter of fact,some parents in eastern countries,such as Indonesia,conveyed sex education to their *** might have various reactions to that topic,but it is important to keep them safe,especially in reproductive health,regardless of the culture or *** on nurse educators as exemplifiers,nurses and nursing students might acquire the picture in conveying sex education to adolescents.

An empirical study of DsRC V2V performance in truck platooning scenarios

Among many safety applications enabled by Dedicated short Range Communication （DsRC）, truck platooning provides many incentives to commercial companies. this paper studies DsRC Vehicle-to-Vehicle （V2V） performance in truck platooning scenarios through real-world experiments. Commercial DsRC equipments and semi-trailer trucks are used in this study. We mount one DsRC antenna on each side of the truck. One set of dynamic tests and a few sets of static tests are conducted to explore DsRC behaviors under different situations. From the test results, we verified some of our speculations. For example, hilly roads can affect delivery ratio and antennas mounted on opposite sides of a truck can suffer from low delivery ratio at curved roads. In addition, we also found that antennas can sometimes suffer from low delivery ratio even when the trucks are on straight roads, possibly due to reflections from the nearby terrain. Fortunately, the delivery ratio can be greatly improved by using the two side antennas alternately.
