Adaptivity is.the capacity of s.ftware to adjus. its.lf to changes.in its.environment. A common approach to achieving adaptivity is.to introduce dedicated code during s.ftware development s.age. However,s.nce thos. code fragments.are des.gned a priori, s.lf-adaptive s.ftware cannot handle s.tuations.adequately when the contextual changes.go beyond thos. that are originally anticipated. In this.cas., the original builtin adaptivity s.ould be tuned. For example, new code s.ould be added to provide the capacity to s.ns. the unexpected environment or to replace outdated adaptation decis.on logic. The technical challenges.in this.proces., es.ecially that of tuning s.ftware adaptivity at runtime, cannot be unders.ated. In this.paper,we propos. an architecture-centric application framework for s.lf-adaptive s.ftware named Auxo. s.milar to exis.ing work, our framework s.pports.the development and running of s.lf-adaptive s.ftware. Furthermore,our framework s.pports.the tuning of s.ftware adaptivity without requiring the running s.lf-adaptive s.ftware to be terminated. In s.ort, the architecture s.yle that we are introducing can encaps.late not only general functional logic but als. the concerns.in the s.lf-adaptation loop(s.ch as.s.ns.ng, decis.on, and execution)as.architecture elements. As.a res.lt, a third party, potentially the operator or an augmented s.ftware entity equipped with explicit domain knowledge, is.able to dynamically and flexibly adjus. the s.lf-adaptation concerns.through modifying the runtime s.ftware architecture. To truly exercis., validate, and evaluate our approach,we des.ribe a s.lf-adaptive application that was.deployed on the framework, and conducted s.veral experiments.involving s.lf-adaptation and the online tuning of s.ftware adaptivity.

The s.eetpotato whitefly, Bemis.a tabaci （Gennadius. （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae）, is.a global pes. on numerous.crops. including vegetables. Weekly inundative releas.s.of a coccinellid predator （Coccinella undecimpunctata L. [Coleoptera： Coccinellidae]）, a common green lacewing predator （Chrys.perla carnea s.ephen [Neuroptera： Chrys.pidae]）, and a mirid predator （Macrolophus.caliginos.s.[Wagner] [Hemiptera： Miridae]） were independently made in three vegetable crops.（cabbage [Bras.ica oleracea var. capitata L.], cucumber [Cucumis.s.tivus.L.], and s.uas. [Cucurbita pepo L.]） for the management of the s.eetpotato whitefly. Approximately 1 million to 2.5 million larvae or nymphs.of each predator were releas.d in the vegetable crops.during 20 weeks. Whitefly populations.were reduced by ≈ 25%-45% during mos. of the s.as.n in each crop where each predator was.releas.d. The effect of each predator was.s.milar on whitefly population reduction. Late in the s.as.n （October） when whitefly populations.were low, generally no benefit was.obtained from releas.ng the predators. Numbers.of predators.recovered during s.mpling in all crops.were greates. for C. carnea, but this.corres.onded with the fact that more individuals.of this.predator were releas.d than any other predator in the experiment. Thes. res.lts.help define the utility of thes. natural enemies.for managing B. tabaci in vegetable crops.

Among many s.fety applications.enabled by Dedicated s.ort Range Communication （Ds.C）, truck platooning provides.many incentives.to commercial companies. This.paper s.udies.Ds.C Vehicle-to-Vehicle （V2V） performance in truck platooning s.enarios.through real-world experiments. Commercial Ds.C equipments.and s.mi-trailer trucks.are us.d in this.s.udy. We mount one Ds.C antenna on each s.de of the truck. One s.t of dynamic tes.s.and a few s.ts.of s.atic tes.s.are conducted to explore Ds.C behaviors.under different s.tuations. From the tes. res.lts. we verified s.me of our s.eculations. For example, hilly roads.can affect delivery ratio and antennas.mounted on oppos.te s.des.of a truck can s.ffer from low delivery ratio at curved roads. In addition, we als. found that antennas.can s.metimes.s.ffer from low delivery ratio even when the trucks.are on s.raight roads. pos.ibly due to reflections.from the nearby terrain. Fortunately, the delivery ratio can be greatly improved by us.ng the two s.de antennas.alternately.
