Novel Mechanical Interface Design for Automotive Starting Systems

Stop-start vehicles(SSVs)represent a potential alternative for improving internal combustion engine(IcE)*** provide IcEs with the functionality of turning the engine off during traffic halts and restarting it without intervention by the *** strategy reduces fuel consumption,especially in dense urban traffic areas,and contributes to emissions reduction to meet green emissions *** most widely adopted SSV system has a mechanical interface to connect the electric starter motor to the IcE,which requires increased robustness compared with standard starting *** requirement allows the motor to withstand a higher number of engine start cycles compared with a standard starting ***,it is a critical problem for wider adoption of *** SSV systems usually are based on the conventional starting system,its durability and noise remains a critical issue to be addressed by *** typical pinion-ring gear interface uses intermittent gear meshing to form a transient coupling *** research reported here presents the development of an innovative mechanical interface for starting systems,called the permanent coupling(Pc)-type interface,which reduces noise and increases durability compared with the existing *** results obtained by a functional prototype of the Pc-type mechanical interface confirm the feasibility of the proposed *** methodology is based on a product development process integrated with lumped-parameter modeling and virtual simulation aimed at reducing failures during prototype *** new mechanical interface was proven to be a good candidate for increasing the use of SSVs in the automotive market.

Motivational and Methodological Factors Involved in the Helping Behavior Test in Laboratory Rodents

Empathy allows humans and other animals to share the emotional state of another, adopting that individual’s perspective on a given situation. This ability is fundamental for species living in groups. Helping behavior in laboratory animals has been used to study empathy. In this test, subjects are exposed to a conspecific that is trapped and learn to open the cage to release the other animal. However, the interpretation of helping behavior as an emphatically motivated action is still controversial. Here we review the studies that use the helping behavioral test proposed by Ben-Ami Bartal and colleagues in 2011 to better understand motivational factors for this behavior. In addition, we compare methodological aspects of these studies. In conclusion, helping behavior can be driven by empathy, but other factors such as the desire for social contact and learning components cannot be ruled out as motivators. In addition, studies focused on evaluating neurobiological mechanisms underlying helping behavior in laboratory rodents can help elucidate the factors involved in releasing the trapped co-specific.

Two nanostructured A1-cu-Fe alloys, A164cu24Fe12 and A162.5cu25.2Fe12.3, have been studied. Icosahedral quasicrystalline （ψ） A164cH24FeI2 and crystalline cubic （ β） ***25.2Fe12.3 cylindrical ingots were first produced using normal casting techniques. High-energy mechanical milling was then conducted to obtain β icosahedral and β intermetallic nanostructured powders. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, linear polarization resistance, and potentiodynamic polarization were used to investigate the electrochemical corrosion characteristics of the powders in solutions with different pH values. current density （icorr）, polarization resistance （Rp）, and impedance modulus （121） were determined. The results showed that regardless of pH value, increasing the solution temperature enhanced the corrosion resistance of the both phases. However, the electrochemical behavior of the phase indicated that its stability depends on the submerged exposure time in neutral and alkaline environments. This behavior was related to the type of corrosion products present on the surfaces of the particles along with the diffusion and charge-transfer mechanisms of the corrosion process.

Foraging, feeding, and physiological stress responses of wild wood mice to increased illumination and common genet cues

In nature, animals are exposed to a broad range of threats imposed by predators, which may strongly influence the ecology of prey species directly or indirectly by affecting their behavior via fear of predation. Here, we studied wood mice Apodemus sylvaticus behavioral and physiological responses to simulated predation risk. Risk avoidance was analyzed by live trapping with control traps and traps treated with feces of common genet Genetta genetta （direct cue of risk） under new moon nights and following by simulated full moon conditions （indirect cue）. The time devoted to foraging behavior and capture time were analyzed by video recording mice activity around traps. Food intake was calculated based on the amount of bait remaining in each trap. Fecal cortico- sterone metabolites （FcMs） were measured by enzyme-immunoassay as indicators of physio- logical stress responses. Fewer wood mice were captured during full moon, yet only non-breeding adult males clearly avoided common genet odor. Mice were captured sooner at night during the simulated full moon conditions and later in predator-treated traps. Foraging activity was lower when individuals faced predator＇s feces, but neither food intake nor FcM levels were affected by predation risk cues. Direct and indirect cues of predation risk selectively affected wood mice behavior, although behavioral responses seem to be modulated by different costs-benefit balances related to the individual＇s perception of risk. The lack of physiological responses to predation risk cues suggests that wood mice did not perceive them as reliable stressors or the response was too small or transient to be measured by FcM.

Graphe ne nano sheets are a promising scaffold to accommodate S for achievi ng high performa nee Li/S battery. Nano sheet activation is used as a viable strategy to induce a micropore system and further improve the battery performance. Accordingly, chemical activation methods dominate despite the need of multiple stages, which slow down the process in addition to making them tiresome. Here, a three-dimensional (3D) N-doped graphene specimen was physically activated with cO2, a clean and single step process, and used for the preparation of a sulfur composite (A-3DNG/S). The A-3DNG/S composite exhibited outstanding electrochemical properties such as an excellent rate capability (1,000 mAh·g^-1 at 2c), high reversible capacity and cycling stability (average capacity ~ 800 mAh·g^-1 at 1c after 200 cycles), values which exceed those measured in chemically activated graphene. Therefore, these results support the use of physical activation as a simple and efficient alternative to improve the performance of carbons as an S host for high-performance Li-S batteries.

Validation of ERA5-Land temperature and relative humidity on four Peruvian glaciers using on-glacier observations

Weather and climate conditions drive the evolution of tropical glaciers which play an important role as water reservoirs for Peruvian inhabitants in the arid coast and semi-arid Andean *** scarcity of long-term high-quality observations over Peruvian glaciers has motivated the extensive use of reanalysis data to describe the climatic evolution of these ***,the representativeness and uncertainties of these reanalysis products over these glaciers are still poorly *** study evaluates the ability of the ERA-Land reanalysis(ERAL)to reproduce hourly and monthly 2 m air temperature and relative humidity(T2m and Rh2m,respectively)over several Peruvian *** compared the ERAL with data from four on-glacier automatic weather stations(AWS),whose hourly time series were completed with nearby stations,for the period January 2017 to December *** indicates a better performance of the reanalysis for T2m(r>0.80)than for Rh2m(~0.4cycle influenced by the presence of the *** influence is more prominent during the dry months when the so-called glacier damping and cooling effects are *** a monthly time scale,the ERAL validation for both parameters are better in wet outer tropical sites(RMSE between±0.2℃ for T2m and between 3%-7% for Rh2m)rather than in dry outer tropical sites(RMSE between±0.2℃ for T2m and between 3%-7% for Rh2m).Among all sites considered in the study,the Rh2m bias is the highest in the cavalca glacier(correlation of 0.81;RMSE 13%,MAE 11% and bias 8.3%)and the lowest in Artesonraju glacier(correlation of 0.96;RMSE 3%;MAE 2.3% and bias-0.8%).Based on certain considerations outlined in this paper,it is appropriate to use ERAL to characterize T2m and Rh2m conditions on Peruvian glaciers,particularly in the wet outer tropics.

Punctual mutations in 23S rRNA gene of clarithromycinresistant Helicobacter pylori in colombian populations

AIM To characterize punctual mutations in 23S rRNA gene of clarithromycin-resistant Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) and determine their association with therapeutic *** PcR products of 23S rRNA gene V domain of 74 H. pylori isolates; 34 resistant to clarithromycin(29 from a low-risk gastric cancer(Gc) population: Tumacocolombia, and 5 from a high-risk population: Tuquerrescolombia) and 40 from a susceptible population(28 from Tumaco and 12 from Túquerres) were sequenced using capillary electrophoresis. The concordance between mutations of V domain 23S rRNA gene of H. pylori and therapeutic failure was determined using the Kappa coefficient and Mc Nemar's test was performed to determine the relationship between H. pylori mutationsand clarithromycin ***23S rRNA gene from H. pylori was amplified in 56/74 isolates, of which 25 were resistant to clarithromycin(20 from Tumaco and 5 from Túquerres, respectively). In 17 resistant isolates(13 from Tumaco and 4 from Túquerres) the following mutations were found: A1593 T1, A1653 G2, c1770 T, c1954 T1, and G1827 c in isolates from Tumaco, and A2144 G from Túquerres. The mutations T2183 c, A2144 G and c2196 T in H. pylori isolates resistant to clarithromycin from colombia are reported for the first time. No association between the H. pylori mutations and in vitro clarithromycin resistance was found. However, therapeutic failure of eradication treatment was associated with mutations of 23S rRNA gene in clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori(κ = 0.71).cONcLUSION The therapeutic failure of eradication treatment in the two populations from colombia was associated with mutations of the 23S rRNA gene in clarithromycinresistant H. pylori.
