BACKGROUND The shortage of liver grafts and subsequent waitlist mortality led us to expand the donor pool using liver grafts from older *** To determine the incidence,outcomes,and risk factors for biliary complications(BC)in liver transplantation(LT)using liver grafts from donors aged>70 *** Between January 1994 and December 31,2019,297 LTs were performed using donors older than 70 *** excluding 47 LT for several reasons,we divided 250 LTs into two groups,namely post-LT BC(n=21)and without BC(n=229).This retrospective case-control study compared both *** Choledocho-choledochostomy without T-tube was the most frequent technique(76.2%in the BC group vs 92.6%in the non-BC group).Twenty-one patients(8.4%)developed BC(13 anastomotic strictures,7 biliary leakages,and 1 nonanastomotic biliary stricture).Nine patients underwent percutaneous balloon dilation and nine required a Rouxen-Y hepaticojejunostomy because of dilation *** incidence of post-LT complications(graft dysfunction,rejection,renal failure,and non-BC reoperations)was similar in both *** were no significant differences in the patient and graft survival between the ***,only three deaths were attributed to *** female donors were protective factors for BC,donor cardiac arrest was a risk *** The incidence of BC was relatively low on using liver grafts>70 *** could be managed in most cases by percutaneous dilation or Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy,without significant differences in the patient or graft survival between the groups.

Cover crops have long been proposed as an alternative soil management for minimizing erosion rates in olive stands while providing additional ecosystem ***,the trade-off between these benefits and the competition for water with the trees makes the definition of optimal management practices a challenging task in semiarid *** work presents an improved version of OliveCan,a process-based simulation model of olive orchards that now can simulate the main impacts of cover crops on the water and carbon balances of olive *** simple in its formulation,the new model components were developed to deal with different cover crop management *** are presented for simulation runs of a traditional olive orchard in the conditions of southern Spain,evaluating the effects of different widths for the strip occupied by the cover crop(Fcc)and two contrasting mowing *** revealed that high Fccresulted in lower olive yields,but only when mowing was applied at the end of *** this regard,late mowing and high Fccwas associated with lower soil water content from spring to summer,coinciding with olive flowering and the earlier stages of fruit *** also negatively correlated with surface runoff irrespective of the mowing *** the other hand,net ecosystem productivity(NEP)was substantially affected by both Fccand mowing *** simulations under future climate scenarios comparing the same management alternatives are also presented,showing substantial yield reductions by the end of the century and minor or negligible changes in NEP and seasonal runoff.

the bile duct system and pancreas show many similarities due to their anatomical proximity and common embryological ***,preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions of the bile duct and pancreas share analogies in terms of molecular,histological and pathophysiological *** neoplasms are reported in biliary tract,as biliary intraepithelial neoplasm(BilIN),and in pancreas,as pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasm(PanIN).Both can evolve to invasive carcinomas,respectively cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).Intraductal papillary neoplasms arise in biliary tract and *** papillary neoplasm of the biliary tract(IPNB)share common histologic and phenotypic features such as pancreatobiliary,gastric,intestinal and oncocytic types,and biological behavior with the pancreatic counterpart,the intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas(IPMN).All these neoplastic lesions exhibit similar immunohistochemical phenotypes,suggesting a common carcinogenic ***,CCA and PDAC display similar clinic-pathological features as growth pattern,poor response to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy and,as a consequence,an unfavorable *** objective of this review is to discuss similarities and differences between the neoplastic lesions of the pancreas and biliary tract with potential implications on a common origin from similar stem/progenitor cells.

We experimentally demonstrate self-trapping of light, as a result of plasmonic resonant optical nonlinearity,in both aqueous and organic(toluene) suspensions of gold nanorods. The threshold power for soliton formation is greatly reduced in toluene as opposed to aqueous suspensions. It is well known that the optical gradient forces are optimized at off-resonance wavelengths at which suspended particles typically exhibit a strong positive(or negative) polarizability. However, surprisingly, as we tune the wavelength of the optical beam from a continuous-wave(CW) laser, we find that the threshold power is reduced by more than threefold at the plasmonic resonance frequency. By analyzing the optical forces and torque acting on the nanorods, we show theoretically that it is possible to align the nanorods inside a soliton waveguide channel into orthogonal orientations by using merely two different laser wavelengths. We perform a series of experiments to examine the transmission of the soliton-forming beam itself, as well as the polarization transmission spectrum of a low-power probe beam guided along the soliton channel. It is found that the expected synthetic anisotropic properties are too subtle to be clearly observed, in large part due to Brownian motion of the solvent molecules and a limited ordering region where the optical field from the self-trapped beam is strong enough to overcome thermodynamic fluctuations. The ability to achieve tunable nonlinearity and nanorod orientations in colloidal nanosuspensions with low-power CW laser beams may lead to interesting applications in all-optical switching and transparent display technologies.
