The Characteristics of Near-surface Velocity During the Upwelling Season on the Northern Portugal Shelf

Observations made on the northern Portugal mid-shelf between May 13 and June 15,2002 were used to characterise the near-surface velocity during one upwelling season. It was found that in the surface mixed layer,the 'tidal current' was diurnal,but the tidal elevation was semi-diurnal. Both the residual current and the major axes of all tidal constituents were nearly perpendicular to the isobaths and the tidal current ellipses rotated clockwise;the major axis of the major tidal ellipse was about 3 cm s-1. The extremely strong diurnal current in the surface layer was probably due to diurnal heating,cooling,and wind mixing that induced diurnal oscillations,including the diurnal oscillation of wind stress. This is a case different from the results measured in the other layers in this area. The near-inertial spectral peaks occurred with periods ranging from 1 047 min to 1 170 min,the longest periods being observed in deeper layers,and the shortest in the surface layer. Weak inertial events appeared during strong upwelling events,while strong inertial events appeared during downwelling or weak subinertial events. The near-inertial currents were out of phase between 5 m and 35 m layers for almost the entire measurement period,but such relationship was very weak during periods of irregular weak wind. Strong persistent southerly wind blew from May 12 to 17 and forced a significant water transport onshore and established a strong barotropic poleward jet with a surface speed exceeding 20 cm s-1. The subinertial current was related to wind variation,especially in the middle layers of 15 m and 35 m,the maximum correlation between alongshore current and alongshore wind was about 0.5 at the 5 m layer and 0.8 at the 35 m layer. The alongshore current reacted more rapidly than the cross-shore current. The strongest correlation was found at a time lag of 20 h in the upper layer and of 30 h in the deeper layer. Back-table surgery pancreas allograft for transplantation:Implications in complications

Artificial intelligence(AI)has experienced substantial progress over the last ten years in many fields of application,including *** hepatology and pancreatology,major attention to date has been paid to its application to the assisted or even automated interpretation of radiological images,where AI can generate accurate and reproducible imaging diagnosis,reducing the physicians’*** can provide automatic or semi-automatic segmentation and registration of the liver and pancreatic glands and ***,using radiomics,AI can introduce new quantitative information which is not visible to the human eye to radiological *** has been applied in the detection and characterization of focal lesions and diffuse diseases of the liver and pancreas,such as neoplasms,chronic hepatic disease,or acute or chronic pancreatitis,among *** solutions have been applied to different imaging techniques commonly used to diagnose liver and pancreatic diseases,such as ultrasound,endoscopic ultrasonography,computerized tomography(CT),magnetic resonance imaging,and positron emission tomography/***,AI is also applied in this context to many other relevant steps involved in a comprehensive clinical scenario to manage a gastroenterological *** can also be applied to choose the most convenient test prescription,to improve image quality or accelerate its acquisition,and to predict patient prognosis and treatment *** this review,we summarize the current evidence on the application of AI to hepatic and pancreatic radiology,not only in regard to the interpretation of images,but also to all the steps involved in the radiological workflow in a broader ***,we discuss the challenges and future directions of the clinical application of AI methods.

Advanced prostate cancer(PCa)is known for its high prevalence to metastasize to bone,at which point it is considered *** significant effort,there is no animal model capable of recapitulating the complexity of PCa bone *** humanized mouse model for PCa bone metastasis used in this study aims to provide a platform for the assessment of new drugs by recapitulating the human–human cell interactions relevant for disease development and *** humanized tissueengineered bone construct(hTEBC)was created within NOD-scid IL2rgnull(NSG)mice and was used for the study of experimental PC3-Luc bone *** was confirmed that PC3-Luc cells preferentially grew in the hTEBC compared with murine *** translational potential of the humanized mouse model for PCa bone metastasis was evaluated with two clinically approved osteoprotective therapies,the non-species-specific bisphosphonate zoledronic acid(ZA)or the human-specific antibody Denosumab,both targeting Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-Β***,but not Denosumab,significantly decreased metastases in hTEBCs,but not murine *** results highlight the importance of humanized models for the preclinical research on PCa bone metastasis and indicate the potential of the bioengineered mouse model to closely mimic the metastatic cascade of PCa cells to human ***,it will enable the development of new effective antimetastatic treatments.

The need to develop tailored tools for improving the quality of thematic bibliometric analyses: Evidence from papers published in Sustainability and Scientometrics

Purpose: The aim of this article is to explore up to seven parameters related to the methodological quality and reproducibility of thematic bibliometric research published in the two most productive journals in bibliometrics, Sustainability(a journal outside the discipline) and Scientometrics, the flagship journal in the ***/methodology/approach: The study identifies the need for developing tailored tools for improving the quality of thematic bibliometric analyses, and presents a framework that can guide the development of such tools. A total of 508 papers are analysed, 77% of Sustainability, and 23% published in Scientometrics, for the 2019-2021 ***: An average of 2.6 shortcomings per paper was found for the whole sample, with an almost identical number of flaws in both journals. Sustainability has more flaws than Scientometrics in four of the seven parameters studied, while Scientometrics has more shortcomings in the remaining three *** limitations: The first limitation of this work is that it is a study of two scientific journals, so the results cannot be directly extrapolated to the set of thematic bibliometric analyses published in journals from all *** implications: We propose the adoption of protocols, guidelines, and other similar tools, adapted to bibliometric practice, which could increase the thoroughness, transparency, and reproducibility of this type of ***/value: These results show considerable room for improvement in terms of the adequate use and breakdown of methodological procedures in thematic bibliometric research, both in journals in the Information Science area and journals outside the discipline.

Highly graphitized carbon nanosheets with embedded Ni nanocrystals as anode for Li-ion batteries

A C/Ni composite was prepared via thermal decomposition of a nickel oleate complex at 700℃,yielding disperse Ni nanocrystals with an average size of 20 nm,encapsulated by carbon nanosheets as deduced from transmission electron microscopy(TEM)images and confirmed from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).Furthermore,the X-ray diffraction pattern revealed a good ordering of the carbon layers,forced by the Ni encapsulation to adopt a bending *** the close interaction between the graphitized framework and the metallic nanoparticles we have studied the properties of the composite as an anode for Li-ion *** with other nanostructured synthetic carbons,this carbon composite has a low voltage hysteresis and a modest irreversible capacity value,properties that play a significant role in its behaviour as electrodes in full cell *** moderate rate values,0.25 C,the electrode delivers an average capacity value around 723 mAh·g^−1 on cycling,among the highest values so far reported for this carbon *** higher rate values,1 C,the average capacity values delivered by the cell on cycling decrease,around 205 mAh·g^−1,but it maintains good capacity retention,a coulombic efficiency close to 100%after the first cycles and recovery of the capacity values when the rate is restored from 3 to 0.1 C.

Large-Scale Group Decision Making:A Systematic Review and a Critical Analysis

The society in the digital transformation era demands new decision schemes such as e-democracy or based on social *** novel decision schemes require the participation of many experts/decision makers/stakeholders in the decision *** a result,large-scale group decision making(LSGDM)has attracted the attention of many researchers in the last decade and many studies have been conducted in order to face the challenges associated with the ***,this paper aims at reviewing the most relevant studies about LSGDM,identifying the most profitable research trends and analyzing them from a critical point of *** do so,the Web of Science database has been consulted by using different *** these results a total of 241 contributions were found and a selection process regarding language,type of contribution and actual relation with the studied topic was then carried *** 87 contributions finally selected for this review have been analyzed from four points of view that have been highly remarked in the topic,such as the preference structure in which decision-makers’opinions are modeled,the group decision rules used to define the decision making process,the techniques applied to verify the quality of these models and their applications to real world problems ***,a critical analysis of the main limitations of the existing proposals is ***,taking into account these limitations,new research lines for LSGDM are proposed and the main challenges are stressed out.
