Protocol for the development and validation of a clinical measurement tool for fear of disease progression and recurrence in cardiac patients

Introduction: One in two cardiac patients fear having another heart event or their heart condition getting worse. Research in other chronic illnesses demonstrates that screening for fear of progression and recurrence is vital for adequately addressing such concerns in clinical care. The current project aims to develop and validate a measure for fear of progression and recurrence in cardiac ***: The Fear of Cardiac Recurrence and Progression Scale (FCRP) will be developed through a multistep process. An initial item pool will be generated through a review of the literature and existing measures and consultation with and feedback from key informants. The item pool will be tested in a sample of over 250 adults who have ever had an acute coronary event, undergone cardiac surgery, or a chronic cardiac condition. Exploratory factor analysis will be used to identify the underlying factors, and Rasch analysis will be used to reduce the number of items. A short form version of the FCRP will be developed for use as a brief screening tool, informed by clinical relevance and Rasch psychometric ***: While many cardiac patients experience fears related to the progression or recurrence of their illness, there remains the need for a validated tool with which these concerns can be identified and measured. It is expected that the design and validation of the FCRP will aid identification of cardiac patients suffering from clinically significant levels of fear of progression and recurrence and facilitate the design of tailored psychological interventions to target these fears.

Improving error-correcting capability in DNA digital storage via soft-decision decoding

Error-correcting codes(ECCs) employed in the state-of-the-art DNA digital storage(DDS) systems suffer from a trade-off between error-correcting capability and the proportion of redundancy. To address this issue, in this study, we introduce soft-decision decoding approach into DDS by proposing a DNA-specific error prediction model and a series of novel strategies. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through a proof-of-concept DDS system based on Reed-Solomon(RS) code, named as Derrick. Derrick shows significant improvement in error-correcting capability without involving additional redundancy in both in vitro and in silico experiments, using various sequencing technologies such as Illumina, Pac Bio and Oxford Nanopore Technology(ONT). Notably, in vitro experiments using ONT sequencing at a depth of 7× reveal that Derrick, compared with the traditional hard-decision decoding strategy, doubles the error-correcting capability of RS code, decreases the proportion of matrices with decoding-failure by 229-fold, and amplifies the potential maximum storage volume by impressive 32 388-fold. Also, Derrick surpasses ‘state-of-the-art' DDS systems by comprehensively considering the information density and the minimum sequencing depth required for complete information recovery. Crucially, the soft-decision decoding strategy and key steps of Derrick are generalizable to other ECCs' decoding algorithms.

欧盟碳边境调节机制已成为欧盟的正式法律,开展其对全球经济、贸易和产业格局的深度影响评估确有必要。该文采用全球多区域递归动态可计算一般均衡模型,对欧盟碳边境调节机制进行了情景模拟和分析,评估了其对主要经济体国内生产总值(gross domestic product,GDP)、出口和产业的影响,讨论了该机制下国际产业格局的发展趋势。结果表明:由于俄罗斯对欧盟出口钢铁等产品较多,因此其GDP将受到较大负面冲击,预计2025年和2030年俄罗斯GDP变化率分别达-0.12%和-0.32%,而欧盟通过本土替代生产将增加自身GDP;俄罗斯的出口总额下降最多,预计2025年和2030年出口总额变化率分别达-0.86%和-2.48%,而欧盟具体行业中,与碳边境调节机制相关行业的出口均会明显受益;俄罗斯、土耳其和中国等经济体的钢铁、非金属、有色金属和化工行业产出均将出现不同程度下降,中国有色金属行业的国际市场份额反而呈上升趋势,反映了竞争力优势。全球重点行业产出呈现从高碳产品出口依赖度高的发展中经济体向发达经济体或国际竞争力较强的发展中经济体转移的趋势。建议加强多边合作,优化产业与贸易结构,加快全国碳排放权交易市场建设,积极参与应对气候变化和贸易等领域国际标准和规则制定。

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common childhood kidney cancer. Although WT is largely curable, current treatments fail in up to 15 percent of patients. Moreover, survivors suffer from the complications and late effects of the aggressive treatments. Thus, there is a critical need to improve our understanding of tumorigenesis to develop novel therapies to reduce the treatment burden while maintaining excellent survival rates. WT is believed to arise from the immature kidney cells, nephron progenitor cells (NPCs), which have failed to differentiate properly. Previous studies revealed that Wilms cells share a transcriptional and epigenetic landscape with normal renal stem cells.1 Although several studies have shown the positive associations between WT in children and embryonic exposure to adverse environments, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Altered epigenetics is central to oncogenesis in many pediatric cancers. The critical contribution of epigenetic dysregulation to pediatric tumors provides a compelling rationale for the therapeutic potential of epigenetic drugs. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) and Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (EZH2, a histone H3K27 methyltransferase), have been demonstrated to play a critical role in self-renewal and differentiation of mouse NPCs.2,3 In addition, altered expression and mutations of HDACs and EZH2 have been linked to many human cancers, including WT. Thus, they are among the most promising therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. We reasoned that WT would result from the unrestrained proliferation of progenitor cells due to overactive HDAC1/2 (HDAC1 and HDAC2), and EZH2. We tested this hypothesis by analyzing a clinical specimen received from the left kidney tumor of an 11-year-old male patient diagnosed with WT and four other human WT specimens. In this study,four commercially available bio-derived epoxy systems(extracted from cashew nutshell liquid)were prepared and *** glass transition temperature(Tg),dielectric spectroscopy,DC conductivity and breakdown properties of these epoxy resins were *** scanning calorimetry(DSC)demonstrated that the T_(g) of the investigated systems ranged from 67 to 122°*** DC conductivity was very low(<10^(-16) S cm^(-1))and comparable to the conventional dielectrics at room temperature(RT).However,all systems showed a strong temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity and exhibited sharp increase around their respective T_(g).Arrhenius analysis led to activation energy,E_(a),values around 1 eV;higher E_(a) values were observed in systems with a lower T_(g).Dielectric spectroscopy revealed a flat and low response at temperature below T_(g).However,both the real and imaginary permittivity increased with decreasing frequency at mid to low frequencies as the temperatures approached T_(g).The variations of AC breakdown strength of all samples were not statistically significant,but the DC breakdown strength of sample 2503Aþ2002B was higher than the others,which might be due to reduced charge transport in this *** results indicate that novel bio-derived epoxy systems from renewable sources are potential alternatives for traditional petroleum-based epoxy systems in certain insulation applications.

Investment and construction of power infrastructure are directly related to the achievement of sustainable development ***'s trade and investment with BRI(Belt and Road Initiative)countries have maintained growth *** development and construction of these investment projects certainly have impacts on the economic development mode and sustainable development goals of the *** collecting the basic information of the renewable energy investment projects,this paper compares and calculates the current power technology structure and grid emission factors of the host countries,and analyses the carbon emission level of electricity generation from the perspective of the whole life *** it as the benchmark,this paper also analyzes the current China's invested wind and solar energy projects and the carbon emission reduction benefits to the host *** results show that at present,China has about 36 renewable energy investment projects in BRI countries,with an installed capacity of 15.75GW(China as the project owner or investor),and achieve at least 48.69M tCO2 emission *** shows that China's effective investment and implementation of the green projects will provide a strong impetus for the energy transformation and the improvement of their energy security in BRI countries.
