In Africa, the prevalence of diabetes is escalating and remains a concern due to the numerous complications it causes. Vascular damage associated with diabetes leads to a prothrombotic state observed in diabetic individuals. Diabetes is a complex and multifactorial disease involving genetic components. With the aim of preventing complications and contributing to an efficient management of diabetes, we investigated genes likely to lead to a risk of thrombosis, in particular the C677T of MTHFR, G20210A of prothrombin, and R506Q of factor V Leiden in type 2 diabetics in Abidjan receiving ambulatory care. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on consenting type 2 diabetic patients. Mutation detection was carried out using the PCR-RFLP method employing restriction enzymes. Hemostasis tests (fibrinogen, D-dimers, fibrin monomers, and von Willebrand factor) were performed using citrate tubes on the Stage? Star Max automated system. Plasminogen activator inhibitor was assayed by ELISA method, and biochemical parameters were determined using the COBAS C311. The study population consisted of 45 diabetic patients, 51.1% of whom presented vascular complications, mainly neuropathy. Disturbances in hemostasis parameters were observed, with 15.5% of patients showing an increase in fibrin monomers. Mutation analysis revealed an absence of factor V mutation (factor V Leiden) and of G20210A mutation of the prothrombin gene. However, 15.6% of subjects had a heterozygous C677T mutation of MTHFR, with 57% of them being anemic. The exploration of biological and genetic factors associated with thrombotic risk is of significant interest in the optimal management of African type 2 diabetics.

Introduction: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs is a marker of advanced atherosclerosis. It is one of the world’s most common cardiovascular diseases, present in one in five people over the age of 60, and carries an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of patients and their carers about obliterative arteriopathy of the lower limbs at Conakry University Hospital. Material and Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 3 months, from March 12 to June 12, 2022 in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). Following free and informed consent, they were interviewed on the basis of a pre-established questionnaire. Socio-demographic data (age, gender, level of education) were collected, and knowledge of obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs. Results: The study involved 159 people, comprising 106 patients (66.66%) and 53 accompanying persons (33.34%) in the hospitals of the University Hospital of Conakry (Donka and Ignace Deen). The 60 to 79 age group was the most represented (44.7%), with an average age of 55.4 ± 15.9 years and extremes of 20 to 84 years. Half (47.8%) had not attended school, and almost all (96.4%) of those who had attended school had a low level of education (primary and secondary). Almost all of them (91.2%) had never heard of AOMI. Only 5% identified at least one risk factor, diabetes, hypertension and smoking. Amputation was the most frequently identified complication. About 98% did not know that AOMI is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke, and 93.7% did not know of any complications. Almost all the participants (99.4%) had poor knowledge of the following complications. Conclusion: Obliterative arterial disease of the lower limbs could be prevented or delayed by screening and controlling risk factors. In Ivory Coast,beekeeping takes an important place among the major economic activities.It contributes to improv-ing the population’s livelihoods thanks to its derived products which are honey,propolis,wax and royal jelly.How-ever,the installation of honey bee hives could put pressure on wild bee species,which often live solitary.However,these wild bees are excellent pollinators of cultivated and wild plants.The study aimed to assess the effect of honey bee hives on the diversity of wild bees.The methodology approach consisted of capturing bees in three different plots inside the forest fragment of the botanical garden located at the University Peleforo Gon Coulibaly.The first plot was chosen approximately from 10 m to an apiary containing ten hives.The two other plots were chosen to be 200 m and 400 m from the apiary,respectively.Bees were captured once a month for three months using pan traps(UV—blue,yellow and white).A total of 17 bee species belonging to three families(Apidae,Megachilidae and Halictidae)were identified.The furthest plot from the apiary was the most diverse(H’=2.49)and that near the apiary was the least diverse(H’=0.11).Only,two wild bee species,Hypotrigona sp.and Thrinchostoma petersi,persisted inside the plot nearby the apiary where honey bees were most abundant.The furthest plots from the apiary seem to have the highest diversity of wild bees.These findings are very relevant because they can be used for the policies of conservation of wild bees and the management of beekeeping activities.

Benzothiazole (BTH) and its derivatives are organic molecules with biologic actions. Because of their many applications, they are produced on a massive scale and used in a number of environmental compartments. Their discharge into water produces environmental problems, exposing our environment to public health problems. A solution that can contribute to their deterioration is becoming a necessity. For this reason, a conceptual analysis of the reactivity of benzothiazole and four of its compounds was undertaken in order to investigate certain aspects of their biodegradability. A theoretical investigations of the compounds studied were conducted in the gas and water phases with the most widely used density functional theory method, Becke-3-Parameter-Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP) with 6-31G+ (d, p) basis. Reactivity study calculated global indices of reactivity revealed that 2-SCH3_BTH is the most reactive. Dipole moment values analysis reveals that 2-NH2_BTH is the most soluble in water, while the lipophilicity shows that 2-NH2_BTH is the most hydrophilic compound. Thermodynamic parameters values reflect that reactions are respectively exothermic and spontaneous. By analyzing an Electrostatic Molecular Potential (EMP) map, researchers can pinpoint reactive sites on a molecule and anticipate its reactivity. This assessment is further enhanced by incorporating global and local reactivity descriptors. Additionally, an exploration of frontier molecular orbitals offers valuable insights into the molecule’s charge transfer characteristics. Moreover, a combined examination of internal and external molecular interactions unveils hyperconjugative interactions arising from charge delocalization, as elucidated through natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis.

Ebstein disease is a rare congenital malformation whose clinical presentation differs according to the anatomical form and age of the patient. In adults, it presents mainly in the form of right or global heart failure or rhythm disorders. Survival is exceptionally long in some forms. We report the case of a 70-year-old patient with Ebstein’s disease in right heart failure.

Effect of Biofertilizers on the Agromorphological Parameters of Three Okra Cultivars in Southern Côte d’Ivoire

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) is an herbaceous plant of the Malvaceae family. In Côte d’Ivoire, okra production is estimated to be over 193,000 tons. This low production is largely due to poor soils and hardly covers the needs of the population. To remedy this, growers systematically use mineral fertilizers. However, these fertilizers pollute the environment. To find an alternative to chemical fertilization and increase production, the effect of biofertilizers (Spaawet, Retone, Super Gro) compared with NPK mineral fertilizer was evaluated on Divo, Teriman, and Djonan F1 cultivars. The trial was set up in a factorial block design with three replications. Plant height, number of functional leaves, and crown diameter were assessed at 60 days after sowing (DAS). The time to 50% flowering, production time, and fruit yield were calculated. The results showed that the biofertilizer Retone induced the highest heights and number of functional leaves, with averages of 61.89 cm and 29.88 leaves, respectively. The diameter at the crown (17.77 mm) was highest with the NPK mineral fertilizer, and the shortest 50% flowering time, with an average of 47.61 days, was also obtained with the biofertilizer Retone. The NPK mineral fertilizer produced the longest production time, with an average of 35.25 days. The highest yields were obtained using Retone (11.07 t/ha) and NPK (9.52 t/ha) fertilizers. The “Divo*Retone” interaction produced the highest yield with an average of 12.19 t/ha. The biofertilizer Retone could therefore be used as an alternative fertilizer to chemical fertilization in okra crops, given its effect on the parameters assessed.

Cardiac myxoma is one of the primary intracardiac tumours. We report the case of a left atrial myxoma in a 26-year-old female patient admitted for investigation of dyspnoea. Echocardiography led to the diagnosis of a giant hypermobile myxoma prolapsing into the left ventricle. The patient died before being evacuated for surgical treatment.

Introduction: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) belongs to the very heterogeneous group of cardiomyopathies. This study aimed to study myocardial perfusion abnormalities on scintigraphy and assess the risk of sudden death from ventricular arrhythmia in hereditary sarcomeric HCM. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective and prospective descriptive study over 18 months (January 01, 2021, to July 31, 2022) on the records of patients over 18 with the diagnosis of hypertrophic sarcomeric cardiomyopathy with or without ventricular rhythm disorders and who have undergone myocardial scintigraphy. Results: Three patients were included. The average age of our patients was 66 years old. Dyspnea is the primary symptomatology found in our patients. One patient presented with syncope and unsustained ventricular tachycardia. His risk score for sudden death from ESC at five years is estimated at 6.45%, and the patient received an ICD in primary prevention. The average sudden death risk score of our patients was 3.78%. The mean LV wall thickness was 20 mm. The mean maximum left intraventricular gradient was 39 mmHg. Myocardial fibrosis was present in all our patients. Myocardial scintigraphy was normal in all cases. Conclusion: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a very heterogeneous group of cardiomyopathies. The rhythmic risk is multifactorial and constitutes a significant prognostic factor.

Supernumerary urethra in boys is a very rare anatomical entity. Sagittal urethral duplications are classified into four groups: epispadias, hypospadias, fusiform and Y-shaped urethra. The most widely used classification is that of Effmann and Lebowitz, which describes 6 types, one of the rarest being the ‘Y’ subtype IIA2, which corresponds to a duplicated urethral path from the vesical neck to an ectopic perineal or anal outlet. We report here the case of a 4-year-old child presenting with subtype IIA2 with a perineal orifice and no other urinary disorders.
