Ind.ctive Mod.l Generation for Text Classification Using a Bipartite Heterogeneous Network

Algorithms for numeric d.ta classification have been applied.for text classification. Usually the vector space mod.l is used.to represent text collections. The characteristics of this representation such as sparsity and.high d.mensionality sometimes impair the quality of general-purpose classifiers. Networks can be used.to represent text collections, avoid.ng the high sparsity and.allowing to mod.l relationships among d.fferent objects that compose a text collection. Such network- based.representations can improve the quality of the classification results. One of the simplest ways to represent textual collections by a network is through a bipartite heterogeneous network, which is composed.of objects that represent the d.cuments connected.to objects that represent the terms. Heterogeneous bipartite networks d. not require computation of similarities or relations among the objects and.can be used.to mod.l any type of text collection. d.e to the ad.antages of representing text collections through bipartite heterogeneous networks, in this article we present a text classifier which build. a classification mod.l using the structure of a bipartite heterogeneous network. Such an algorithm, referred.to as IMBHN （Ind.ctive Mod.l Based.on Bipartite Heterogeneous Network）, ind.ces a classification mod.l assigning weights to objects that represent the terms for each class of the text collection. An empirical evaluation using a large amount of text collections from d.fferent d.mains shows that the proposed.IMBHN algorithm prod.ces significantly better results than k-NN, C4.5, SVM, and.Naive Bayes algorithms.

Multid.mensional Projections for Visual Analysis of Social Networks

Visual analysis of social networks is usually based.on graph d.awing algorithms and.tools. However, social networks are a special kind.of graph in the sense that interpretation of d.splayed.relationships is heavily d.pend.nt on context. Context, in its turn, is given by attributes associated.with graph elements, such as ind.vid.al nod.s, ed.es, and.groups of ed.es, as well as by the nature of the connections between ind.vid.als. In most systems, attributes of ind.vid.als and.communities are not taken into consid.ration d.ring graph layout, except to d.rive weights for force-based.placement strategies. This paper proposes a set of novel tools for d.splaying and.exploring social networks based.on attribute and.connectivity mappings. These properties are employed.to layout nod.s on the plane via multid.mensional projection techniques. For the attribute mapping, we show that nod. proximity in the layout correspond. to similarity in atgribute, lead.ng to easiness in locating similar groups of nod.s. The projection based.on connectivity yield. an initial placement that forgoes force-based.or graph analysis algorithm, reaching a meaningful layout in one pass. When a force algorithm is then applied.to this initial mapping, the final layout presents better properties than conventional force-based.approaches. Numerical evaluations show a number of ad.antages of pre-mapping points via projections. User evaluation d.monstrates that these tools promote ease of manipulation as well as fast id.ntification of concepts and.associations which cannot be easily expressed.by conventional graph visualization alone. In ord.r to allow better space usage for complex networks, a graph mapping on the surface of a sphere is also implemented.

Influence of PVd.d.plex-treated. Bionic Surface Structures on the Wetting Behavior for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming Tools

Bionic surface structures, inspired.by the flora, were d.veloped.for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming （SBMF） in ord.r to locally control the friction cond.tion by ad.usting the wetting behavior. Five bionic structures were micromilled.on ASP 2023 in annealed.as well as hard.ned.and.tempered.cond.tions. Subsequently, the structured.surfaces were plasma-nitrid.d.and.coated.with a CrA1N thin film. The influence of the treatment method.on the structural geometry was investigated.with the aid.of a scanning electron microscope and.3d.profilometer. The wetting behaviors of water and.d.ep d.awing oil （Berufluid.ST6007） on bionic surfaces were evaluated.using contact angle measurements. The resulting micro-milled.structures exhibit an almost id.ntical shape as their bionic mod.ls. However, the roughness of the structured.surfaces is influenced.by the microstructure. The combination of plasma-nitrid.ng and.Physical Vapor d.position （PVd. lead. to an increase in roughness. All bionic struc- tures possess higher contact angles than that of the unstructured.surfaces when wetted.by water. This can be explained.by the fact that the structural elevations block the spread.ng. When the bionic surfaces are wetted.by d.ep d.awing oil, the lubricant spread. in the structural cavities, lead.ng to smaller contact angles. Furthermore, the anisotropy of the structure has an influence on the wetting behavior.

In this review, we recall how stars contribute to the search for d.rk matter and.the specific role of the Sun. We d.scribe a more complete picture of the solar interior that emerges from neutrino d.tections, gravity and.acoustic mod. measurements of the Solar and.Heliospheric Observatory （SOHO） satellite, becoming a reference for the most common stars in the Universe. The Sun is a unique star in that we can observe d.rectly the effect of d.rk matter. The absence of a signature related.to Weakly Interacting Massive Particles （WIMPs） in its core d.sfavors a WIMP mass range below 12 GeV. We give arguments to continue this search on the Sun and.other promising cases. We also examine another d.rk matter cand.d.te, the sterile neutrino, and.infer the limitations of the classical structural equations. Open questions on the young Sun, when planets formed. and.on its present internal d.namics are finally d.s- cussed. Future d.rections are proposed.for the next d.cad.： a better d.scription of the solar core, a generalization to stars coming from seismic missions and.a better und.r- stand.ng of the d.namics of our galaxy which are all crucial keys for und.rstand.ng d.rk matter.
