The study evaluated the effectiveness of honey dressings in healing recent skin wounds with soft tissue loss on limbs. Conducted over a year with 60 patients, results showed a significant reduction in wound size and early healing, with complete recovery on average within 29 days. The study supports honey as a viable wound treatment.

Water stress early detection is essential for precision farming to improve crop productivity and product quality. The methods usually used are destructive, long and expensive. In this work, we used hyperspectral chlorophyll fluorescence technology as a rapid, non-destructive approach to detect the water deficiency of eggplant plants using their spectral footprint. So, an experiment was made on 54 eggplant plants subjected to three water treatments: normal irrigation (T100), intermediate irrigation (T50) and no irrigation (T0). The fluorescence spectra were acquired in vivo and in situ using a USB4000 spectrometer from Ocean optics. For the classification of the plants subjected to three water treatments, we used three pretreatments of the raw hyperspectral data in order to suppress the non-informative variability present in these spectra and to obtain robust models. These are the Savitzky-Golay smoothing (SG), the standard normal variable (SNV) and the first derivative of Savitzky-Golay (SG-D1). The preprocessed data were then subjected to two partial least squares discriminant analyses (PLS-DA): Hard PLS-DA and Soft PLS-DA. These statistical approaches are suitable for large samples as it reduces the dimensionality of the data but improves the accuracy of the prediction. The SG-D1 combined with the Soft PLS-DA gave the best discrimination of plants with scores of sensitivity, specificity and total efficiency respectively of 97.33%, 94% and 95% for calibration, 6 days after hydric stress induction. For the plants used for the prediction, the scores are 86%, 91% and 90% respectively. This study shows that hyperspectral chlorophyll fluorescence spectroscopy is a fast and non-destructive technology allowing early detection of water stress in eggplant plants.

Rice yellow mottle is considered the most destructive disease threatening rice production in Africa. Early detection of this infection in rice is essential to limit its expansion and proliferation. However, there is no research devoted to the spectral detection of rice yellow mottle virus (RYMV) infection, especially in the asymptomatic or early stages. This work proposes the use of hyperspectral fluorescence and reflectance data at leaf level for the detection of this disease in asymptomatic stages. A greenhouse experiment was therefore conducted to collect hyperspectral fluorescence and reflectance data at different stages of infection. These data allowed to calculate nine vegetation indices: one from fluorescence spectra and eight from reflectance spectra. A t-test made it possible to identify, from the second day after infection, four relevant reflectance vegetation indices to discriminate healthy leaves from those infected: these are Photochemical Reflectance Index (PRI), Transformed Chlorophyll Absorption in Reflectance Index (TCARI), Structure Intensive Pigment Index (SIPI) and Simple Ratio Pigment Index (SRPI). The fluorescence index was less sensitive in detecting infection. The four significant vegetation indices for the detection of RYMV were then used to build and evaluate models for discriminating plants according to their health status by the supervised classification of support vector machine (SVM) at different stages of infection. The maximum overall accuracy is 92.5% six days after inoculation (6 DAI). The sixth day after inoculation would be the adequate day to detect RYMV. This plants discrimination was validated by the mean reflectance spectra and by the histograms showing the differences between the average reflectance vegetation indices values of the two types of plants. Aim: Describe the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic particularities of craniofacial trauma by encornment. Type of study: This was a retrospective and descriptive study. Material and methods: It took place in the surgical emergency departments of Bouaké (Côte d’Ivoire) University Hospital from January 2013 to December 2017, for a period of 5 years. It focused on patients of 0 to 5 years old admitted for craniofacial trauma involving the horn of a bovine. Results: Of the 26 cases of traumatic encornment, 11 were craniofacial location (42%). There were 9 male and 2 female victims. The average age was 10.54 years with extremes of 6 months and 24 years. Patients came from rural areas of Côte d’Ivoire. Bovids were responsible for all causal encornements. The lesions involved the scalp (3 cases) and the face (8 cases). The lesions were cutaneous-musculo skeletal in 7 cases. The surgical treatment included debridement associated to a suture in all cases and associated with maxillo mandibular blockage in 3 cases and duro-cranioplasty in one case. Conclusion: In the local context, facial cranio traumatism by encornement is rare and seems to be essentially infantile, masculine and rural problem.

Retinoblastoma (RB) treatment aims at saving the life and preserving useful vision. In most low-income countries, because of delays in diagnosis, advanced disease presentation is quite common. This prospective study aimed at evaluating the treatment results of orbital RB with regards to overall survival rate of the patients treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The study was performed from 01 November 2011 to 31 December 2015 in the paediatric oncology unit of Gabriel Touré Teaching Hospital, Bamako, Mali and The Institute of Tropical Ophthalmology of Africa (IOTA), Bamako, Mali. All intra-orbital non-metastatic RB cases not previously treated by chemotherapy or radiotherapy were included in this study. Fourteen patients were included into the study. Median age was 2 years, and sex ratio 2.5 (M = 10;F = 4). Right eye (n = 12, 85.7%) was more often affected than left eye (n = 2;14.3%). Chemotherapy toxicities were mainly haematological including grade 3 anemia (n = 2;7%) and grade 4 neutropenia (n = 3;11%). Twelve patients (86%) were enucleated after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Two patients (14%) abandoned treatment before enucleation. The IRSS pathology staging was: stage IIIa in 6 patients (50%), and stage II in six patients (50%). Six children (43%) received orbital radiotherapy at total dose of 45 Gy;Six children (43%) achieved complete remission;Overall survival rate was 48% at 4 years (95% CI: 22.5% - 74.4%). In conclusion, the therapeutic strategy based on neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by enucleation, adjuvant chemotherapy and external beam radiotherapy, was beneficial in patients with stage III disease, achieving an event-free survival rate of 48%.

In Mali, breast cancer remains a real health problem in the absence of an adequate and adapted health policy for their early diagnosis and their often late or even non-existent treatment. Objectives: This study aimed to study the epidemiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of breast cancer to write the clinical aspects of breast cancer in the gynecology-obstetrics department of the CHU Gabriel Touré from 2020 to 2022. Methodology: This was a retrospective and descriptive study of 219 cases of breast cancer that were diagnosed in the gynecology and obstetrics department of the CHU Gabriel Touré in Bamako, from 2020 to 2022. Results: The annual frequency was 77.2 cases per year, the average age 45.55 years with extremes of 16 to 85 years;housewives represented 92.7%;multiparas were reported at 57%. Considering the history, the personal history of benign breast pathology was 55.6%. Regarding the localization, the left breast was the most affected with 53.9%, and the tumor was found in the supero-external quadrant in 53.9%. The cancer was metastatic in 81.28%. The diagnosis biopsy + histology contributed to 98.6%. The histological type was invasive carcinoma of non-specific type in 95%. As for the histoprognostic grade of SBR studied, grade II was predominant at 46%, grade III at 34.95%. The therapeutic strategy was chemotherapy in 83.1%. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery in 10%, primary surgery in 6.4%, radiotherapy in 0.5%. Conclusion: The major challenges in the fight against breast cancer in Mali remain a better organization of the system for early diagnosis, the establishment of a screening program, early diagnosis in women from the age of 40 and also adequate care.
