AIM：To assess the proportion of refractive errors in the Mexican population that visited primary care optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico. METHODS：Refractive data from 676 856 patients aged 6 to 90 y were collected from optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico between 2014 and 2015. The refractive errors were classified by the spherical equivalent（SE）, as follows：sphere＋？ cylinder. Myopia（SE〉-0.50 D）, hyperopia（SE〉＋0.50 D）, emmetropia（-0.50≤SE≤＋0.50）, and astigmatism alone（cylinder≥-0.25 D）. A negative cylinder was selected as a ***：The proportion（95% confidence interval） among all of the subjects was hyperopia 21.0%（20.9-21.0）, emmetropia 40.7%（40.5-40.8）, myopia 24.8%（24.7-24.9） and astigmatism alone 13.5%（13.4-13.5）. Myopia was the most common refractive error and frequency seemed to increase among the young population（10 to 29 years old）, however, hyperopia increased among the aging population（40 to 79 years old）, and astigmatism alone showed a decreasing trend with age（6 to 90y; from 19.7% to 10.8%）. There was a relationship between age and all refractive errors（approximately 60%, aged 50 and older）. The proportion of any clinically important refractive error was higher in males（61.2%） than in females（58.3%; P〈0.0001）. From fourteen states that collected information, the proportion of refractive error showed variability in different geographical areas of ***：Myopia is the most common refractive error in the population studied. This study provides the first data on refractive error in Mexico. Further programs and studies must be developed to address the refractive errors needs of the Mexican population.

BACKGROUND Dyskeratosis congenita is a rare disease characterized by bone marrow failure and a clinical triad of oral leukoplakia,nail dystrophy,and abnormal skin *** genetics of dyskeratosis congenita include mutations in genes involved in telomere maintenance,including *** SUMMARY Here,we report a female patient who presented thrombocytopenia,anemia,reticulate hyperpigmentation,dystrophy in fingernails and toenails,and leukoplakia on the tongue.A histopathological study of the skin showed dyskeratocytes;however,a bone marrow biopsy revealed normal cell *** patient was diagnosed with dyskeratosis congenita,but her family history did not reveal significant ***-exome sequencing showed a novel heterozygous punctual mutation in exon 6 from the TINF2 gene,namely,NM_001099274.1:-c.854delp.(Val285-Alafs*32).An analysis of telomere length showed short telomeres relative to the patient’s *** The disease in this patient was caused by a germline novel mutation of TINF2 in one of her parents.

Authors and Open Access:Effective Ways to Achieve OA in China

Although there are effective methods available to authors for providing open access to their work, more than half are still not doing so and provision in China is poorer than in many other countries. There are a number of issues and concerns that dissuade authors from making their work open access: some are still unaware of the concept and of the increased visibility and impact that open access brings; many are unfamiliar with open access journals and how they work; many are uninformed about self-archiving and for some of those who are aware of the possibility of providing open access by this means, concerns about copyright and technical issues *** all these worries can be addressed with simple facts that reassure and encourage authors to adopt open access to benefit themselves,their research and their teaching. There is also a wealth of resources now available to authors that provide information and advice on open access and its effects. As institutions and research funders, both with a strong interest in maximising the visibility and impact of research they support, begin to develop formal policies on open access, models for its provision are emerging. The optimal model is a frills' variant) or by service providers who add functionality or selectivity to provide users with value-enhanced products.

The effect of fasting and body reserves on cola tolerance in 2 pit-building insect predators

Pit-building antlions and wormlions are 2 distantly-related insect species, whose larvae construct pits in loose soil to trap small arthropod prey. This convergent evolution of natural histories has led to additional similarities in their natural history and ecology, and thus, these 2 species encounter similar abiotic stress （such as periodic starvation） in their natural habitat. Here, we measured the cold tolerance of the 2 species and examined whether recent feeding or food deprivation, as well as body composition （body mass and lipid content） and condition （quantified as mass-to-size residuals） affect their cold tolerance. In contrast to other insects, in which food deprivation either enhanced or impaired cold tolerance, prolonged fasting had no effect on the cold tolerance of either species, which had similar cold tolerance. The 2 species differed, however, in how cold tolerance related to body mass and lipid content： although body mass was positively correlated with the wormlion cold tolerance, lipid content was a more reliable predictor of cold tolerance in the antlions. Cold tolerance also underwent greater change with ontogeny in wormlions than in antlions. We discuss possible reasons for this lack of effect of food deprivation on both species＇ cold tolerance, such as their high starvation tolerance （being sit-and-wait predators）.

Marine Metagenome as A Resource for Novel Enzymes

More than 99% of identified prokaryotes, including many from the marine environment, cannot be cultured in the laboratory. This lack of capability restricts our knowledge of microbial genetics and community ecology. Metagenomics, the culture-independent cloning of environmental DNAs that are isolated directly from an environmental sample, has already provided a wealth of information about the uncultured microbial world. It has also facilitated the discovery of novel bio- catalysts by allowing researchers to probe directly into a huge diversity of enzymes within natural microbial communities. Recent advances in these studies have led to a great interest in recruiting microbial enzymes for the development of environmentally-friendly industry. Although the metage- nomics approach has many limitations, it is expected to provide not only scientific insights but also economic benefits, especially in industry. This review highlights the importance of metagenomics in mining microbial lipases, as an example, by using high-throughput techniques. In addition, we dis- cuss challenges in the metagenomics as an important part of bioinformatics analysis in big data.

Radio-Frequency IDentification(RFID)technology is an essential enabler of a multitude of intelligent *** robust authentication of RFID system components is critical in providing trustworthy data delivery from/to *** this paper,we propose an authentication protocol based on monitoring the transmissions between readers and tags in the *** proposed authentication scheme is based on injecting decoys within the exchanged communications(between RFID readers and tags)and is used in the authentication ***,the proposed authentication scheme is mathematically modeled and validated using extensive *** simulations results show that the proposed scheme provides a 100%confidence level in the authentication of tags and detection of compromised readers.

Complementary exponential geometric distribution has many applications in survival and reliability *** to its importance,in this study,we are aiming to estimate the parameters of this model based on progressive type-II censored *** do this,we applied the stochastic expectation maximization method and Newton-Raphson techniques for obtaining the maximum likelihood *** also considered the estimation based on Bayesian method using several approximate:MCMC samples,Lindely approximation and Metropolis-Hasting *** addition,we considered the shrinkage estimators based on Bayesian and maximum likelihood ***,the HPD intervals for the parameters are constructed based on the posterior samples from the Metropolis-Hasting *** the sequel,we obtained the performance of different estimators in terms of biases,estimated risks and Pitman closeness via Monte Carlo simulation *** paper will be ended up with a real data set example for illustration of our purpose.

Evolving Decision Rules to Predict Investment Opportunities

This paper is motivated by the interest in finding significant movements in financial stock prices. However, when the number of profitable opportunities is scarce, the prediction of these cases is difficult. In a previous work, we have introduced evolving decision rules （EDR） to detect financial opportunities. The objective of EDR is to classify the minority class （positive eases） in imbalaneed environments. EDR provides a range of classifications to find the best balance between not making mistakes and not missing opportunities. The goals of this paper are： 1） to show that EDR produces a range of solutions to suit the investor＇s preferences and 2） to analyze the factors that benefit the performance of EDR. A series of experiments was performed. EDR was tested using a data set from the London Financial Market. To analyze the EDR behaviour, another experiment was carried out using three artificial data sets, whose solutions have different levels of complexity. Finally, an illustrative example was provided to show how a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced data sets. Experimental results show that： 1） EDR offers a range of solutions to fit the risk guidelines of different types of investors, and 2） a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced environments.

Sustainability of microporous polymers and their applications

Microporous polymers(MPs) are studied for their intriguing chemistry and physics as well as their potential application in catalytic transformations, gas-separation processes, water purification and so on. Here, we critically review MPs with respect to the sustainability aspects of their synthesis as well as their applications that have sustainable character. Some MPs have been synthesized from monomers derived from biomass resources, but there is certainly a large potential for further *** are also opportunities to improve the sustainability of MP synthesis in terms of the use of solvents, catalysts, and related aspects. The applications of MPs in processes related to sustainability depend upon multiple properties. A rich and flexible chemistry is important to applications as catalysts for, among other useful reactions, the photoreduction of CO_2 and selective oxidation. The(ultra)micropore volume of MPs are crucial in gas-separation applications such as CO_2 capture, and the chemisorption of CO_2 on MP-tethered alkylamines could offer a means to remove that gas from dilute mixtures. When it comes to the storage of H_2 and CH_4 in MPs for onboard use in fuel cell or biogas cars, volumetric capacity is paramount, meaning that the density of the MPs must be considered. Finally, for use in separation and purifications from liquid mixtures(aqueous or hydrocarbon-based), crosslinked MPs are more limited than the solution-processable MPs that can be more easily processed into films and membranes.

Dear editors, We report an exceedingly rare case of primary testicular angioleio- myoma to increase awareness of this rare entity among urologists and pathologists. To our knowledge, only one case of this rare testicular tumour has been reported in the literature to date, and this is the first report of its presentation with haematospermia.1 A 65-year-old patient was admitted to our clinic for the evaluation of painless haematospermia. The patient＇s past medical history was unremarkable. At presentation and during the scrotal and testis exam- ination, there was no palpable mass. The patient had no voiding symptoms, and there were no signs of infection. The patient also denied experiencing any recent trauma. A digital rectal examination of the prostate was normal. The ultrasonographic findings disclosed a well-circumscribed ovoid hypoechoic nodule within the right testis, near its upper pole, measuring approximately 0.5 cm, and moderate hydrocele （Figure la）. The values of serum prostate-specific antigen, alpha-fetoprotein, beta-human chorionic gonadotropin and lactate dehydrogenase were normal.
