Evaluation of pig oocyte in vitro maturation and fertilization using three gonadotropin-based hormonal compounds

Objective:To evaluate the effect of human chorionic gonadotropins(hCG)and equine chorionic gonadotropins(eCG)on in vitro gilt oocyte maturation and embryonic development,using frozen semen for ***:Two independent experiments(6 replicates each)were carried out to evaluate gilt oocyte maturation,and fertilization and embryonic development by using ovaries from a local ***,712 oocytes were randomly distributed in four-well dishes to receive Novormon(eCG 5.0 IU),PG600(eCG 5.0 IU and hCG 2.5 IU),chorulon(hCG 5.0 IU),or no *** were incubated with 5%CO2,95%air and saturation humidity at 39℃for 44 *** of the oocytes to metaphaseⅡwas assessed by using the aceto-orcein *** addition,741 oocytes were used and randomly distributed in four-well dishes,and then oocyte maturation was carried out as mentioned,but matured oocytes were washed and placed in fertilization medium with frozen-thawed *** were co-incubated for 7 h,and then washed and placed in development medium,and incubated for further 7 days,at which time embryonic development was *** and embryo development media were not supplemented with the studied ***:Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)treatments significantly improved the percentages of metaphaseⅡoocytes compared to the control group(P<0.05).Furthermore,a significant increase was also observed in the young blastocyst stage between the control group and the PG600 treatment group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Hormonal products Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)can obtain the highest percentages of in vitro maturation in gilt oocytes;however,this effect is not transferred to fertilization rates.

Authors and Open Access:Effective Ways to Achieve OA in china

Although there are effective methods available to authors for providing open access to their work, more than half are still not doing so and provision in china is poorer than in many other countries. There are a number of issues and concerns that dissuade authors from making their work open access: some are still unaware of the concept and of the increased visibility and impact that open access brings; many are unfamiliar with open access journals and how they work; many are uninformed about self-archiving and for some of those who are aware of the possibility of providing open access by this means, concerns about copyright and technical issues *** all these worries can be addressed with simple facts that reassure and encourage authors to adopt open access to benefit themselves,their research and their teaching. There is also a wealth of resources now available to authors that provide information and advice on open access and its effects. As institutions and research funders, both with a strong interest in maximising the visibility and impact of research they support, begin to develop formal policies on open access, models for its provision are emerging. The optimal model is a frills' variant) or by service providers who add functionality or selectivity to provide users with value-enhanced products.

The effect of fasting and body reserves on cola tolerance in 2 pit-building insect predators

Pit-building antlions and wormlions are 2 distantly-related insect species, whose larvae construct pits in loose soil to trap small arthropod prey. This convergent evolution of natural histories has led to additional similarities in their natural history and ecology, and thus, these 2 species encounter similar abiotic stress （such as periodic starvation） in their natural habitat. Here, we measured the cold tolerance of the 2 species and examined whether recent feeding or food deprivation, as well as body composition （body mass and lipid content） and condition （quantified as mass-to-size residuals） affect their cold tolerance. In contrast to other insects, in which food deprivation either enhanced or impaired cold tolerance, prolonged fasting had no effect on the cold tolerance of either species, which had similar cold tolerance. The 2 species differed, however, in how cold tolerance related to body mass and lipid content： although body mass was positively correlated with the wormlion cold tolerance, lipid content was a more reliable predictor of cold tolerance in the antlions. Cold tolerance also underwent greater change with ontogeny in wormlions than in antlions. We discuss possible reasons for this lack of effect of food deprivation on both species＇ cold tolerance, such as their high starvation tolerance （being sit-and-wait predators）.

Marine Metagenome as A Resource for Novel Enzymes

More than 99% of identified prokaryotes, including many from the marine environment, cannot be cultured in the laboratory. This lack of capability restricts our knowledge of microbial genetics and community ecology. Metagenomics, the culture-independent cloning of environmental DNAs that are isolated directly from an environmental sample, has already provided a wealth of information about the uncultured microbial world. It has also facilitated the discovery of novel bio- catalysts by allowing researchers to probe directly into a huge diversity of enzymes within natural microbial communities. Recent advances in these studies have led to a great interest in recruiting microbial enzymes for the development of environmentally-friendly industry. Although the metage- nomics approach has many limitations, it is expected to provide not only scientific insights but also economic benefits, especially in industry. This review highlights the importance of metagenomics in mining microbial lipases, as an example, by using high-throughput techniques. In addition, we dis- cuss challenges in the metagenomics as an important part of bioinformatics analysis in big data.

Melatonin is a pleiotropic molecule that,after a short-term sleep deprivation,promotes the proliferation of neural stem cells in the adult ***,this effect has not been observed in long-term sleep *** precise mechanism exerted by melatonin on the modulation of neural stem cells is not entirely elucidated,but evidence indicates that epigenetic regulators may be involved in this *** this study,we investigated the effect of melatonin treatment during a 96-hour sleep deprivation and analyzed the expression of epigenetic modulators predicted by computational text mining and keyword *** results showed that the administration of melatonin under sleep-deprived conditions increased the MECP2 expression and reduced the SIRT1 expression in the dentate *** observed that let-7 b,mir-132,and mir-124 were highly expressed in the dentate gyrus after melatonin administration,but they were not modified by sleep *** addition,we found more Sox2^+/5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridine(BrdU)^+cells in the subgranular zone of the sleep-deprived group treated with melatonin than in the untreated *** findings may support the notion that melatonin modifies the expression of epigenetic mediators that,in turn,regulate the proliferation of neural progenitor cells in the adult dentate gyrus under long-term sleep-deprived *** procedures performed in this study were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the University of Guadalajara,Mexico(approval ***-16610)on January 2,2016.

Radio-Frequency IDentification(RFID)technology is an essential enabler of a multitude of intelligent *** robust authentication of RFID system components is critical in providing trustworthy data delivery from/to *** this paper,we propose an authentication protocol based on monitoring the transmissions between readers and tags in the *** proposed authentication scheme is based on injecting decoys within the exchanged communications(between RFID readers and tags)and is used in the authentication ***,the proposed authentication scheme is mathematically modeled and validated using extensive *** simulations results show that the proposed scheme provides a 100%confidence level in the authentication of tags and detection of compromised readers.

Complementary exponential geometric distribution has many applications in survival and reliability *** to its importance,in this study,we are aiming to estimate the parameters of this model based on progressive type-II censored *** do this,we applied the stochastic expectation maximization method and Newton-Raphson techniques for obtaining the maximum likelihood *** also considered the estimation based on Bayesian method using several approximate:MCMC samples,Lindely approximation and Metropolis-Hasting *** addition,we considered the shrinkage estimators based on Bayesian and maximum likelihood ***,the HPD intervals for the parameters are constructed based on the posterior samples from the Metropolis-Hasting *** the sequel,we obtained the performance of different estimators in terms of biases,estimated risks and Pitman closeness via Monte Carlo simulation *** paper will be ended up with a real data set example for illustration of our purpose.

Evolving Decision Rules to Predict Investment Opportunities

This paper is motivated by the interest in finding significant movements in financial stock prices. However, when the number of profitable opportunities is scarce, the prediction of these cases is difficult. In a previous work, we have introduced evolving decision rules （EDR） to detect financial opportunities. The objective of EDR is to classify the minority class （positive eases） in imbalaneed environments. EDR provides a range of classifications to find the best balance between not making mistakes and not missing opportunities. The goals of this paper are： 1） to show that EDR produces a range of solutions to suit the investor＇s preferences and 2） to analyze the factors that benefit the performance of EDR. A series of experiments was performed. EDR was tested using a data set from the London Financial Market. To analyze the EDR behaviour, another experiment was carried out using three artificial data sets, whose solutions have different levels of complexity. Finally, an illustrative example was provided to show how a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced data sets. Experimental results show that： 1） EDR offers a range of solutions to fit the risk guidelines of different types of investors, and 2） a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced environments.
