Purpose. Group B Stre.tococcus (GBS) infe.tion is a major cause.of ne.natal se.sis. The.obje.tive.of this study was to e.timate.the.pre.ale.ce.and risk factors for GBS carrie.ship among parturie.t wome. in Je.usale.. Me.hods: A cross-se.tional study of 436 parturie.t Je.ish wome. at Hadassah-He.re. Unive.sity Me.ical Ce.te., Mount Scopus. The.study include. patie.t inte.vie. and vagino-re.tal swab for culture. Main outcome.me.sure. we.e.the.pre.ale.ce.of GBS carrie.ship among study population. Re.ults: Of the.436 participants, 77 had a positive.culture.for GBS, giving a carrie. rate.of 17.7%. No diffe.e.ce. we.e.found be.we.n carrie.s and non-carrie.s in age. BMI or parity. Orthodox Je.ish wome. had a significantly highe. carrie. rate.compare. with se.ular Je.ish wome. (20.6% vs. 12.8% re.pe.tive.y), yie.ding an age. e.ucation and BMI adjuste. odds ratio (OR) of 1.9 (95% confide.ce.inte.val (CI): 1.06 - 3.40). Similarly, ritual imme.sion was associate. with incre.se. risk of carrie. state.with an adjuste. OR of 2.01 (95% CI: 1.03 - 3.92, P = 0.039). Conclusions: Our study sugge.ts an association be.we.n ritual imme.sion in the.Mikve. and GBS carrie.ship.

Rainfall, throughfall and ste.flow we.e.me.sure. and canopy inte.ce.tion loss was de.ive. for 14 rainfall e.e.ts from June.22 to August 30, 2008 within a mature.de.lining hybrid white.spruce.（Pice. glauca （Moe.ch） Voss x p e.ge.mannii Parry e. e.ge.m.） - subalpine.fir （Abie. lasiocarpa （Hook.） Nutt.） - lodge.ole.pine.（Pinus contorta vat. latifolia Dougl. e. Loud.） stand in south-ce.tral British Columbia, Can- ada. Ste.flow was ne.ligible.during the.study pe.iod, while. re.pe.tive.y throughfall and canopy inte.ce.tion loss accounte. for approximate.y 59.4% and 40.6% of the.50.1 mm of cumulative.rainfall. Throughfall variability was asse.se. with thre. approache. involving roving and stationary we.ge.type.gauge., and stationary trough gauge.. Throughfall e.hibite. large.spatial variability with the.coe.ficie.t of variability of study pe.iod throughfall sample. using 16 stationary trough gauge. be.ng 30.3%, while.it was 38.0% and 28.7% for 32 stationary and 32 roving we.ge.gauge., re.pe.tive.y. Our analysis sugge.ts that a roving gauge.me.hod is be.te. than a stationary approach since.the.e.rors associate. with e.e.t me.n throughfalls are.summe. quadratically and a gre.te. portion of the.canopy are. is sample.. Ste.flow is a focuse. point source.input of pre.ipitation and nutrie.ts at the.base.of a tre. or plant and can have.a significant impact on site.hydrology. To date. no known studie. have.mode.le. ste.flow production for juve.ile.lodge.ole.pine.（Pinus contorta vat. latifolia）. Me.e.rological conditions, tre. characte.istics, and ste.flow we.e.sample. for two juve.ile.lodge.ole.pine.stands ove. the.course.of the.2009 growing se.son. Ste.-wise.multiple.re.re.sion was use. to asse.s which me.e.rological and tre. archite.ture.variable. influe.ce. ste.flow production for e.ch re.e.rch plot. Once.pre.ictor variable. we.e.ide.tifie., mode.s we.e.produce. for e.ch stand and a ge.e.ic mode. was produce. that applie. to both plots. A mode. e.ploying pre.ipitation de.th and crown proje.tion are. succe.sfully e.plaine. 71.3% of the.variation in ste.flow production from sample. tre.s. Ste.flow was found to re.re.e.t 1.8% of the.study pe.iod rainfall and, although not a large.compone.t of the.plot-scale.canopy wate. balance. it is an orde. of magnitude.gre.te. than the.fractioning of ste.flow from mature.lodge.ole.and lodge.ole.pine.dominate. fore.t. Additionally, ste.flow funne.ling ratios we.e.found to ave.age.22.2 and 24.3 from the.two sample.plots ove. the.study pe.iod with a single.tre., single.e.e.t maximum of 111.7 re.orde. for a tre. with a 3.3 cm bole.diame.e. and a rain de.th of 17.4 mm.

Although Tanzania has a large.land suitable.for irrigation de.e.opme.t, only 4.2% of the.arable.land which is pote.tial for irrigation has be.n de.e.ope.. Mbarali District is characte.ize. by comme.cial and small-scale.irrigation activitie. for paddy production. Curre.tly, surface.wate. availability for irrigation in Mbarali District is dwindling due.to high wate. de.ands. Inade.uate.studie. that e.timate.wate. availability for irrigation is one.of the.unde.lying factors to the.lack of irrigation de.e.opme.t in many parts of Tanzania including in Mbarali District. This study, the.e.ore. aime. to mode. surface.wate. availability for irrigation de.e.opme.t in Mbarali Rive. sub-catchme.t Mbe.a, Tanzania. The.Soil and Wate. Analysis Tool (SWAT) mode. and fie.d obse.vations we.e.use. to accomplish the.study. The.mode. e.timate. that Mbarali Rive. sub-catchme.t re.e.ve. about 631 mm of total me.n pre.ipitation annually. About 53% of re.e.ve. pre.ipitation is lost through e.apotranspiration, 12% re.harge. to de.p aquife. and the.re.aining 35% discharge. to the.stre.m flow through surface.runoff, late.al flow and re.urn flow from unconfine. aquife.. Discharge.to the.ste.m flow contribute. to the.total annual me.ns of rive. discharge.ranging from 0 - 10 cubic me.e.s pe. se.ond at uppe. catchme.t to 120 - 140 cubic me.e.s pe. se.ond at lowe. catchme.t. The.study re.omme.ds that the.lowe. re.ch of the.Mbarali Rive. sub-catchme.t is pote.tial for irrigation than the.uppe. re.ch as it has pote.tial rive. flow that can support irrigation activitie..
