The study of the propagation of infectious diseases in urban centers finds a close connection with their population's s.c.al characteristics and *** work performs a spatial analysis of dengue cases in urban centers based on the bas.c.reproduction numbers,R0,and incidence by planning areas(PAs),as well as their correlations with the Human Development Index(HDI)and the number of *** analyzed dengue epidemics in 2002 at two Brazilian urban centers,Belo Horizonte(BH)and Rio de Janeiro(RJ),using PAs as spatial *** results reveal heterogeneous spatial scenarios for both cities,with very weak correlations between R0 and both the number of trips and the HDI;in BH,the values of R0 show a less spatial heterogeneous pattern than in *** BH,there are moderate correlations between incidence and both the number of trips and the HDI;meanwhile,they weakly correlate for ***,the absence of strong correlations between the considered measures indicates that the transmission process should be treated considering the city as a whole.

Background:No studies have documented long-term trends in aboveground biomass(AGB)for mixed-dipterocarp forests(MDF),the dominant rain forest type in tropical wet equatorial *** our study,we sought to document s.c. trends over forty years across three sites representing lowland to lower montane ***:To do this,we established fifty 100 m×25 m plots in 1978 across three sites sampled along an elevation gradient,identified as mature old-growth *** measured trees for diameter at breast height that we identified to species and *** took wood samples to calculate species wood-specific *** re-measured plots in 1998 and again in ***:We show standing AGB for all sites.c.mbined to be 517.52 Mg·ha^(-1)in 1978,but this declined by 17%over 40 years to 430.11 Mg·ha^(-1).No differences exist among sites in AGB primarily because of considerable within site variation;but interactions of time with site show declines across sites were not uniform,one remained about the *** few species represented a high proportion of the AGB with the top five species.c.mprising between 34%and 65%,depending upon site and year *** species,Mesua nagassarium,represented a disproportionately large amount of AGB and decline over time,particularly at the low elevation ***:Our results are directly relevant to estimating AGB and standing carbon sequestered in *** study is the first to demonstrate varying but overall,declining trends in amounts of AGB among forests making predictions of biomass and standing carbon in MDF difficult over wide regions.

The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DsR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is.c.ucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DsR approach, leveraging advanced techniques s.c. as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mes.c.tyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DsR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features.c.ntribute to increased crop production in DsR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DsR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DsR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DsR practices.

Development of Palmprint Verification system Using Biometrics

Palmprint verification system using Biometrics is one of the emerging technologies, which recognizes a person based on the principle lines, wrinkles and ridges on the surface of the palm. These line structures are stable and remain unchanged throughout the life of an individual. More importantly, no two palmprints from different individuals are the same, and normally people do not feel uneasy to have their palmprint images taken for testing. Therefore palmprint recognition offers a promising future for medium-s.c.rity access.c.ntrol systems. In this paper, a new approach for personal authentication using hand images is discussed. Gray-scale palm images are captured using a digital camera at a resolution of 640×480. Each of these gray-scale images is aligned and then used to extract palmprint and hand geometry features. These features are then used for authenticating users. The image acquisition setup used here is inherently simple and it does not employ any special illumination nor does it use any pegs that might cause any inconvenience to users. Experimental results show that the designed system achieves an acceptable level of performance.

A survey on dependability improvement techniques for pervasive computing systems

The goal of this survey is to summarize the state-of-the-art research results and identify research challenges of developing and deploying dependable pervasive computing systems. We discuss the factors that affect the system dependability and the studies.c.nducted to improve it with respect to these factors. These studies were categorized according to their similarities and differences in hope of shedding some insight into future research. There are three categories: context management, fault detection, and uncertainty *** three categories of work address the three most difficult problems of pervasive computing systems. First,pervasive computing systems’ perceived environments, which are also called their contexts, can vary intensively,and thus have a great impact on the systems’ dependability. s.c.nd, it is.c.allenging to guarantee the correctness of the systems’ internal computations integrated with interactions with external environments for *** detection is then an important issue for improving dependability for these systems. Last but not least importantly, pervasive computing systems interact with their environments frequently. These interactions.c.n be affected by many uncertainties, which can jeopardize the systems’ dependability. After a discussion of these pieces of work, we present an outlook for its future research directions.

chinese Assam tea(camellia sinensis ***)is an important tea crop with a long history of cultivation in Yunnan,*** its potential value as a genetic resource,its genetic diversity and domestication/breeding history remain *** address this issue,we genotyped 469 ancient tea plant trees representing 26 *** *** populations,plus two of its wild relatives(six and three populations of *** and ***,respectively)using 16 nuclear microsatellite *** showed that chinese Assam tea has a relatively high,but comparatively lower gene diversity(H_(s)=0.638)than the wild relative ***(H_s=0.658).clustering in sTRUcTURE indicated that chinese Assam tea and its two wild relatives formed distinct genetic groups,with considerable interspecific *** chinese Assam tea accessions.c.ustered into three gene pools.c.rresponding well with their geographic ***,New Hybrids analysis indicated that 68.48%of ancient chinese Assam tea plants from Xishuangbanna were genetic intermediates between the Puer and Lincang gene *** addition,10%of the ancient chinese Assam tea individuals were found to be hybrids between chinese Assam tea and *** results suggest that chinese Assam tea was domesticated separately in three gene pools(Puer,Lincang and Xishuangbanna)in the Mekong River valley and that the hybrids were subsequently selected during the domestication *** the domestication history of chinese Assam tea in southwestern Yunnan remains.c.mplex,our results will help to identify valuable genetic resources that may be useful in future tea breeding programs.
