The goals of this study are to assess the viability of waste tire-derived char(WTDC)as a sustainable,low-cost fine aggregate surrogate material for asphalt mixtures and to develop the statistically coupled neural network(SCNN)model for predicting volumetric and Marshall properties of asphalt mixtures modified with *** study is based on experimental data acquired from laboratory volumetric and Marshall properties testing on WTDCmodified asphalt mixtures(WTDC-MAM).The input variables comprised waste tire char content and asphalt binder *** output variables comprised mixture unit weight,total voids,voids filled with asphalt,Marshall stability,and *** coupled neural networks were utilized to predict the volumetric and Marshall properties of asphalt *** predictive modeling,the SCNN model is employed,incorporating a three-layer neural network and preprocessing techniques to enhance accuracy and *** optimal network architecture,using the collected dataset,was a 2:6:5 structure,and the neural network was trained with 60%of the data,whereas the other 20%was used for cross-validation and testing *** network employed a hyperbolic tangent(tanh)activation function and a feed-forward *** to the results,the network model could accurately predict the volumetric and Marshall *** predicted accuracy of SCNN was found to be as high value>98%and low prediction errors for both volumetric and Marshall *** study demonstrates WTDC's potential as a low-cost,sustainable aggregate *** SCNN-based predictive model proves its efficiency and versatility and promotes sustainable practices.

The goals of this study are to assess the viability of waste tire-derived char(WTDC) as a sustainable, low-cost fine aggregate surrogate material for asphalt mixtures and to develop the statistically coupled neural network(SCNN)model for predicting volumetric and Marshall properties of asphalt mixtures modified with WTDC. The study is based on experimental data acquired from laboratory volumetric and Marshall properties testing on WTDC-modified asphalt mixtures(WTDC-MAM). The input variables comprised waste tire char content and asphalt binder content. The output variables comprised mixture unit weight, total voids, voids filled with asphalt,Marshall stability, and flow. Statistical coupled neural networks were utilized to predict the volumetric and Marshall properties of asphalt mixtures. For predictive modeling, the SCNN model is employed, incorporating a three-layer neural network and preprocessing techniques to enhance accuracy and reliability. The optimal network architecture, using the collected dataset, was a 2:6:5 structure, and the neural network was trained with 60% of the data, whereas the other 20% was used for cross-validation and testing respectively. The network employed a hyperbolic tangent(tanh) activation function and a feed-forward backpropagation. According to the results, the network model could accurately predict the volumetric and Marshall properties. The predicted accuracy of SCNN was found to be as high value >98% and low prediction errors for both volumetric and Marshall properties. This study demonstrates WTDC's potential as a low-cost, sustainable aggregate replacement. The SCNN-based predictive model proves its efficiency and versatility and promotes sustainable practices.

During the production of palm oil,a significant amount of waste is ***,because of inefficient handling and utilization,these wastes are becoming a larger *** a result,one initiative is to use these wastes in the pavement industry as sustainable ***,there is still a lack of understanding about the wider incorporation of palm oil waste in asphalt pavement and its *** study examines existing literature on the use of various wastes in the pavement industry,including palm oil clinker(POC),palm oil fibre(POF),palm kernel shell(PKS),and palm oil fuel ash(POFA).As a result,this paper presents a systematic review and scientometric investigation of related study publications on many uses of palm oil waste in the asphalt pavement industry and its performance from 2009 to *** VOS viewer application was used to conduct the sciento-metric study *** relationship between interactions detected in co-authored country studies cited sources of co-citation,and the keyword of the co-occurrence and publication source enabled the identification of the research *** to the systematic literature review,40%–60% POC can be used to fine aggregate for optimal performance,while 0–100%PKS can be used to replace coarse *** addition,50%–80% POFA or POC fine(POCF)can be used as a filler replacement,5%–8% POCF or POFA as a bitumen modifier,and 0.3% POF as a stabilizing ***,the study demonstrates that the safety of utilizing wastes with more than 50% CO_(2) emissions can be curtailed with minimal heavy metal leaching and radioactivity *** scientometric analysis may encourage researchers to seek out gaps in the literature that will aid in the long-term,multifaceted use of palm oil wastes in the asphalt pavement ***,the study recommends employing and researching the enormous potential of using palm oil waste in the pavement sectors because they are more sustainable and have better perfor

Estimation of the case fatality rate of COVID-19 epidemiological data in Nigeria using statistical regression analysis

Following the emergence of COVID-19 outbreak,numbers of studies have been conducted to curtail the global spread of the virus by identifying epidemiological changes of the disease through developing statistical models,estimation of the basic reproduction number,displaying the daily reports of confirmed and deaths cases,which are closely related to the present *** and comprehensive estimation method of the epidemiological data is required to understand the actual situation of fatalities caused by the *** fatality rate(CFR)is one of the cardinal epidemiological parameters that adequately explains epidemiology of the outbreak of a *** the present study,we employed two statistical regression models such as the linear and polynomial models in order to estimate the CFR,based on the early phase of COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria(44 days since first reported COVID-19 death).The estimate of the CFR was determined based on cumulative number of confirmed cases and deaths reported from 23 March to 30 April,*** results from the linear model estimated that the CFR was 3.11%(95%CI:2.59%-3.80%)with R2 value of 90%and p-value of<*** findings from the polynomial model suggest that the CFR associated with the Nigerian outbreak is 3.0%and may range from 2.23%to 3.42%with R2 value of 93%and p-value of<***,the polynomial regression model with the higher R2 value fits the dataset well and provides better estimate of CFR for the reported COVID-19 cases in Nigeria.

Delayed Presentation of Patients with Gynaecological Malignancies in Kano, North-Western Nigeria

The diagnosis and management of gynaecological cancers are still challenging in low- and middle-income countries. In patients with gynaecological malignancies delay at any point increases morbidity and mortality. This study evaluated the factors that may delay presentation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant gynaecological cancers, and described the duration of each delay. It was a prospective cross-sectional study. A total number of 96 patients diagnosed to have gynaecological malignancy were enrolled in the study between the April 2014 and April 2015. The median age was 47.5 years (range of 18 - 84 years). The diagnoses on admission were cervical malignancy 34 (35.42%), ovarian malignancy 32 (33.33%), chorio carcinoma 15 (15.63%), cancers of uterine body (endometrial and leiomyosarcoma) 10 (10.42%) and vulval malignancies 5 (5.2%). Majority of the patients 65 (67.7%) presented late at either stage III or IV. At presentation, 36 patients (37.5%) had severe anaemia;10 patients (10.41%) had obstructive uropathy;3 (3.13%) developed fistula;19 (19.79%) died on admission from complication of their disease. Most patients 61 (63.54%) had delayed presentation of more than 90 days (“patients delay”). Time in decision ranged between 3 days to maximum of 2920 days and median of 150 days. 58 (60.42%) gave a reason for such delay as lack of knowledge of their presenting symptoms, as a warning sign of possible malignancy;80 (83.33%) had delay in diagnosis (“doctor delay”);40 (41.67%) reported that the medical practitioner did not make referral to the center with available gynaecological services;“hospital delay” was observed in 66 (68.75%) of patients. The reason for delayed treatment in 35 (36.46%) of patients was severe patients condition that warrant stabilization (blood transfusion and dialysis) and 29 (30.21%) could not afford the treatment. Late presentation is a great problem in the management of oncological patients in this environment. High cost of care

Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in Pregnant Women in the Antenatal Booking Clinic at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, Nigeria

Asymptomatic bacteriuria is common in pregnant women and if untreated could lead to serious complications. Despite this, its prevalence and microbiological characteristics have not been well studied in Kano and they vary among different populations. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence, microbiological characteristics and pregnancy outcome of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy among women who came for antenatal booking clinic at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) Kano. A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted among randomly selected 200 consenting pregnant women who came for antenatal booking from November 2010 to January 2011. Samples of 10 - 15 mls urine were examined for pus cells and bacteria and then cultured on cysteine lactose electrolyte deficient agar. Colony counts yielding bacterial growth of 105/ml or more of pure isolates were deemed significant. Isolates were identified to specie level. Antibiotic sensitivity test was done, treatment was given and pregnancy outcome was determined. Urinalysis and Full Blood Count were done. The prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy was 9%. Parity and Pyuria had statistically significant association with asymptomatic bacteriuria (P < 0.05). The commonest organisms isolated wereKlebsiella?spp. and?Staphylococcus saprophyticus. Following treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria, there was no statistically significant difference in pregnancy outcome compared to patients who did not have the condition. The incidence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy in AKTH is low. Screening of pregnant women using urine microscopy culture and sensitivity should be reserved for pregnant women with higher risk of developing asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Outpatient prevention counseling for malaria in northwest Nigeria: A single-centre descriptive cross-sectional study
