Aquaculture-based fisheries enhancement involves the rearing and release of fish to achieve specific fisheries *** 1 million people fish for leisure in south-eastern Australian waters every year,and aquaculture-based fisheries enhancement is one of several government-led strategies aimed at improvement of fishing experience for *** release programs and an associated regulatory framework have been developed over the past decade,with the primary objective of enhancing recreational(leisure) fisheries for species spanning penaeid prawns,crabs,and *** has been a core component of these programs,which has both improved enhancement outcomes and greatly contributed to the broader management of target species and our appreciation of their ***,the study of recruitment patterns alongside development of aquaculture-based fisheries enhancement programs is an integral part of our *** contrast to larger-scale releases conducted elsewhere,release strategies principally involve small-scale releases targeted directly into niches primarily defined by recruitment limitation and habitat availability,which contributes to the economic feasibility of programs and achievement of measurable *** development and outcomes of established release programs are presented(with a focus on Mulloway Argyrosomus japonicus and Eastern King Prawn Penaeus plebejus),alongside the challenges that have hampered continued enhancement efforts under these programs(such as disease,genetics,contamination and broodstock management).We conclude by outlining programs currently under development and the approaches being *** includes the first integrated fisheries enhancement program in eastern Australia,where fish are being released in conjunction with artificial structures deployed specifically to enhance fishing opportunities.

background: Increased relative wall thickness in hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) has been shown by echocardiography to allow preserved shortening at the endocardium despite depressed LV midwall circumferential shortening (MWCS). Depressed MWCS is an adverse prognostic indicator, but whether this finding reflects reduced global or regional LV myocardial function, as assessed by three-dimensional (3D) myocardial strain, is unknown. Methods and Results: Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) tissue tagging permits direct evaluation of regional 3D intramyocardial strain, independent of LV geometry. We evaluated 21 hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic LVH in the LIFE study and 8 normal controls using 3D MR tagging and echocardiography. Patients had higher MR LV mass than normals (116 ± 40 versus 63 ± 6 g/m2, P = 0.002). Neither echocardiographic fractional shortening (32 ± 6 versus 33% ± 3%), LVEF (63% versus 64%) or mean end-systolic stress (175 ± 27 versus 146 ± 28 g/cm2) were significantly different, yet global MWCS was decreased by both echocardiography (13.4 ± 2.8 versus 18.2% ± 1.5%, P P P = 0.002) in LVH and greater in lateral and anterior regions versus septal and posterior regions ( P P P 0.60, P = 0.001 for both). Conclusions: In patients with hypertensive LVH, despite normal LV function via echocardiography or CMR, CMR intramyocardial tagging show depressed global MWCS while 3D MR strain revealed marked underlying regional heterogeneity of LV dysfunction.

background Multi-locus sequence typing （MLST） is widely used to explore the population structure of numerous bacterial pathogens. However, for genotypically-restricted pathogens, the sensitivity of MLST is limited by a paucity of variation within selected loci. For bartonella henselae （b. henselae）, although the MLST scheme currently used has been proven useful in defining the overall population structure of the species, its reliability for the accurate delineation of closely-related sequence types, between which allelic variation is usually limited to, at most, one or two nucleotide polymorphisms. Exploitation of high-throughput sequencing data allows a more informed selection of MLST loci and thus, potentially, a means of enhancing the sensitivity of the schemes they comprise. Methods We carried out SOLID resequencing on 12 representative b. henselae isolates and explored these data using single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） analysis. We determined the number and distribution of SNPs in the genes targeted by the established MLST scheme and modified the position of loci within these genes to capture as much genetic variation as possible. Results Using genome-wide SNP data, we found the distribution of SNPs within each open reading frame （ORF） of MLST loci, which were not represented by the established b. henselae MLST scheme. We then modified the position of loci in the MLST scheme to better reflect the polymorphism in the ORF as a whole. The use of amended loci in this scheme allowed previously indistinguishable ST1 strains to be differentiated. However, the diversity of b. henselae was still rare in China. Conclusions Our study demonstrates the use of SNP analysis to facilitate the selection of MLST loci to augment the currently-described scheme for b. henselae. And the diversity among b. henselae strains in China is markedly less than that observed in b. henselae populations elsewhere in the world.

Improving Confidence and Practical Skills in Plastic Surgery for Medical Students and Junior Doctors: A One-Day Session

Objectives: The current medical school curriculum offers scant exposure to plastic surgery. Medical students and junior doctors are often inadequately prepared for in-hospital placements which may impact on patient safety and quality of care. We aimed to deliver a one-day “hands-on” practical session on basic surgical skills and principles in plastic surgery, and to assess its effectiveness at improving confidence to the specialty among junior trainees. Methods: The one-day practical session covered knot tying, suturing, LA administration, skin lesion excision and local flaps, with short concurrent lectures on principles of plastic surgery. Self-assessment confidence scores were recorded before and after the course on seven domains: a) knowledge: wound assessment and management, suture selection, and concepts of flaps;b) practical skills: Handling of surgical instrument, suturing, LA administration, and skin lesion excision. Results: Thirty-five participants attended: Six core surgical trainees, fifteen foundation doctors, and fourteen medical students. The overall course satisfaction was 9.13/10. Self-assessment confidence scores in all domains significantly improved after the course (p back was extremely positive. Conclusions: The hands-on nature of the course offered participants great opportunities to acquire the necessary confidence and practical skills required for in-hospital placements. It is vital for students and doctors interested in a career in plastic surgery to prepare adequately for this diverse specialty, which is covered in limited depth in medical school. The need for more practical skills courses on plastic surgery for this demographic is intuitive.

Many fungi are pathogenic on plants and cause significant damage in agriculture and *** are also part of the natural ecosystem and may play a role in regulating plant numbers/*** identification and analysis of plant pathogenic fungi,while important,is often hampered by the scarcity of discriminatory taxonomic characters and the endophytic or inconspicuous nature of these ***(DNA sequence)data for plant pathogenic fungi have emerged as key information for diagnostic and classification studies,although hampered in part by non-standard laboratory practices and analytical *** facilitate current and future research,this study provides phylogenetic synopses for 25 groups of plant pathogenic fungi in the Ascomycota,basidiomycota,Mucormycotina(Fungi),and Oomycota,using recent molecular data,up-to-date names,and the latest taxonomic *** laboratory protocols together with advice on their application,as well as general observations,are also *** hope to maintain updated backbone trees of these fungal lineages over time and to publish them jointly as new data *** of plant pathogenic fungi not covered by the present study are invited to join this future ***,botryosphaeriaceae,botryosphaeria,botrytis,Choanephora,Colletotrichum,Curvularia,Diaporthe,Diplodia,Dothiorella,Fusarium,Gilbertella,Lasiodiplodia,Mucor,Neofusicoccum,Pestalotiopsis,Phyllosticta,Phytophthora,Puccinia,Pyrenophora,Pythium,Rhizopus,Stagonosporopsis,Ustilago and Verticillium are dealt with in this paper.
