This work describes the use of TiO_(2)nanotubes-based electrodes(TNT)modified with Cu_(2)O nanostructures and gold nanoparticles for the photoelectroreduction of CO_(2)to produce value-added compounds.A thin layer of polydopamine was used as both an adherent agent and an electron transfer mediator,due to itsπ-conjugated electron *** highest production yield was achieved using a TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode,with Faradaic efficiencies of 47.4%(110.5μM cm^(-2))and 27.8%(50.4μM cm^(-2))for methanol and methane,*** performance of the photoelectrodes was shown to be Cu_(2)O facet-dependent,with cubic structures leading to greater conversion of CO_(2)to methanol(43%)and methane(27%),compared to the octahedral morphology,while a higher percentage of metallic gold on the nanostructured Cu_(2)O surface was mainly important for *** functional theory(DFT)calculations supported these findings,attributing the superior photoelectrocatalytic performance of the TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode for CH4generation to the formation of an OCH3intermediate bonded to Au *** using isotope-labeling and analysis by gas chromatograph-mass(GC-MS)demonstrated that13CO_(2)was the source for photoelectrocatalytic generation of13CH3OH and13CH313CH2OH.

The yellow emitting dysprosium oxysulfide （Dy2O2S） and dysprosium oxysulfate （Dy202SO4） compounds were prepared from the thermal decomposition of hydrated dysprosium sulphate. The materials were characterized by using thermogravimetry （TG/DTG）, X-ray powder diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） and Raman spectroscopies. The thermal stability temperatures at around 1151 and 1313 K were determined for the Dy202S and Dy202SO4 materials, respectively. The photolumines- cence properties of the dysprosium oxysulfide were investigated, showing narrow emission bands assigned to the 4F9/2----＊6HJ intracon- figurational transitions of the Dy3＋ ion. The yellow emission color of this phosphor suggests that the Dy202S is a promising material for applications in LEDs.

Underground mines in Arctic and Subarctic regions require the preheating of mine intake air during *** cold fresh air of those remote areas can be as severe as40℃ and commonly needs to be heated to around+3℃.This extensive amount of heating is usually provided by employing large-size air heaters,fueled by diesel,propane,natural gas,or heavy oil,leading to high energy costs and large carbon *** the same time,the thermal energy content of a diesel generator sets(gen-sets)exhaust is known to be one-third of the total heating value of its combusted *** heat recovery from diesel gen-sets is a growing technology that seeks to mitigate the energy costs by capturing and redirecting this commonly rejected exhaust heat to other applications such as space heating or pre-heating of the mine intake *** present study investigated the possibility of employing a simple system based on off-theshelf heat exchanger technology,which can recover the waste heat from the exhaust of the power generation units(diesel gen-sets)in an off-grid,cold,remote mine in Canada for heating of the mine intake *** from a real mine was used for the analysis along with environmental data of three different location-scenarios with distinct *** developing a thermodynamic model,the heat savings were calculated,and an economic feasibility evaluation was *** proposed system was found highly viable with annual savings of up to C$6.7 million and capable enough to provide an average of around 75%of the heating demand for mine intake air,leading to a payback period of about eleven months or less for all *** of seasonal thermal energy storage has also been recommended to mitigate the mismatch between supply and demand,mainly in summertime,possibly allowing the system to eliminate fuel costs for intake air heating.

This review shows the importance of WO_(3)photoanode as a potentially low-cost,efficient,stable,and photoactive material for light-driven water *** such,this manuscript aims to review the most recent publications regarding the strategies to improve the phoelectroactivity of WO_(3)films for water *** addition,this review aims to graphically highlight and discuss the general trendings of the photocurrent density response and stability test of the recent outstanding studies in the literature for photoelectrochemical water splitting *** strategies covered in this review will not only concern the WO_(3)morphology and crystal plane growth,but also the many arrangements possibilities to improve the WO_(3)efficiency for water photoelectrooxidation,such as defect engineering based on oxygen vacancies,doping,decorations,and homo and *** these strategies are compared by the photocurrent density results and by the stability of these *** best results in this sense were observed in cases where the use of heterojunction was applied together with a desired morphology and crystal plane of the WO_(3)***,the modifications that caused a decrease in the photocurrent density reaching values that are even lower than the pure WO_(3)were also *** this way,this review intends to improve the knowledge about the synthesis and design of WO_(3)photoanodes to further obtain an efficient photocatalyst to minimize the recombination losses or losses across the interfaces and improve the photoelectroactivity for water splitting in the large-scale application.

The effects of the addition of 5.0 wt.%Ni to an Al−6wt.%Cu alloy on the solidification cooling rate(T),growth rate(v_(L)),length scale of the representative phase of the microstructure,morphology/distribution of intermetallic compounds(IMCs)and on the resulting properties were *** and tensile properties were determined on samples solidified under a wide range of T along the length of a directionally solidified Al−6wt.%Cu−5.0wt.%Ni alloy *** growth laws were derived relating the evolution of primary(λ_(1))and secondary(λ_(2))dendritic spacings with T and v_(L).The elongation to fracture(δ)and the ultimate tensile strength(σ_(U))were correlated with the inverse of the square root of λ_(1) along the length of the casting by Hall−Petch type experimental *** reinforcing effect provided by the addition of Ni in the alloy composition is shown to surpass that provided by the refinement of the dendritic *** highest corrosion resistance is associated with a microstructure formed by thin IMCs evenly distributed in the interdendritic regions,typical of samples that are solidified under higher T.

The NaYF4：yb3＋,Tb3＋（Xyb： 0.20, XTb： 0.04） materials were prepared using the co-precipitation method, lne as-preparea material was washed either with or without water in addition to ethanol and thereafter annealed for 5 h at 500℃. This resulted in materials with moderate or very high up-conversion luminescence intensity, respectively. The structural study carried out with X-ray powder diffraction revealed microstrains in the rare earth （R） sublattice that were relaxed for the material with very high up-conversion intensity thus decreasing energy losses. The local structural details were investigated with R LⅢ and Y K edge ex- tended X-ray absorption fine structure （EXAFS） using synchrotron radiation. Around 10 tool.% of the Yb3＋ ions were found to occupy the Na site in the material with very high up-conversion intensity. These Yb species formed clusters with the Tb3＋ ions occupying the regular Na/R sites. Such clustering enhanced the energy transfer between Yb3＋ and Tb3＋ thus intensifying the up-conversion emission.

High arsenic(As)and chromium(Cr)concentrations are currently receiving attention because of their negative effects on the environment and human *** inhabiting contaminated environments have developed resistance mechanisms against the toxicity of these ***,members of the bacterial genus Micrococcus have been isolated from different toxic metal-contaminated environments;however,knowledge concerning its resistance mechanisms to As and Cr toxicity remains *** luteus strains(An24,Mh,NE2TL6,and NE2TTS4)were isolated from the endosphere and soil of two heavy metal-contaminated sites in Mexico to identify differences in the resistance mechanisms by the *** *** strains were resistant to As(As^(3+)and As^(5+)),chromate,dichromate,cobalt,copper,nickel,and *** analysis indicated that the heavy metal-resistant strains(An24,Mh,NE2TL6,and NE2TTS4)could be assigned to the *** group and had more heavy metal-resistant genes(transporters,chaperones,and enzymes)compared to reference strains of the *** group,*** NCTC 2665^(T)and Micrococcus endophyticus JCM 16951^(T).The resistant bacteria were able to biotransform As^(3+)and As^(5+)through a carbon source-dependent *** biotransformation of As5+was potentially carried out in the cytoplasm through a thioredoxin-dependent pathway,which may be coupled with biosorption.A qualitative analysis of organic acids(OAs)identified a change in the OA profile of the metal-resistant strains that was As-or *** genomic and phenotypic findings suggest that the four *** group strains evaluated in the current study have developed resistance mechanisms that may enable their survival in contaminated sites.
