Noise pollution is becoming a critical health risk for city *** 2020,the COVID-19 pandemic forced many cities to implement several mobility *** restrictions changed human activity patterns and decreased the noise levels and noise pollution that often affect urban *** the number of infections decreased,so did the outdoor activities,influencing the population’s perception of *** paper aims to evaluate the changes in noise levels associated with mobility restrictions between 2020 and 2021 in Guayaquil,*** study used crowdsourcing with the help of smartphones and mobile applications to collect geo-referenced environmental noise *** data was used to generate noise maps in different time ***,noise level maps were created using GIS-based tools to identify the urban areas that experienced the highest noise level variation during the study *** results show that the most significant noise increase occurred at ***,when analyzing noise level changes in different urban areas,the western area of Guayaquil was the one that experienced the most significant noise level *** inform the perception of noise pollution and could potentially serve as a reference for decision-makers during the proposal of public policies that ensure a better quality of life for its citizens.

On q-n-gonal Klein Surfaces

We consider proper Klein surfaces X of algebraic genus p ≥ 2, having an automorphism φ of prime order n with quotient space X/（φ） of algebraic genus q. These Klein surfaces axe called q-n-gonal surfaces and they are n-sheeted covers of surfaces of algebraic genus q. In this paper we extend the results of the already studied cases n ≤ 3 to this more general situation. Given p ≥ 2, we obtain, for each prime n, the （admissible） values q for which there exists a q-n-gonal surface of algebraic genus p. Furthermore, for each p and for each admissible q, it is possible to check all topological types of q-n-gonal surfaces with algebraic genus p. Several examples are given： q-pentagonal surfaces and q-n-gonal bordered surfaces with topological genus g = 0, 1.

Three Different Approaches to Virtue in Business- Aristotle, Confucius, and Lao Zi

The proposed paper presents an overview on the matter of virtue from different philosophical angles. It concentrates on three different schools of thought coming from the West and the East and their respective concepts of virtue. These schools of thought and the therewith-associated personalities and works discussed in this paper are Aristotelian virtue ethics, Confucianism and Daoism. The paper focuses specifically on the Nicomachean Ethics （NE） by Aristotle, the Analects belonging to Confucianism, and the Dao De Jing coming from Daoism. The paper is divided into three major parts. First, the concept of virtue of each school is outlined. In the second part, the concrete virtues as such according to each school are explained. In the third part, these virtues are then applied in specific business contexts like business practice, corporate culture and leadership, illuminating each school＇s characteristic approach. The paper closes with a summary and conclusion. In the conclusion the paper outlines differences as well as similarities between Aristotelian and Confucian virtue ethics. Yet, the author generally takes a critical stance towards comparisons merely for the sake of finding similarities. Particularly between Aristotelian and Confucian virtue ethics there is a significant difference when it comes to the cultural and historical background of these schools, which should not be ignored. Besides, even within Chinese philosophy there are already significant differences when it comes to concepts and practice.

Outrunning the Red Queen： bystander activation as a means of outpacing innate immune subversion by intracellular pathogens

Originally described by the late evolutionary biologist Leigh Van Valen, the Red Queen hypothesis posits that the evolutionary arms race between hosts and their pathogens selects for discrete, genetically encoded events that lead to competitive advantages over the other species. Examples of immune evasion strategies are seen throughout the co-evolution of the mammalian immune system and pathogens, such as the enzymatic inactivation of nuclear factor-KB signaling or host translation by pathogen-encoded virulence factors. Such immunoevasive maneuvers would be expected to select for the evolution of innate immune counterstrategies. Recent advances in our understanding of host immunity and microbial pathogenesis have provided insight into a particular innate immune adaptation, termed bystander activation. Bystander activation occurs as a consequence of infected cells alerting and instructing neighboring uninfected cells to produce inflammatory mediators, either through direct cell contact or paracrine signals. Thus, bystander activation can allow the immune system to overcome the ability of pathogens to disarm immune signaling in directly infected cells. This review presents an overview of the general hallmarks of bystander activation and their emerging role in innate immunity to intraceUular pathogens, as well as examples of recent mechanistic discoveries relating to the bystander activation during infection with specific pathogens relevant to human health and disease.

Delayed seed dispersal species and related traits in the desert of the United Arab Emirates

The ability of plants to safely retain seeds in the mother plant is an adaptive mechanism described in many desert ***,research about delayed seed dispersal species in the desert of the United Arab Emirates(UAE)is *** study aims to identify these delayed seed dispersal species and assess the relationships of the presence of delayed seed dispersal with plant growth form,habit,spatial dispersal,antitelechoric mechanism,and seed release *** relationships between the presence of delayed seed dispersal and the above studied traits were assessed by using the Pearson Chi-square test and Nonlinear Principal Components Analysis(NLPCA).Results showed that a total of 46 delayed seed dispersal species were recorded(15.0%of 307 studied species)and the highest incidence occurred in the Fabaceae family(17.4%).Delayed seed dispersal species were predominantly perennial plants(73.9%)with spatial restricted dispersal(67.4%),which released seed in the dry season(45.7%).The dominant groups of delayed seed dispersal species were persistent fruits species and synaptospermy(28.3%).All graminoids showed persistent lignified fruits,while prostrate annuals were basicarpic species with *** habitats had the highest number of delayed seed dispersal species(54.3%),whereas salt flats had the lowest(23.9%).In the desert of the UAE,delayed seed dispersal species spread seeds until the end of the dry and windy season,thus breaking seed dormancy at this time and ensuring seed germination in the next arrival of the rainy *** morphological and ecological adaptation of delayed dispersal species is essential to the survival and sustainable development of vegetation in desert environments.

More Erratic and More Extreme: Trends in Precipitation in the State of São Paulo, Brazil

The study assessed changes in rainfall variability and the frequency of extreme events (very wet and very dry) in the state of S?o Paulo, Brazil, for a 40-year period that divided into two sub-groups: 1973-1992 (P1) and 1993-2012 (P2). Data of 79 rain gauge stations were selected to represent the different climatic and geomorphological domains of the state. The annual pattern was evaluated through the scale and the shape parameters of the gamma distribution and the 95th and the 5th percentiles thresholds, the latter also employed to evaluate the seasonal spatial patterns (rainy season, Oct.-Mar. and sub-humid to dry season, Apr.-Sep.). Results showed that the average precipitation was similar in P1 and P2, but S?o Paulo evolved to a pattern of increased irregularity in the rainfall distribution, with a rise of approximately 10% in the number of extremes between 1973 and 2012, especially in the very dry occurrences, and in the north and west of the state, which are the least rainy regions. Moreover, while 55% of the evaluated rain gauges recorded more extreme wet episodes in P2, 76% registered more dry extreme episodes in the same period. Some very dry or very wet events recorded after the 40-year period evaluated were discussed in terms of the associated weather patterns and their impacts on society and attested to the validity of the results found in the quantitative assessment. The qualitative analysis indicates that if the trends of more irregular distribution of rain and increase in extreme events persist, as pointed out by the gamma and percentile analyses, they would continue to bring serious effects on the natural and social systems in the state, which is the most populous and has the strongest and most diversified economy in Brazil.

Numerical study of unsteady cavitation on 2D NACA0015 hydrofoil using free/open source software

The free/open source software as OpenFOAM,Salome meshing and python language under Debian Linux system are evaluated to model unsteady cavitating turbulent flow around a NACA0015 hydrofoil. Based on the cavitation model proposed by Kunz and large eddy simulation(LES) method, we denote the benefits of free software and open source tools as an alternative to proprietary software of computational fluid mechanics, and provided a modified cavitation model to improve numerical *** simulation results of typical break-off cycle for cavitation shedding are compared to available experimental data, and validated using image processing to find percentage of similarities. The sheet cavity frequency of 7.752 Hz was obtained based on cavitation evolution and pressure fluctuations. The study gives relevant information for CFD software development in the future.

Insecticidal Activity of Annonaceous Acetogenins and Their Derivatives on <em>Spodoptera frugiperda</em>Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Background: Annonaceous acetogenins enclose a large number of biological activities, among which the insecticidal stands out. Methods: We report herein the biocide effects of natural acetogenins from Annona squamosa, A.?muricata and A. montana seeds: annonacin, cis-annonacin, cis-annonacin-10- one, asimicin, rolliniastatin-2, cherimolin-1, cherimolin-2, almuñequin, and two β-OH acetogenins: laherradurin and itrabin on Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Also, some acetylated and methoxy methylated ACG derivatives were synthesized and evaluated: annonacin (3 OAc), annonacin (4 OAc), asimicin (3 OAc), rolliniastatin-2 (3 OAc), rolliniastatin-2 (MOM), laherradurin (3 OAc) and itrabin (3 OAc). Results: The natural acetogenin rolliniastatin-2 (100 μg·g-1 of diet) produced the most important toxic action causing 100% mortality of early instar larvae. Derivatization of ACG yielded compounds that produced nutritional alterations. The incorporation of rolliniastatin-2 (3 OAc) and rolliniastatin-2 (3 MOM) (100 μg·g-1) into the artificial diet of Spodoptera frugiperdadisplayed the strongest antifeedant effects causing marked decreasings in larval growth and adult lethal malformations. Conclusion: Natural acetogenins are promising metabolites for insect control. Derivatization of these compounds reduces their toxicity to early instar larvae.
