Background:The present investigation tested the efficacy of the Tennant Biomodulator,a novel pain management intervention that uses biofeedback-modulated electrical stimulation,to reduce chronic pain and its psychosocial sequelae in a sample of current and former military service *** Tennant Biomodulator used on its most basic setting was compared to two commonly used,non-pharmacological pain treatments—traditional Chinese acupuncture and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS)—in a comparative efficacy,randomized,open-label ***:Participants included 100 active duty and retired service men and women with chronic pain undergoing treatment at the Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas,USA,randomly assigned to receive six,weekly sessions of either Tennant Biomodulator treatment,traditional Chinese acupuncture,or TENS,in addition to usual *** was conducted between May 2010 to September *** measures were collected at intake,before and after each treatment session,and at a 1-month ***-to-treat analyses were used throughout,with mixed models used to investigate main effects of group,time,and group×time interactions with consideration given to quadratic *** measured included ratings of chronic pain,pain-related functional disability,and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)and ***:on average,regardless of their treatment group,participants exhibited a 16%reduction in pain measured by the Brooke Army Medical Center’s Clinic Pain Log[f(1,335)=55.7,Pon in pain-related disability measured by the Million Visual Analog Scale[MVAS:f(1,84)=28.3,Pfrom baseline to the end of treatment,but no one treatment performed better than the other,and the reductions in pain and pain-related disability were largely lost by 1-month *** of PTSD and depression did not change significantly as a function of time or ***:findings build on previ

Estimation of Genetic Parameters of Turiacu Pineapple Clones and Genetic Correlation between Traits

This study aimed to estimate genetic parameters of Turiaçu pineapple clones using mixed models;and estimate genetic correlation coefficient between traits, to provide important information to breeding programs. for this, 19 pineapple plants were visually selected and its slips were collected and planted in a single environment and nine traits were evaluated. The genetic parameters of most evaluated traits presented significant differences between the 19 clones. Some traits, such as fusarium wilt resistance, showed high magnitudes of heritability. Clones did not differ in relation to total titratable acidity (TTA) and total soluble solids (TSS). However, these traits, which have implications to fruit quality, showed to be negatively correlated to fruit mass (-0.46 and -0.67). The results indicate that the population of Turiaçu pineapple is suitable for selection, especially for fusarium wilt resistance. Also, Turiaçu clones can be used in breeding programs of pineapple.

Recently,several proof of principle experiments have demonstrated the advantages of quantum technologies over classical *** present challenge is to surpass the limits of proof of principle demonstrations to approach real *** letter presents such an achievement in the field of quantum enhanced *** particular,we describe the realization of a sub-shot-noise wide field microscope based on spatially multi-mode non-classical photon number correlations in twin *** microscope produces realtime images of 8000 pixels at full resolution,for a 500μm2 field of view,with noise reduced to 80%of the shot noise level(for each pixel),which is suitable for absorption imaging of complex *** fast post-elaboration,specifically applying a quantum enhanced median filter,the noise can be further reduced(to o30%of the shot noise level)by setting a trade-off with the resolution,thus achieving the best sensitivity per incident photon reported in absorption microscopy.

This paper studies the effect of basalt and tephra dusts,as alternatives to chemical fertilizers,on soil fertility and Radish(Raphanus sativus)*** experiment was conducted in the field and in the laboratory in the years 2017 and 2018 on two separate plots so as to annul residual effects of fertilizers).The experimental design in the field was a randomized complete block design(56 m^(2)),including five treatments and three replications:control(T_(0)),basalt dust(T_(1)),tephra dust(T_(2)),effective micro-organism(EM)fertilizer(T_(3))and NPK 20-10-10(T_(4)).The main results show the following decreasing trend based on yield:T_(1)>T_(3)>T_(0)>T_(4)>T_(2).The best yields appear in T_(1) and T_(3) probably because they supplied the highest levels of soil nutrients to match the needs of the *** T_(2) plants performed poorly,soil properties like pH.H_(2)o(6.14 to 6.49),sum of exchangeable bases,base saturation,available phosphorus and cation balance were improved after tephra treatment.T_(2) plants might have performed poorly due to intrinsic properties of the tephra dust like low availability of trace elements compared to T_(1) and T_(3).T_(4) plants show the highest number of leaves,leaf area index and plant *** fe,Mn,Cu and Zn levels in bulbs and leaves will not pose danger of toxicity to human upon consumption and could serve as nutrient supplement for children and expectant *** most profitable treatment is T_(1) permitting to recommend the popularization of basalt dust for radish cultivation as an alternative to chemical fertilizers.

In this study, we identified a novel protein complex consisting of LIM-Kinase 1 (LIMK1), Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) and Tubulin Polymerization Promoting Protein 1 (TPPP1). Under basal conditions, assembly of the LIMK1/TPPP1/HDAC6 complex results in both inhibition of HDAC6 activity and LIMK1 activation. This leads to increased microtubule (MT) acetylation, a MT stabilizing modification, and actin filament (f-actin) destabilization. In response to activation of the Rhokinase (RoCK) signaling pathway, downstream phosphorylation of LIMK1 and TPPP1 leads to the dissociation of the LIMK1/TPPP1/HDAC6 complex. In turn, HDAC6 and LIMK1 activities are increased, which results in MT destabilization and f-actin stabilization. finally, we reveal that increasing tubulin acetylation reduces the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs, suggesting that strategies to reduce acetyl-tubulin levels may be a viable option in treating drug-resistant tumors.

The ripening of climacteric fruits,such as apple,is represented by a series of genetically programmed events orchestrated by the action of several *** this study,we investigated the existence of a hormonal crosstalk between ethylene and auxin during the post-harvest ripening of three internationally known apple cultivars:‘Golden Delicious',‘Granny Smith'and‘fuji'.The normal climacteric ripening was impaired by the exogenous application of 1-methylcyclopropene(1-MCP)that affected the production of ethylene and the physiological behaviour of specific ethylene-related quality traits,such as fruit texture and the production of volatile organic *** application of 1-MCP induced,moreover,a de-novo accumulation of *** RNA-Seq wide-transcriptome analysis evidenced as the competition at the level of the ethylene receptors induced a cultivar-dependent transcriptional *** DEGs annotation carried out through the KEGG database identified as most genes were assigned to the plant hormone signaling transduction category,and specifically related to auxin and *** interplay between these two hormones was further assessed through a candidate gene analysis that highlighted a specific activation of GH3 and ILL genes,encoding key steps in the process of the auxin homeostasis *** results showed that a compromised ethylene metabolism at the onset of the climacteric ripening in apple can stimulate,in a cultivar-dependent fashion,an initial de-novo synthesis and de-conjugation of auxin as a tentative to restore a normal ripening progression.

This study aimed to analyze the possible metabolic disturbances caused by creatine supplementation on aerobic capacity of rats, inferred by the maximal lactate steady state. forty male Wistar rats (90 days old) were distributed into two groups for eight weeks: trained group (T): rats that were submitted to a training protocol, and supplemented-trained group (TCr): rats that were submitted to a training protocol and received balanced diet supplemented with 2% creatine. The blood lactate concentrations equivalent to maximal lactate steady state during treadmill running were analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the experiment. At the end of the experiment were done comparing the test results MLSS between the two groups. At the beginning of the experiment, prior to groups division, the majority of animals obtained MLSS at a speed of26 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.79 ± 0.76 mmol/L. At the end of the experiment, most of trained rats in T presented MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.37 ± 0.68 mmol/L. Most TCr had MLSS at the speed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.52 ± 0.69 mmol/L. We conclude that creatine supplementation was not the cause of the improvement in the aerobic capacity of rats in the tread-mill exercise.
