Age estimation in short speech utterances finds many applications in daily life like human-robot interaction,custom call routing,targeted marketing,user-profiling,*** the comprehensive studies carried out to extract descriptive features,the estimation errors(***)are still *** this study,an automatic system is proposed to estimate age in short speech utterances without depending on the text as well as the ***,four groups of features are extracted from each utterance frame using hybrid techniques and *** that,10 statistical functionals are measured for each extracted feature ***,the extracted feature dimensions are normalized and reduced using the Quantile method and the Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA)method,***,the speaker’s age is estimated based on a multi-class classification approach by using the Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)*** have been carried out on the TIMIT dataset to measure the performance of the proposed *** Mean Absolute Error(MAE)of the suggested system is 4.68 years,and 4.98 years,the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)is 8.05 and 6.97,respectively,for female and male *** results show a clear relative improvement in terms of MAE up to 28%and 10%for female and male speakers,respectively,in comparison to related works that utilized the TIMIT dataset.

Ultrasonic absorption and velocity measurements were made on aqueous solutions of poly (ethylene glycol)(PEG)of different molecular weights and concentrations, using a pulse sender-receiver ultrasonic generator, Measurements were obtained at a frequency of 2MHz. , and a temperature of 293 k. The results show a linear increase of the Values of velocity, density and viscosity with increase of molecu lar weight and concentration of PEG. On the contrary, the attenuation values decreased with increase of molecular weight and concentration of PEG. A mathematical equation correlating relaxation amplitude and molecular weight of the polymer is suggested. This was applied to calculate the molecular weights of unknown samples of PEG from their measured relaxation amplitude. The results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained from osmometry.

In this work an experimental investigation was carried out in order to explore the possibility of realizing a domestic heating system by throttling hydraulic oil. Considering the continuous increasing price of diesel oil, this work gains unique importance. Generating heat directly by throttling is realized using a simple environment friendly system which does not require oil transportation and storage, and eliminates the need for chimneys and annual preventive maintenance, as it is the case with heating by utilizing oil burners, which is prevailing in Jordan. Experimental results show that it is possible to raise the room temperature up to 70?C during 15 minutes which is not a limit value. Experimental results show that temperature rate could be increased by selecting the appropriate pump power and by connecting a number of throttles in parallel.

This research is a continuation to our work which was published in [1]. Eight different timing VIs are designed and tested. These include ON-Delay, OFF-Delay, Single Shot, Retriggerable Monostable, and Accumulative software-based timers. Using hardware programmable counter/timer chip (DAQ-STC-24bit) and PCI MIO-16E-1 DAQ board, another two precise timers are designed. At the end of the paper, for illustration purposes, an electro-pneumatic drive system was developed and controlled utilizing designed on-delay timers VI functions. Results of experiment show complete coincidence between the PLC-based control and Virtual PLC-based program results.

Objectives: Sex differences in object location memory favoring females appear to be a replicable phenomenon but may also depend on the task demands. This investigation evaluated if females outperformed males at both a short (immediate) and long (half-hour) interval between the learn and test condition using a recently developed version of the Novel-Image Novel-Location (NINL) test (Piper et al. 2011, Physiology & Behavior, 103, 513 - 522). Methods: Young-adults (N = 184) completed a standardized handedness inventory and the NINL. Results: Participants assigned to the Immediate and Delayed conditions did not differ in age, sex, or handedness. The NINL total score was higher among females at the Immediate, but not Delayed, interval. However, within the Delayed condition, females excelled at correctly identifying the unchanged items with a similar pattern for the Novel-Location (NL) scale. Conclusion: These findings are consistent with the view that sexually dimorphic performance favoring females in neurocognitive function can also extend to tasks that have a spatial component.

A Design of a PID Self-Tuning Controller Using LabVIEW

In this paper a trial has been made to design a simple self-tuning LabVIEW-based PID controller. The controller uses an open-loop relay test, calculates the tuned parameters in an open loop mode of operation before it updates controller parameters and runs the process as a closed-loop system. The controller reacts on a persistent offset error value as a result of load disturbance or a set point change. Practical results show that such a controller may be recommended to control a variety of industrial processes. A GUI was developed to facilitate control-mode selection, the setting of controller parameters, and the display of control system variables. GUI makes it possible to put the controller in manual or self-tuning mode.

Using 172 plates taken with the 40-cm astrograph of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute （Lomonosov Moscow University） in 1976-1994 and digitized with a resolution of 2400dpi, we dis- covered and studied 275 new variable stars. We present the list of our new variables with all necessary information concerning their brightness variations. As in our earlier studies, the new discoveries show a rather large number of high-amplitude Delta Scuti variables, predicting that many stars of this type re- main not detected in the whole sky. We also performed automated classification of the newly discovered variable stars based on the Random Forest algorithm. The results of the automated classification were compared to traditional classification and showed that automated classification was possible even with noisy photographic data. However, further improvement of automated techniques is needed, which is especially important when considering the very large numbers of new discoveries expected from all-sky surveys.

BACkGROUND Chronic cocaine use is associated with stroke, coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction, resulting in severe impairments or sudden mortality. In the absence of clear cardiovascular symptoms, individuals with cocaine use disorder (iCUD) seeking addiction treatment receive mostly psychotherapy and psychiatric pharmacotherapy, with no attention to vascular disease (i.e., atherosclerosis). Little is known about the pre-clinical signs of cardiovascular risk in iCUD and early signs of vascular disease are undetected in this underserved population. AIM To assess inflammation, plaque burden and plaque composition in iCUD aiming to detect markers of atherosclerosis and vascular disease. METHODS The bilateral carotid arteries were imaged with positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) in iCUD asymptomatic for cardiovascular disease, healthy controls, and individuals with cardiovascular risk. PET with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) evaluated vascular inflammation and 3-D dark-blood MRI assessed plaque burden including wall area and thickness. Drug use and severity of addiction were assessed with standardized instruments. RESULTS The majority of iCUD and controls had carotid FDG-PET signal greater than 1.6 but lower than 3, indicating the presence of mild to moderate inflammation. However, the MRI measure of wall structure was thicker in iCUD as compared to the controls and cardiovascular risk group, indicating greater carotid plaque burden. iCUD had larger wall area as compared to the healthy controls but not as compared to the cardiovascular risk group, indicating structural wall similarities between the non-control study groups. In iCUD, wall area correlated with greater cocaine withdrawal and craving. CONCLUSION These preliminary results show markers of carotid artery disease burden in cardiovascular disease-asymptomatic iCUD. Plasmodium (P.) falciparum is a pathogen that causes severe forms of malaria. Protein interactions have been shown to occur between P. falciparum and human erythrocytes in human blood. The Band 3 Anion Transporter (B3AT) protein is considered the main invasive pathway for the parasite in erythrocytes that causes clinical symptoms for malaria in humans. The interactions between P. falciparum parasites and erythrocytes along this receptor have previously been explored. Short linear motifs (SLIMs) are short linear mediator sequences that involve several biological processes, acting as mediators of protein interactions identifiable by computational tools such as SLiMFinder. For a given protein, the identification of SLIMs allows predicting its interactors. Using the SLIMs approach, protein-protein interaction network analyses between P. falciparum and its human host, were used to identify a tryptophan-rich protein, A5k5E5_PLAVS as an essential interactor of B3AT. To better understand the interaction mechanism, a guided protein-protein docking approach based on SLIM motifs was performed for human B3AT and A5k5E5_PLAVS. The highlights of this important interaction between P. falciparum and its human host have the potential to pave the way to identify new therapeutic candidates.
