Information on the genetic diversity of wild rice species in Sri Lanka is relatively meagre,though it plays a key role in crop improvement programs of cultivated rice(Oryza sativa L.).The present study was carried out to identify the morphological variation pattern of the wild populations of *** in Sri *** populations(P1 to P7)collected from different agro-ecological regions were characterized in a common garden based on nine morphological *** findings revealed a high level of phenotypic variation between populations when compared to within a *** most variable traits were the flag leaf panicle neck length(FLPNL)and flag leaf angle(FLA),whereas the least variable trait was the flag leaf length(FLL).Box plots clearly illustrated the large differentiation of phenotypic traits in the entire distribution of wild rice *** cumulative values of the two principal components,i.e.,FLPNL and FLA,explained 58.7%of the total *** from similar natural habitats clustered *** P7 was adapted to intercept more sunlight by increasing flag leaf width(FLW)and FLA to compete with weeds and other shrubs.P2 and P5 were the most closely related populations representing approximately similar ecological conditions of the dry *** P3 population from the intermediate zone showed a vigorous plant growth with the highest plant height,culm girth and awn length(P<0.05).Knowledge of such morphological diversity would facilitate designing conservation strategies and basic information for the proper utilization of wild resources in rice genetic improvement.

BACKGROUND： Breast arterial calcification is a frequently benign finding on mammography that usually is not reported. An increasing attention has been formed to determine the association between breast arterial calcification （BAC） and Coronary artery disease. In the current study we have aimed to evaluate the relationship between BAC on mammography with coronary CT angiography findings. METHODS： The case control study was carried out on 60 women; 30 CAD and 30 healthy subjects as control, admitted to Golestan hospital radiology department. The mammography was performed in two views; Craniocaudal （CC） view and mediolateral oblique （MLO） and BAC was graded based on the severity and extent of calcifications. Coronary Arterial Calcification （CAC） were scored by Agatston criteria. RESULTS： Overly, 36 patients （60%） were positive for BAC. Twenty six out of them （72%） were CAD. There was a positive significant correlation between BAC and CAD. The sensitivity and specificity of BAC for CAD were 69% and 47%, respectively. Moreover, the severe BAC scores were significantly higher in CAD patients than non-CAD. CONCLUSION： Our findings in line with several previous studies indicated the positive significant association between BAC and CAD occurrence. While the sensitivity and specificity of BAC in diagnosis of CAD is low, suggested the using of BAC just as a CAD risk factor. The relatively low sample size is the major limitation of the study.

The accuracy of diagnostic assays for HER-2/neu in breast cancer is extremely important as HER-2/neu status is essential in tailoring adjuvant and/or neoadjuvant treatment in every patient. FNAC is widely practiced in Egypt in preoperative diagnosis of breast cancer for its low cost and high diagnostic accuracy. Since the determination of HER-2/neu protein expression on cytological preparations was previously found to be unreliable for clinical use, we opted for the assessment of HER-2/neu status in fine needle aspirates using FISH. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the reliability of HER-2/neu status assessment by FISH on fine needle aspirates of breast cancers by comparing the results with IHC and FISH on FFPE tissue sections obtained from corresponding surgically resected specimens. Fine needle aspirates from 40 breast cancer patients with pathologically confirmed breast cancer were included in the study. They were submitted for HER-2/neu evaluation by FISH. After surgery, the corresponding FFPE sections were evaluated for HER-2/neu by FISH and by IHC. FNAs from 11 cases proved to be amplified by FISH, while 29 cases were not amplified. Apart from two cases that showed lack of signals, all specimens evaluated by FISH on the corresponding FFPE sections showed matched results. The Measurement of Agreement between FISH on FNAs and FISH on FFPE sections was 86.7%, while that between FISH on FNAs and IHC was 72.5%. The high concordance rate in the present study between FISH evaluation of HER-2/neu gene amplification on FNAC samples and their corresponding FFPE samples indicate that FISH may be a reliable technique for HER-2/neu assessment on FNAs. Furthermore, FISH on FNAs gave us better hybridization signals than their corresponding FFPE tissue sections. Finally, we also conclude that all score (2+) cases by IHC should be reevaluated by FISH which is crucial for the patient management.

研究热处理对新型Ti20Nb13Zr (TNZ)合金组织、力学性能、耐磨性和人工唾液(AS)体外腐蚀防护性能的影响。采用X射线衍射(XRD)、扫描电镜(SEM)等进行结构和显微组织分析。采用电化学阻抗谱和线性极化电阻技术研究样品在AS中浸泡168 h后的体外耐腐蚀性能。采用线性往复摩擦计对其摩擦特性进行研究。SEM分析结果表明,固溶处理和时效影响α相的尺寸和分布。空冷和时效处理后样品具有最高的显微硬度和宏观硬度,其耐磨性分别比未处理样品高25%和30%。冷却速率对TNZ合金的耐腐蚀性有显著影响。经过处理的样品在AS中浸泡168 h后,腐蚀速率降低50%。经炉冷和时效处理的样品在AS中浸泡168 h后具有最好的耐腐蚀性。在经过处理的样品中,时效样品表现出更优异的力学性能、耐磨性能和体外耐腐蚀性能。

Mathematical models and simulation are considered a powerful tool in engineering practice. Those tools are becoming increasingly used for the improvement of wastewater treatment plants design because the conceptual design is complex and ill-defined. In this paper, three alternatives: 1) complete mix activated sludge without nitrogen removal (CAS);2) complete mix activated sludge with nitrogen removal (CAS-N) and;3) membrane bioreactor (MBR) processes were designed into two steps: first concept design to calculate the size of process units, then second implement modeling and simulation to improve the accuracy of the conceptual design. In brief, the treatment process design has been verified by using the activated sludge model No. 1 (ASM1) in GPS-X (v.7) simulation software. This application helps not only in sizing the treatment units but also in understanding the plant’s capacity. In the same time, it can assist in studying the future expansion works required for increased hydraulic and organic loadings. For this purpose, Tikrit WWTP was selected as a case study. The used model was validated by comparing the designed values of the plant and the modeling data. The verification of the obtained results from both hand calculations and the results of the program showed a good agreement. A significant difference in the volume of secondary treatment was obtained from design calculations, where the CAS without denitrification system was 9244 m3 (aerobic and secondary tanks), CAS with denitrification system was 11,324 m3 (anoxic, aerobic and secondary tanks) and for MBR system was 7468 m3 (anoxic, aerobic and immersed membrane tanks). From the obtained results point of view, it can be concluded that mathematical models can be considered as worthy tools to complement the established wastewater treatment plant design procedures.

Background: Circulating microRNAs are potential biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic impact in various inflammatory and malignant diseases. Aim: Linking inflammation with malignancy, we studied miRNA-21 in sera of hepatitis-C-virus (HCV) and none hepatitis diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients, aiming to identify its differential expression and prognosis in DLBCL with its subtypes;germinal center B-cell (GCB) and activated B-cell-like (ABC) and to evaluate its relation with HCV. Subjects and Methods: MiRNA-21 expression was measured using TaqMan quantitative RT-PCR in sera of 30 newly diagnosed DLBCL patients (HCV positive (n = 10), HCV negative (n = 20)) and 20 controls (HCV positive (n = 10), HCV negative (n = 10)). Results: MiRNA-21 expression was significantly higher in DLBCL patients than in control (p = 0.00). Significant positive correlations between miRNA-21 and LDH, IPI and disease stage were detected (p Conclusion: Our study shows that miRNA-21 is over expressed in our patients with DLBCL, displaying higher levels in ABC than in GCB subtypes. MiRNA-21 is associated with poor response to treatment and survival in DLBCL. MiRNA-21 is a potential marker of necro-inflammation independent of its role in tumorogenesis, showing higher expression in HCV positive DLBCL patients compared to none hepatitis patients.

Background:To examine the baseline morphological characteristics and alterations in intraretinal microvascular abnormalities(IRMAs)in response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF)treatment,documented by optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)in diabetic ***:In this retrospective study,IRMAs were evaluated with multimodal imaging(fundus photography,fluorescein angiography,OCTA)in treatment-naïve diabetic eyes before and after anti-VEGF treatment for diabetic macular edema(DME)and/or proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR)and compared to diabetic control eyes with similar diabetic retinopathy(DR)severity that did not receive anti-VEGF *** morphological characteristics of IRMAs on enface OCTA imaging were graded by masked readers at baseline,then after anti-VEGF therapy in treated eyes or after observation in control *** of interval changes in an IRMA were based on the following parameters:branching,vessel caliber and area of adjacent capillary ***:The treated group included 45 IRMA foci from 15 eyes of 11 patients,while the control group included 27 IRMA foci from 15 eyes of 14 *** anti-VEGF treatment,enface OCTA demonstrated that 14 foci of IRMA(31%)demonstrated regression with normalization of appearance of the capillary bed,20 IRMAs(44%)remained unchanged,six IRMAs(13%)progressed with enlargement or development of new IRMAs and five IRMAs(11%)demonstrated complete obliteration defined as IRMA disappearance with advancing capillary *** the control group,17 IRMA(63%)remained stable,8 IRMAs(29.6%)progressed and 2 experienced total obliteration(7.4%).The difference in rank order between the two groups was statistically significant(p=0.022).Conclusions:In eyes with DR status post anti-VEGF therapy,foci of IRMAs have a variable course demonstrating one of four possible outcomes:regression,stabilit,progression or complete *** contrast,none of the untreated contr
