Energy supply for water electrolysis systems using wind and solar energy to produce hydrogen: a case study of Iran

Due to acute problems caused by fossil fuels that threaten the environment, conducting research on other types of energy carriers that are clean and renewable is of great importance. Since in the past few years hydrogen has been introduced as the future fuel, the aim of this study is to evaluate wind and solar energy potentials in prone areas of Iran by the Weibull distribution function (WDF) and the Angstrom-Prescott (AP) equation for hydrogen production. To this end, the meteorological data of solar radiation and wind speed recorded at 10 m height in the time interval of 3 h in a five-year period have been used. The findings indicate that Manjil and Zahedan with yearly wind and solar energy densities of 6004 (kWh/m2) and 2247 0cWh/m2), respectively, have the greatest amount of energy among the other cities. After examining three different types of commercial wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) systems, it becomes clear that by utilizing one set of Gamesa G47 turbine, 91 kg/d of hydrogen, which provides energy for 91 car/week, can be produced in Manjil and will save about 1347 L of gasoline in the week. Besides, by installing one thousand sets of X21-345 PV systems in Zahedan, 20 kg/d of hydrogen, enough for 20 cars per week, can be generated and 296 L of gasoline can be saved. Finally, the RETScreen software is used to calculate the annual CO2 emission reduction after replacing gasoline with the produced hydrogen.

Ceramic reinforced metal matrix nanocomposites are widely used in aerospace and auto industries due to their enhanced mechanical and physical *** this research,we investigate the mechanical properties of aluminum/Nano-silica composites through experiments and ***/Nanosilica composite samples with different weight percentages of silica nanoparticles are prepared via powder *** this method,Nano-silica and aluminum powders are mixed and compressed in a mold,followed by sintering at high *** tensile testing of the nanocomposite samples shows that adding one percent of Nano-silica causes a considerable increase in mechanical properties of nanocomposite compared to pure aluminum.A computational micromechanical model,based on a representative volume element of aluminum/silica nanocomposite,is developed in a commercial finite element *** model employs an elastoplastic material model along with a ductile damage model for aluminum matrix and linear elastic model for nano-silica *** careful determination of model parameters from the experimental results of pure aluminum samples prepared by powder metallurgy,the proposed computational model has shown satisfactory agreement with *** validated computational model can be used to perform a parametric study to optimize the microstructure of nanocomposite for enhanced mechanical properties.

Cu(BTC),a common type of metal organic framework(MOF),was synthesized through electrochemical route for CO capture and its separation from *** method was employed for optimization of key parameters affecting the synthesis of Cu(BTC).The results indicated that the optimum synthesis conditions with the highest CO selectivity can be obtained using 1 g of ligand,applied voltage of 25 V,synthesis time of 2 h,and electrode length of 3 *** single gas sorption capacity of the synthetized microstructure Cu(BTC)for CO(at 298 K and 1 bar)was a considerable value of 4.40 mmol·*** isosteric heat of adsorption of both gases was calculated by inserting temperature-dependent form of Langmuir isotherm model in the Clausius-Clapeyron *** adsorption of CO/N binary mixture with a concentration ratio of 15/85 vol-%was also studied experimentally and the result was in a good agreement with the predicted value of IAST ***,Cu(BTC)showed no considerable loss in CO adsorption after six sequential *** addition,artificial neural networks(ANNs)were also applied to predict the separation behavior of CO/N mixture by MOFs and the results revealed that ANNs could serve as an appropriate tool to predict the adsorptive selectivity of the binary gas mixture in the absence of experimental data.

The e ects of CO2 and salt type on the interfacial tension(IFT) between crude oil and carbonated brine(CB) have not been fully understood. This study focuses on measuring the dynamic IFT between acidic crude oil with a total acid number of 1.5 mg KOH/g and fully CO2-saturated aqueous solutions consisting of 15,000 ppm of KCl, NaCl, CaCl2 and MgCl2 at 30 °C and a wide range of pressures(500–4000 psi). The results of IFT measurements showed that solvation of CO2 into all the studied aqueous solutions led to an increase in IFT of acidic crude oil(i.e., comparison of IFT of crude oil/CB and crude oil/brine), while no significant e ect was observed for pressure. In contrast, the obtained results of studied salts indicated a positive e ect on the IFT reduction of acidic crude oil/carbonated water(CW)(i.e., comparison of IFT of crude oil/CB and crude oil/CW).

Preconcentration and Determination of Chromium Species Using Octadecyl Silica Membrane Disks and Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

A novel and selective method for the fast determination of trace amounts of chromium species in water samples has been developed. The procedure is based on the selective formation of chromium diethyldithiocarbamate complexes at different pH in the presence of Mn（Ⅱ） as an enhancement agent of chromium signals followed by elution with organic eluents and determination by atomic flame absorption spectrometry. The maximum capacity of the employed disks was found to be （396±3） pg and （376±2） pg for Cr（Ⅲ） and Cr（Ⅵ）, respectively. The detection limit of the proposed method is 49 and 43 ng·L^-1 for Cr（Ⅲ） and Cr（Ⅵ）, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied for determination of chromium species Cr（Ⅲ） and Cr（Ⅵ） in different water samples.

Persian oak(Quercus brantii ***)is a dominant tree species of Zagros forests in a semi-arid area,western ***,the capacity of biomass and carbon stocks of these forests is not well *** selected three types of oak,i.e.,seed-originated oak,coppice oak and mixed(seed-originated and coppice)oak of Zagros forests in Dalab valley,Ilam Province,Iran to survey the capacity of biomass and carbon stocks in *** plots with an area of 1000 m2 were systematically and randomly assigned to each type of *** characteristics of trees,such as diameter at breast height(DBH),height,crown diameter and the number of sprouts in each plot were ***,aboveground biomass(AGB),belowground biomass(BGB),aboveground carbon stock(AGCS)and belowground carbon stock(BGCS)of each tree in plots were calculated using allometric *** litterfall biomass(LFB)and litterfall carbon stock(LFCS)were measured in a quadrat with 1 m×1 m in each ***-way analysis of variance and Duncan's test were performed to detect the differences in biomass and carbon stocks among three types of *** showed that AGB,BGB and BGCS were significantly different among three types of *** highest values of AGB,AGCS,BGB and BGCS in seed-originated oak were 76,043.25,14,725.55,36,737.79 and 7362.77 kg/hm2,***,the highest values of LFB and LFCS in seed-originated oak were 3298.33 and 1520.48 kg/hm2,respectively,which were significantly higher than those of the other two types of *** results imply the significant role of seed-originated oak for the regeneration of Zagros *** conservation strategy of seed-originated oak is an important step in the sustainable management of Zagros forests in Iran.

Deactivation studies of bifunctional Fe-HZSM5 catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch process

A physical mixture of alkali-promoted iron catalyst with binder based on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and an acidic co-catalyst （HZSM5） for syngas conversion to hydrocarbons was studied in a fixed bed micro reactor. Deactivation data were obtained during the synthesis over a 1400 h period. The deactivation studies on iron catalyst showed that this trend followed the phase transformation Fe2.2C （ ε′） → Fe5C2 （χ） → Fe3C （θ）, and the final predominant phase of the catalyst was Fe3C （θ）. Deactivation of zeolite component in bifunctional catalyst may be caused by coking over the zeolitic component, dealumination of zeolite crystals, and migration of alkali promoters from iron catalyst under synthesis conditions. The deactivation rate of iron catalyst was also obtained.

The determining equations for the nonclassical symmetry reductions of nonlinear partial differential equations with arbitrary order can be obtained by requiring the compatibility between the original equations and the invariant surface conditions. The （2＋1）-dimensional shallow water wave equation, Boussinesq equation, and the dispersive wave equations in shallow water serve as examples i11ustrating how compatibility leads quickly and easily to the determining equations for their nonclassical symmetries.

In this context,two different approaches of soil liquefaction evaluation using a soft computing technique based on the worldwide standard penetration test(SPT) databases have been *** expression programming(GEP) as a gray-box modeling approach is used to develop different deterministic models in order to evaluate the occurrence of soil liquefaction in terms of liquefaction field performance indicator(LI) and factor of safety(FS) in logistic regression and classification *** comparative plots illustrate that the classification concept-based models show a better performance than those based on logistic *** the probabilistic approach,a calibrated mapping function is developed in the context of Bayes’ theorem in order to capture the failure probabilities(PL) in the absence of the knowledge of parameter *** results obtained from the proposed probabilistic models,compared to the most well-known models,indicate the robustness of the methodology used in this *** probability models provide a simple,but also efficient decision-making tool in engineering design to quantitatively assess the liquefaction triggering thresholds.
