Inverse modeling approach for determining soil hydraulic properties as affected by application of cattle manure

Numerical codes are extensively used in the modeling of water and solute transport in the vadose *** application of these codes depends on knowledge of soil hydraulic properties such as soil water retention curve and hydraulic *** of cattle manure to the soil can increase soil organic matter(SOM)*** in SOM associated with changes in the structure and adsorption properties of soil and,thus,their hydraulic *** this study the effect of cattle manure on soil hydraulic properties was investigated using inverse *** inverse method was based on Levenberg-Marquart optimization algorithm to estimate hydraulic properties of soil in transient condition using C++programming language along with forward model(HydroGeoSphere)as a numerical *** iron cylinders of 57 cm in inner diameter and about 40 cm in height were filled with Sandy clay loam soil of 30 cm in *** manure applied at 0,30,and 60 Mg/ha at three replications in a completely random *** year after cattle manure application,saturated hydraulic conductivity,porosity,and water retention curve parameters(van Genuchten function,αandβ)were estimated using inverse *** analysis showed that the automatic calibration is sensitive toαmore than the other *** results showed that porosity,saturated hydraulic conductivity,residual water content,αandβincreased significantly(P<0.05)with application 30 and 60 Mg/ha cattle *** there was no significant difference(P<0.05)inβbetween application of 30 and 60 Mg/ha cattle *** study also indicated thatαwas 25.0%and 50.0%higher andβwas 9.6%and 12.6%lower than control treatment in 30 and 60 Mg/ha *** addition,application cattle manure showed positive effect on hydraulic parameters of soil.

Characteristics of settling of dilute suspension of particles with different density at high Reynolds numbers

EFFECT OF POLYANILINE AS A SURFACE MODIFIER OF TiO_2 NANO-PARTICLES ON THE PROPERTIES OF POLYVINYL CHLORIDE/TiO_2 NANOCOMPOSITES

Surface of TiO2 nanoparticles was modified with the in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline. Polyaniline modified TiO2 nanoparticles （PANI-TiO2） were characterized with the FT-IR, XRD, SEM and TEM techniques. Results confirmed that PANI was grafted successfully on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles, therefore agglomeration of nanoparticles decreased dramatically. Polyvinyl chloride nanocomposites filled with 1 wt%-5 wt% of PANI-TiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared via the solution blending method. PVC nanocomposites were analyzed with FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TG/DTA, DSC and tensile test techniques. Effect of PANI as surface modifier of nanoparticles was discussed according to the final properties of PVC nanocomposites. Results demonstrated that deposition of PANI on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles improved the interfacial adhesion between the constituents of nanocomposites, which resulted in better dispersion of nanoparticles in the PVC matrix. Also PVC/PANI-TiO2 nanocomposites showed higher thennal resistance, tensile strength and Young＇s modulus compared to those of unfilled PVC and PVC/TiO2 nanocomposites.

A sensitivity analysis and multi-objective optimization to enhance ethylene production by oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane in a membrane-assisted reactor

Owing to the importance of process intensification in the natural gas associated processes, the present contribution aims to investigate the production of an important natural gas downstream product in an improved ***, a membrane-assisted reactor for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane is presented. The presented system includes a membrane for axial oxygen dosing into the reaction side. Such a strategy would lead to optimum oxygen distribution along the reactor length and prevention of hot spot formation as well. A feasibility study is conducted by developing a validated mathematical model composed of mass and energy balance equations. The effects of various operating variables are investigated by a rigorous sensitivity ***, by applying the genetic algorithm, a multi-objective optimization procedure is implemented to obtain the optimum operating condition. Considerable increase in the ethane conversion and ethylene yield are the advancements of membrane-assisted oxidative dehydrogenation reactor working under the optimum *** than 30% increase in the ethane conversion is obtained. Furthermore, the ethylene yield is enhanced up to 0.45.

An ensemble method for data stream classification in the presence of concept drift

One recent area of interest in computer science is data stream management and processing. By ‘data stream', we refer to continuous and rapidly generated packages of data. Specific features of data streams are immense volume, high production rate, limited data processing time, and data concept drift; these features differentiate the data stream from standard types of data. An issue for the data stream is classification of input data. A novel ensemble classifier is proposed in this paper. The classifier uses base classifiers of two weighting functions under different data input conditions. In addition, a new method is used to determine drift, which emphasizes the precision of the algorithm. Another characteristic of the proposed method is removal of different numbers of the base classifiers based on their quality. Implementation of a weighting mechanism to the base classifiers at the decision-making stage is another advantage of the algorithm. This facilitates adaptability when drifts take place, which leads to classifiers with higher efficiency. Furthermore, the proposed method is tested on a set of standard data and the results confirm higher accuracy compared to available ensemble classifiers and single classifiers. In addition, in some cases the proposed classifier is faster and needs less storage space.

An intelligent security systems engineering approach is used to analyze fire and explosive critical incidents, a growing concern in urban communities. A feed-forward back-propagation neural network models the damages arising from these critical incidents. The overall goal is to promote fire safety and sustainable security. The intelligent security systems engineering prediction model uses a fully connected multilayer neural network, and considers a number of factors related to the fire or explosive incident including the type of property affected, the time of day, and the ignition source. The network was trained on a large number of critical incident records reported in Toronto, Canada between 2000 and 2006. Our intelligent security systems engineering approach can help emergency responders by improving cr^tical incident analysis, sustainable security, and fire risk management.

The current paper deals with synchronization problem among chaotic nonlinear fractional order systems considering input saturation *** develop the idea,at first a generalized sector condition and a memory-less nonlinear function are employed to deal with the saturation *** a new state feedback controller is designed to achieve synchronization in master-slave chaotic fractional order nonlinear systems with input *** the state feedback controller,the asymptotic stability of whole dynamic error model between master and slave is *** stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed using Lyapunov theory and sufficient stability conditions are formulated in terms of caputo fractional derivative of a quadratic Lyapunov function and Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMI).Finally,to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme,some simulation results are employed to show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Simulation of the deformable lateral boundaries in biaxial test using DEM

Applying the discrete element method(DEM)in soil mechanics can provide abundant information at the particle-scale and facilitates illustration of the macro-mechanical behaviour of soils based on the inter-particle *** triaxial test is one of the most common laboratory methods to study the macro-mechanical behaviour of particulate materials such as ***,many problems in geotechnical design can be assumed and simplified as a plane strain *** a biaxial test can be conducted to reproduce the macro-mechanical behaviour of soil,where the sample is enclosed by two horizontal rigid platens and a vertical latex membrane,which is a deformable continuous element and allows the enclosed specimen to deform freely while maintaining confining stress during *** paper presents an algorithm to represent physical and mechanical characteristics of latex membrane in the 2D DEM simulation of biaxial test using the PFC^(2D) *** investigate the impact of the lateral boundary conditions on the micro-macro mechanical behaviours of soil samples,two sets of DEM biaxial tests are conducted,*** rigid and deformable lateral boundary *** DEM modeling results indicate that the lateral boundary conditions have a significant effect on the micro-scale fabric properties,thickness and inclination of the shear *** comparison between these two simulations also demonstrates that the lateral boundary conditions play a major role in the peak and post-peak stress-strain behaviours as well as the dilation and critical state behaviours of granular soils.

Paleoseismological trenching and seismic hazard assessment of the Bozkurt Segment of the Maymundağı Fault, Acıgöl Graben, SW Türkiye

The Acıgöl Graben in SW Turkey,ca.50-55 km in length and 11-15 km in width,formed during the Miocene to Quaternary *** graben is bounded by active normal faults of MaymundağıFault(MF)to the northwest and the GemişFault Zone(GFZ)to the southeast that have triggered significant earthquakes,causing considerable *** study focuses on the Bozkurt segment of the MF,which caused a damaging earthquake(Mw 6.0)in 2019 and another significant earthquake in 1886 during historical times.A paleoseismological trench survey along the Bozkurt segment revealed at least two faulting events,with the last event producing a vertical displacement of 0.25 *** Optical Stimulated Luminescence(OSL)dating indicates that the last earthquake occurred 3.13±0.33 ka BP,while the penultimate earthquake occurred 4.0±0.72 ka *** dates correspond to a long-term slip rate of approximately 0.36±0.11 mm/a and a mean recurrence interval of 2.08 ka,short-term slip rate 0.78±0.16 mm/a and recurrence interval of 0.96 ka,and compatible with the mean sedimentation rate of 0.26 mm/a,calculated from drill logs in Acıgöl *** the 6 km length of the Bozkurt segment and its vertical displacement of 0.25 m in the last event,this segment has the potential to generate earthquakes ranging from 5.6 to 5.9 ***-term slip rates derived from geomorphological data are 0.56 mm/year to the north and 0.64 mm/a to the south of the graben,indicating higher subsidence on the southern *** rates are in accordance with the slip rates calculated from the paleoseismological trench survey and sedimentation rate from the *** indications show that the Bozkurt segment is an active Holocene fault with relatively long recurrence intervals and low-slip ***,the paleoseismological studies in combination with geomorphological data are important tool to assess seismic hazards and to define the characteristics of individual fault segments.
