OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of Persian shallot extract on the serum markers and blood pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome(MetS). METHODS: Fifty patients with Met S diagnosis were randomly assigned to the intervention(Persian shallot extract) and the control(placebo) group. Both groups received treatment for three months. Before the study and at the end of the study, 5 mL peripheral blood was taken from each patient. The measured factors included total antioxidant capacity(TAC), superoxide dismutase enzyme(SOD), malondialdehyde, oxidized low-density lipoprotein(Ox-LDL), apolipoprotein H(Apo-H), fasting blood glucose(FBS), total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein(HDL), LDL, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. RESULTS: At baseline, the evaluated parameters were not significantly different between the intervention and control groups. At the end of the study, the mean serum levels of malondialdehyde and ox-LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean FBS, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL were significantly lower in the intervention group. The mean TAC and HDL were significantly higher in the intervention group(P < 0.05). Moreover, the intervention group significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure. No other significant association was observed. CONCLUSION: Persian shallot extract has several beneficial effects in Met S patients, including optimizing oxidative balance, reducing blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and blood lipid profile.

Modeling the Facies of Reservoir Using Seismic Data with Missing Attributes by Dissimilarity Based Classification

Using seismic attributes as features for classification in feature space, in various aims such as seismic facies analysis, is conventional for the purpose of seismic interpretation. But sometimes seismic data may have no attributes or it is hard to define a small and relevant set of attributes in some applica- tions. Therefore, employing techniques that perform facies modeling without using attributes is neces- sary. In this paper we present a new method for facies modeling of seismic data with missing attributes that called dissimilarity based classification. In this method, classification is based on dissimilarities and facies modeling will be done in dissimilarity space. In this space dissimilarities consider as new features instead of real features. A support vector machine as a powerful classifier was employed in both feature space （feature-based） and dissimilarity space （feature-less） for facies analysis. The proposed feature-less and feature-based classification is applied on a real seismic data from an Iranian oil field. Facies model- ing using seismic attributes provide better results, but the feature-less classification outcome is also satis- factory and the facies correlation is acceptable. Indeed, the power of attributes to discriminate different facies causes to that facies analysis using attributes provide more reliable results comparing to feature- less facies analysis.

Effects of intermediate Ni layer on mechanical properties of Al–Cu layered composites fabricated through cold roll bonding

Layered composites have attracted considerable interest in the recent literature on metal composites. Their mechanical properties depend on the quality of the bonding provided by the intermediate layers. In this study, we analyzed the mechanical properties and bond strengths provided by the nickel layer with respect to its thickness and nature(either powder or coating). The results suggest that bond strength decreases with an increase in the content of nickel powder. At 0.3 vol% of nickel coating, we found the nature of nickel to be less efficient in terms of bond strength. A different picture arose when the content of nickel was increased and the bond strength increased in nickel coated samples. In addition, the results demonstrate that mechanical properties such as bend strength are strongly dependent on bond strength.

Gamma-ray shielding study of light to heavyweight concretes using MCNP-4C code

In this work, linear and mass attenuation coefficients, half and tenth-value layers, effective atomic number and electron density of different types of concretes were determined at 316.51, 468.07, 511, 662, 1173 and 1332 keV using MCNP-4C code and Win XCom programs. The MCNP-4C and Win XCom results agreed well with each other, with differences of \±1.9%. The results agreed with available experimental data, too, with differences of \±6%.The MCNP-4C results showed better agreement with the experimental data than the Win XCom results. Also, it was found that the effective electron density of studied concretes varies in the range of(2.83–3.2) 9 10^(23)electron/g.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins,which are the most abundant macromolecules in living *** the standpoint of the photon interaction cross sections of amino acids,the mass attenuation coefficients,half and tenth value layers,mean free path,effective atomic and electronic cross sections,effective atomic number,and effective electron density of fifteen essential amino acids have been determined for 133Ba,137Cs,and 60Co gamma-ray *** MCNP-4C code and the XCOM program have been used to calculate these *** results have been compared to the available experimental and theoretical *** theoretical results agreed with the experimental data,with RD values of ≤±7%.In the energy region of 81-1332.5 keV,it was found that the μm,σa,and revalues of the amino acids decreased as the photon energy increased,and the increasing density of amino acids had no steady effect on these ***,results demonstrated that the HVL,TVL,and MFP values increased with the increase in photon *** μm,σa,and Zeff values of aspartic acid were the highest among those of all amino acids,and they were the lowest for *** Zeff value of each sample containing H,C,N,and O atoms was nearly constant in the studied energy *** Neffvalues of the studied amino acids varied in the range of 3.14×10^23-3.44×10^23 electron/***,the Neffvalues were approximately independent of the amino acid type in this energy region.

First Principles Study on Encapsulation of Alkali Metals into ZnO Nanocage

Encapsulation of alkali metals （Li, Na, K, and Rb） into Zn12O12 nanocage has been inves- tigated using density functional theory. Encapsulation of Li and Na atoms is found to be thermodynamically favorable at 298 K and 100 kPa, with negative Gibbs free energy change AG of about -130.12 and -68.43 kJ/mol, respectively. By increasing the size of encapsu- lated atom the process become less favorable so that in the cases of K and Rb encapsulations the AG values are positive. The results indicate that the LUMO, Fermi level, and specially HOMO of the cluster are shifted to higher energies so that the HOMO-LUMO gap of the cluster is significantly narrowed in all the cases. After encapsulation of the alkali metals the work function of cluster is decreased due to the shift of the Fermi level to higher energies. Therefore, the emitted electron current density from the Zn12O12 cluster will be increased.

Interaction of O2 molecule and a zigzag aluminum nitride nanotube（AlNNT） was studied based on the density functional *** O2 molecule is adsorbed on the surface of AlNNT with the adsorption energies in the range of 11.0 to 12.1 kJ/*** structure of the AlNNT remains intact in the presence of oxygen molecule while its electronic structure dramatically changes so that its HOMO（or SOMO）-LUMO gap is approximately reduced to half of its original *** suggests that the AlNNT may be used as a gas sensor for the O2 detection.

Khojir national park is one of the oldest protected areas in Iran that is greatly considerable in terms of biodiversity and ecological ***(Pistacia atlantica Desf.) communities,which create some woodland in this park,are unique because they grow tolerantly in a dry land,in the vicinity of Tehran *** research is about some ecological properties of Pistachio *** dominant community of the area is Pistacia-Amygdalus *** density of Pistacia is 86 per *** density of Pistachio trees was greater in the higher elevation than in the lower *** addition,the collar diameter and the height of trees in the higher class were *** average density of Pistacia in plots in northern slopes was significantly more than southern slopes(at 5% level),but the average collar diameter of them were more on the southern *** distribution,diameter and height of pistachio trees were not significantly related to the percentage of *** the soil variables,the saturated water percentage(SP),N(total nitrogen) and texture of soil were effective factors which played significant role in ordination of plots containing *** the important role of *** forest stands in soil and water conservation in Iran,we should attach more importance to their protection and conservation,as well as activities such as road and dam construction,and garden establishment in such unique ecosystems.

Pore size analysis plays a pivotal role in unraveling reservoir behavior and its intricate relationship with confined *** methods for predicting pore size distribution(PSD),relying on drilling cores or thin sections,face limitations associated with depth *** this study,we introduce an innovative framework that leverages nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)log data,encompassing clay-bound water(CBW),bound volume irreducible(BVI),and free fluid volume(FFV),to determine three PSDs(micropores,mesopores,and macropores).Moreover,we establish a robust pore size classification(PSC)system utilizing ternary plots,derived from the *** the three studied wells,NMR log data is exclusive to one well(well-A),while conventional well logs are accessible for all three wells(well-A,well-B,and well-C).This distinction enables PSD predictions for the remaining two wells(B and C).To prognosticate NMR outputs(CBW,BVI,FFV)for these wells,a two-step deep learning(DL)algorithm is ***,three feature selection algorithms(f-classif,f-regression,and mutual-info-regression)identify the conventional well logs most correlated to NMR outputs in *** three feature selection algorithms utilize statistical *** algorithms are utilized to systematically identify and optimize pertinent input features,thereby augmenting model interpretability and predictive efficacy within intricate data-driven ***,all three feature selection algorithms introduced the number of 4 logs as the most optimal number of inputs to the DL algorithm with different combinations of logs for each of the three desired ***,the CUDA Deep Neural Network Long Short-Term Memory algorithm(CUDNNLSTM),belonging to the category of DL algorithms and harnessing the computational power of GPUs,is employed for the prediction of CBW,BVI,and FFV *** prediction leverages the optimal logs identified in the preceding *** of NMR outputs was done
